Poplar Grove has great level campsites with a nice field in the middle. Beautiful setting. Perfect for scout groups (younger or older, boy or girl). Latrines were in good condition. The only annoyance was that leaving 2 cars per campsite requires some shuttling to and from the parking area (1.2 miles away). We will definitely return.

Plenty of shade, lots of room, flat field for games, perfect fire ring with log seating. The girls said, "These are the nicest pit toilets I've ever seen!" Five stars.

Our Troop encountered access issues blocking the road to the youth group campsite, and the park staff response was disappointing.

Excellent campsite. I suggest groups take some time to explore the many trails.

Great campground with nice tent sites, pavilion, firewood and potable water. Good stopping point for youth groups hiking catoctin national trail.

Campsite was level with a shelter nearby. The toilet facilities were clean and stocked. Having the water on was a surprise bonus.

It’s always a pleasure bringing our scout troop camping at Poplar Grove. Clean campsites & clean facilities.

The reservation system does not mention this fact... In the winter time, no water is available. You need to pack in your own water. Outside of that, it was a good weekend. Plenty of firewood, good campsites, and good latrines.

We had a large group of children and the Rangers were able to put together a program just for our group. The tenting area is massive — plenty of space for our group of 32. The fire pit at C was a little muddy but at A was in great shape. The woodshed is a nice touch too.

It's a very private campground since it's for youth groups only. It's laid out nicely with 2 bath houses, pavillion, fire pit, 3 seperate tent camping areas, a wood shed and plenty of space.

The stay at camp went fine; however, I'm a bit bothered by the tenor of the park ranger who approached us shortly after our arrival - he very quickly used the term "violations" regarding our presence at the site. We had apparently put our tents up where they weren't allowed; however, the permitted locations were not entirely clear from the graphic on the board at the site, and another group who had already been at the same site had made the same mistake. I'd like to ask that the park personnel be a bit more thoughtful with their language, and I would also suggest that if 2 groups independently made the same mistake, then the posted rules aren't clear enough - it would be quite simple and helpful to say "Do not pitch tents on the grass."

Poplar Grove Youth Camping site was a fun and challenging campout during winter. It is about 1 mile away from parking during the winter when the road is closed, makes this a hike in event. The campsite was well setup and maintained by the park service with plenty of firewood and tent area for the entire crew. Wonderful event, very remote and quite.

Our troop had 2 of the campsites, one for the younger scouts and one for the crews that hiked in. We have come to truly enjoy this site as it provides a great natural setting and opportunity to teach the scouts many of the skills needed. Well kept.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
