This was a great campground with so much privacy! We were so happy with this 2-night stop on our way to the UP! So neat that each campsite has access to the lake and a small boat launch for kayaks, canoes, etc. The lake is so peaceful and gave me Boundary Water vibes. Highly recommend! We also booked pretty last minute and still found openings which was wonderful.

Day Lake is a beautiful campground, with large campsite and lots of trees. We camped in tents and enjoyed the peaceful environment, as well as the elk bugling in the middle of the night. The nearby picnic/beach area is a great spot for grilling hamburgers. Don't let the tanins that color the water fool you, the beach is great for swimming, with shallow entry and then deeper water further out. It is also an easy drive to lots of hiking.

Pit toilets clean with no odor. Campsites very nice!FYI: Campers are destroying Birch Trees due to their hacking of the trees with hatchets / axes. Peeling their bark off. Maybe better monitoring of campers actions or signs?# Confusion as to whether the Day Lake Beach and large picnic area is included in the camping fee?? Not talking about the beach within the campground. (Federal area off highway outside of Clam Lake). We have had Federal Park Employees tell us, that area is included in the camping fee, others telling us an additional $5.00 fee is required on top of the camping fee. What is the requirement???

The campground is quite large with spacious sites that begin to feel claustrophobic after a few days. The forest is so dense you can't see out of your site and the sun can't be seen through the canopy. I reserved for two weeks but only spent a total of three days because of this. The area is beautiful and offers a lot of recreation but if you aren't looking to actually be out of your campsite daily you may begin to feel penned in. I did.

Our stay was excellent! Apart from having a few mosquitos around due to wet conditions, the campsites were great! For our location in the loop, we placed ourselves furthest from the well pump and outhouse, but that is on us. The outhouse was clean and stocked with paper, the pump water was nice and cold, and....due to some trees needing to be taken down during the winter and prep months, there was ample wood for burning. The wood was obviously a little wet so a good hot flame was not attainable, but nonetheless, there was wood available at that time. I would not anticipate that being the case, though as the wood will get consumed as the year goes on and is not a guarantee. We just happened to be there at a time the forest service had cleaned up a few trees. The road in was in excellent condition! Great stay!!

Campsites are generally small but secluded and quiet. The lake is also quiet with very few people using it while we were there. Good lake for paddling but not good for power boats.

Our only problem was the mosquitoes. But that is not the campgrounds fault. That's mother nature...very nice campground very well kept..

Our sites were clean, bathroom was kept clean and it was nice and peaceful. Adding a dump station would be great as there is none.

The entire Campground was very well-kept the latrines in the area that I camped were the cleanest I have ever experienced. The campground host was very friendly and helpful. The area Lakes were very accessible and signage made things easy to find. One of my all-time favorite places.

Campsites were spacious and private. Campground host was superb. Sites are all dirt. All close to the lake. Bring plenty of mosquito spray though. Bathrooms were very clean. Only one mile from a well stocked store. We really enjoyed our stay here.

This was our 35th year of the Schmidt Men's Musky fishing trip. 30 of the 35 years have been here at Day Lake. In fact, we have now renamed our group as the "Day Lake Musky Busters", complete with t-shirts, caps, and can coolers. For the most part the Park Rangers were very hospitable. We even got to know some of them on a first name basis. The current camp host is also very friendly, in fact we camped in the 3 adjoining camp sites next to his for the past 2 years. This year we had 3 young men from the 3rd generation of our family to attend our outing. I am the oldest of the group at 72 and the youngest was 10. Over the years our group has grown from 6 original members to our largest group of 22 about 10 years ago, averaging 12 to 15 per year. The campsites are pretty good shape- a few trees down this year. The only recommendation I would make is to bring back some of the docks as it becomes inceasingly more difficult for an old man like me to get in and out of the boats.

It was a great time. We where there after the weekend. Very quiet. Loved it. Their needs to be a dock at Musky Bay. I have requested this every year since you removed the one that was there. I'm not getting any younger it would make boat access much easier. Please consider my request.

The site was excellent, very private, level, well maintained, and large enough. Would love having a dump site in that immediate area. That would make it one of our go to places many times.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
