I wish it remained open longer into the fall, even if water was not available

We have been camping at Stony Point for the past 5 years as we love the location of the campground. Each year the maintenance of the grounds gets worse and worse. The road into the campground is tarred but has many pot holes and low hanging branches that we have to dodge to prevent damage to our RV. Many trees fall on the road as well so we started bringing our chainsaw along. Even widow maker trees are abundant along this road in and have not been tended to. The grounds of the campground are minimally mowed and is more like a primitive campground than what it looked like when we first started coming. The staff are not friendly or welcoming the past couple of years. In fact, it feels as though they really dont want campers there. We will most likely not be coming back unless major improvements are made. They actually are planning to raise their rates for next season which seems crazy to us when the campground is deteriorating.

Site 19 is right on the extremely busy beach. People, unattended small children, and loose dogs came through our site, to and from the beach at all hours of the day and night. It also smelled of dog poop at our site. It was very unenjoyable. We left a day early. The park was pretty and appeared well kept. We didnt go into the bathrooms so Im unable to comment on those.

Great sites, lots of shade, bathhouse nice, pit toilets close to most sites. Would like to see campfire wood available again. Reasonable rates

Nice roomy campsite, showers and bathrooms were good, lots of hot water but could a bit of clean up, lots of dead insects inside and out.

The site was nice, close to bathrooms. However, the fish flies were really bad. I could manage the living ones, but all the dead ones around and in the bathrooms were awful. Also, the interior bathroom lights did not work at night. The beach was not very nice. We left a day early.

My family and I have been staying at Stony Point for over 20 years and we were pretty sad to see the overall condition of the campground. The camping and common areas were not mowed as they have been in the past. The bathrooms were very, very dirty and there was not warm water for showers much less hot water. There was a sign on the doors of the showers directing users to turn on multiple showers to get the hot water to work. Not only did that not work it is a huge waste of water.Based on the location of this campground we will continue to come for a couple of more years to see if it improves.

I understand that you cannot do anything about bugs and weather. I think it would have helped if the grass was cut around the sites. We were there for two weeks and the grass was never cut around our camper. Also in between the campers was knee-high. I think that would have helped the situation for us. Thanks Chuck Martin

Arrived to find someone in my campsite, and when I called the Recreation.gov phone number, there was a 2+ hour waiting period to talk to customer service. Tried calling the National Forest, but it was a Saturday and they were closed. There were no signs displaying If a camp host was present, or where a host was located within the campground. So that isn't a reflection on Stoney Point, but rather the reservation process in general. There is really no timely recourse for paying customers if there are holdover tenants in the campground. I finally proceeded to confront the holdover occupants and showed them my reservation, and thankfully they agreed to relocate to a different site. Campsite was clean, 30A power worked fine. Zero hot water in showers.... Note on the wall said to turn on multiple showers to activate the hot water system. I turned on 6 showers simultaneously, but still got no hot water for a shower. LOTS of mosquitos. Several low-lying bog/swamp areas in and around the campground so mosquitos were pretty thick. Stiff breeze coming off the lake helps keep them down, but at night it gets pretty buggy. Mayfly hatch was also happening, so bugs bugs everywhere. So the only real "operational" complaint I have is 1) Cold showers and 2) No customer service to reach out to in the event of a problem. Otherwise a nice campground with a LOT of bugs when I visited in June.

I have stayed at Stony Point from the early 1980's thru early 2000's. It was by far my favorite campground.... That changed this year. The areas normally mowed were all grown over, NO FIREWOOD!!! I had to drive back towards Walker to find firewood.... Even though your website states, you cannot bring firewood in.... In the handicap bathroom, no toilet paper for 5 mornings.... Pretty dissapointed.

Great campground! My dad started our family tradition camping at Stony point on Leech Lake. He recently passed this year before our camping trip. We plan to continue our camping tradition in honor of him. Stony point brought him so much joy.

It was an OK trip. The grass was a little long for my liking. The showers needed to be cleaned as there were bugs and cobwebs all over. In order to get hot water you have to go around and turn all the showers on which is not ideal. There were no camp hosts at the time of our trip. Not the worst place I have been to, but we have been going here for 20+ years and the last 5 years or so the upkeep has been going downhill. I still love the sites as they are big sites and somewhat private. Rates are very good. We will be going back because its a tradition to go there, I just hope the upkeep does not keep declining.

Nice space and view of the lake. Park is rustic with just basic maintenance. Good access to the boat launch and harbors for your boat.

Most all sites are well spaced and several are wooded. Nice boat access. Bathrooms are good. New plumbing and electrical upgrades are scheduled for next year.

Nice US Forest Campground. Older park but clean. Stayed in site #5 which in photo show big shade tree but it has since been cut down so not as much shade. In heavy rain a puddle forms left of drive. Site #3 better

Great, quiet campground. Well shaded for the most part with mature trees. The only issue was that while we were there the hot water heater for the showers wasn't working, but they were actively working on fixing it while we were there. We also didn't see any firewood available for purchase at the campground and had to drive 15 minutes away to get some.

Sad to see that the camping areas havent been keep up. Keeping the ground level for campers to park and they quit mowing the whole campground. They only mow a small area around each site. That makes no area to let kids play. Lots of brush growing up on trails and between sites. Wish it was like it used to be.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
