This campground used to be a beautiful and relaxing place with the grass mowed and brush and limbs kept in check. The breezes from the lake kept the biting insects at a minimum, now with a few narrow trails poorly mowed and the brush and small trees taking over the campground the biting flies and mosquitoes were horrendous. My family used to camp here often in the 80's, 90's and early 2000"s and always enjoyed our time here, not so much since the forestry service has not been taking care of it like they used to. I talked to a few campers during our time here and they were as disappointed as we were.

This campground has the potential to be a jewel in the Chippewa National Forest crown. Unfortunately the powers that be have decided that a more natural look was to their presence. The campground is left in a natural state with grass almost 3 feet tall, except right where you pitch your tent or park your camper. There are some paths mowed to the out house and picnic area. The rest of the campground is waste deep grass , attracting mosquitoes and ticks. It is unsightly at best. I spoke with several forest service employees and all exclaimed the same dismay. There was no campground host, apparently it is tough to keep one there. I sure wish they would do something about it. I love to recommend it to other people, but not in its current condition.

Nice, clean campground. Fish were caught off the fishing pier. It's too bad it rain both days I was there. (Can't hold that against the campground)

Beginning week of July was the peak for mosquitos. Be sure to walk on the Cass Lake trail to see the small but pleasant sandy beach.

They have stopped mowing the grass out there, as we were told by the park rangers. The mosquitos were so bad, we had to pack up and leave. This was our third summer in a row camping here and unfortunately, probably our last, unless they start mowing again.

Place is not kept up like it use to be. Long grass which leads to many more bugs and snakes. Also stray dogs coming in and destroying our campsite. Don’t recommend staying here. Sure miss how it side to be kept up.

Campground not completely mowed.

I’m not understanding why the entire place isn’t being mowed anymore? Driving up, it doesn’t have the appeal factor it used to and the long grass makes for more mosquitoes, bugs and snakes.

Always enjoy this camp ground. BUT...this year the upkeep of the grounds is terrible...as in minimum MOWING !!! Is the Gov. to cheap to alot fuel for mowing or campground host too lazy. Do better...2 out of 5 stars

Tons of mosquitoes in the morning and evening. Tons of biting flies during the middle of the day. Plentiful ticks in the grass. No fish caught from the dock. Shells that cut my kids' feet at the beach. Cursed camping site. 0/5

Had a great time at this campground. We had campsite number 4. This campsite had lots of space and a little path right to the river. We brought our kayaks and paddled around the camp area and the dam. The dam is pretty and is a fun thing to do at the campground. The only complaint I have is that one of the campsites decided to cut down a tree in the campsite at 8:00am! Definitely not cool, there is a gas station about 7 min away that sells dnr approved wood. Otherwise I had a great time. Would definitely go again!

Spacious sites and beautiful beach. Nice fishing peer with a variety of fish species and the potential for a lunker.

Cell service wasn't as good as anticipated, but if you walk around the quaint and intimate park then you'll find service. Very well maintained, clean bathrooms, and private camping areas with great beach/lake access!

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
