Beautiful area!!! Several hikes of varying length and difficulty. Clean lakes to swim, play or fish in. Beautiful white granite, and deep blue skies! ---Also---Very little cell phone reception in the area. Only a random few spots- if you're lucky enough to find them. The cabin has no phone/web access- (which is fine, so long as you don't need to contact anyone.) Cabin itself was...rustic, charming, cozy. Didn't like the yellowjacket nest over the front door, the abundant flies or the pack rat in the wall. Nobody got stung, but seems a matter of time. The flies were annoying and disgusting, as was the rat, who was loudly chewing the walls at 4 am. It would be hard to keep such an old building free of all wildlife. Also, found out they totally rely on renters to clean everything! Not great-1- We paid lots in rent, so expected a service would clean some. -2- I squirm a little realizing the floors, shower, toilet, counters don't get properly cleaned. Others in my group will not return. So- be aware this is a cool old cabin that's been painted and updated some, but that it still has some annoying challenges.

This place is magical enough that I hesitate to write a review, as I don't want more people to know about it:)

Certainly rustic and showing its age, but still a unique historic building and a good home base for adventures in the area. It's nice to be so close to the lake and tons of hiking/skiing, and having a flush toilet and hot water is even better! Coffee pot, microwave, BBQ, and even a crockpot round out the well stocked kitchen (bring your own fancy drinkware if so inclined). Beds are plentiful but hard, and rooms are definitely not soundproofed but more spacious than expected. An armchair or second couch (only a futon in living space) wouldn't go amiss, but wrought-iron details on fireplace and curtains rods are a nice touch. Don't really have a view of the lake through the trees and parking areas can get quite busy, but still a beautiful location and very quiet at night. We'd definitely consider renting again! Bonus: the food and handcrafted cocktails at the relaxed atmosphere Starbottle were surprisingly good and everyone was very friendly!

I had another area cancel one of my reservations because the campground still had snow, and that makes sense. However, this campground did not notify me there was still snow. Although you could drive on the roads, the access into the cabin was still blocked. We did manage to slog our way up to the cabin from the road only to find that the previous occupants had not cleaned when they left the cabin. There were dishes in the drying rack, dirty utensils in the sink, open containers on the cabinet. Did not look like the carpet had been vacuumed, we started cleaning for us and then decided, cleaning after others was no way to start a vacation. So we packed back up and made it out through the snow again and left.

I called ahead of time to ask if I would need chains or 4wd and was told the road is always kept clear. I got 4 miles away and was not able to get through due to snow. I never made it to the cabin and my vacation was ruined.

The cabin is beautiful. We were so happy to have stayed at the Anthony Lakes guard station. We were there at the end of May and arrived to a frozen lake and a few inches of snow on the ground. While we would have loved to explore the immediate area more, we were unable to travel too far from the cabin as we were with our 8 year old. We did take a day and traveled to Baker City and went to the Oregon Trail interpretive center and that was a great experience for the whole family. The Cabin is heated with the gas fireplace which makes for a great ambiance for the main room. The beds in the cabin are very very firm, so side sleepers be prepared. All the amenities were exactly as presented and would highly recommend anyone to stay at this cabin for a family get away. The main bedroom on the first floor has a full size bed, while the other two bedrooms upstairs only had single size beds. the bedrooms upstairs had 2 - 3 beds in each room. LOVE THIS PLACE!

We were soooo disappointed!!! Nobody was expecting us, not the caretaker or Josh. There was 10 ft of snow blocking our entrance to the cabin, the door was locked on the inside preventing us from entering! Realizing we were not going to get in and no one around, we left. We drove 4-5 hours to get there from Bend and had to turn right around to drive another 4-5 hours home. Not Having that anticipated time in the cabin and all the time spent for nothing. All our food was for cooking and not for immediate eating. We were very upset! And Josh was so sorry and refunded our money, but how do you replace our getaway and lost adventure. We will NOT trust you guys again. Barbara K

We enjoyed staying so close to the lake, although it can get very busy there in the summer. Lovely cabin, very clean.

It is a beautiful place. Rental is old and historic. Too bad it is not well maintained. Smoke alarms were just hanging. Even though dogs were not allowed they had been inside and had smeared windows. Propane heat would sort of “blow” up when it came on making enough noise it was hard to sleep. We did write these things down and told campground host. I will go back it will be more prepared next time.

The cabin really needs an overhaul in terms of equipment and cleanliness, to include: 1) the oven is really out of wack .. not level, some of the burners don't work, it smells super bad as needs a thorough cleaning of burnt grease inside the oven when you turn it on 2) the fireplace / blower doesn't work which is needed for warmth 3) the door of the downstairs bedroom hinges are loose and the door falls off 4) cleaning equipment (e.g., mop) is really dirty / disgusting so when you clean the place upon leaving all you are really doing is mopping around wet germs for the next place .. overall, seems borderline health hazard

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
