Hoyer Campground, Greer, AZ

Hoyer Campground is located in the Springerville Ranger District of the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests (3 hrs 36 min east of Apache Junction, AZ) with an elevation of 8,283 feet. There are a total of 90 campsites. The campground is normally open from the beginning of May to the end of October. 80 sites can accommodate RVs between 30 and 45 feet. All sites are currently reservable. There is a fee of $30.00 per night.

The campground deserves five stars, but thanks to inconsiderate campers who pulled into the campsite next to ours the day before we left, our experience went downhill fast. As we were enjoying a relaxing happy hour, the couple set up their generator about 20 feet from our camper; actually closer to OUR campsite than their own. When the cigarette smoke began wafting in our direction, we had to grab our dog and go inside our camper for the rest of the night. Same situation in the morning. They turned on the generator at 7 a.m. and it was still running when we left at 10:45. Despite the discourteous campers on this trip, we will be back. The staff at Hoyer campground is friendly and helpful. The facilities and campground are very clean. I highly recommend it, and I believe most people who enjoy camping life are mindful of their surroundings. Five stars for the staff, one star for the neighbors!

Spot was level, open, and slightly shady. Did receive mostly afternoon sunlight which wasnt horrible with the awning extended. Camp hosts are always kind and welcoming. Showers were always clean and inviting even though only 4 of 8 available.

Our campsite 47 was beautiful, clean and quiet. Nice flat ground. Solid parking, heavy metal picnic table, nice fire ring and across the road from the bathrooms and water spigot. The whole campground is very clean and hosted by very nice people. They sell bundles of fire wood for $10. We will definitely be returning. Wifi in our area was basically non existent for T-Mobile and AT&T but we wanted to disconnect anyway. The campground is across the main road from Greer Lakes and close to the center of Greer where there is a small general store that is packed with almost anything you might need and some local restaurants.

The camp hosts that greeted us were super helpful. They helped with a campsite item that was much needed. Very friendly folks this year as our family held our annual trip to Hoyer.

Beautiful campground! Clean and tidy. Quiet. Super great showers. My only complaint is that many of the fire rings were in unusable locations- either on a hill or too close to the camper spot.

Many camp sites are sloped and pitched in all directions. Also, most sites have a steep downward slope off the parking pad down to the picnic table - VERY difficult and dangerous for anyone with mobility issues. Campers bathing, washing dishes, and cleaning fish at common water spigots.Hosts don't speak to campers about controlling dogs or proper use of the shared water sources.

Almost no phone signal. Shower, portable water, toilet, RV dump station all available and included in the cost. A creek 5 min nearby with water running with a long trail full of wild flower. Good place to relax.

The campground staff does a great job keeping the grounds and bathrooms clean and I appreciate them. However, I have seen this before. They close down half the shower facilities in order to minimize the cleaning. 4 of the 8 showers were closed on a holiday weekend which lead to backups and wait times. I can see this perhaps on a non-holiday weekend. But this was the 4th of July so you know the campground will be full. 4 showers had "Closed for maintenance" on them. I find that hard to believe.

Ive been coming to Hoyer since I was 14, but then after Covid I kinda forgot about it. It was so nice to go back and share it with my partner. Will definitely be coming back soon!
