This place was so beautiful, so peaceful and has fantastic hot showers! Its far out of the way with no service except text & phone call. I painted & paddled the river and read a book. I will return. Other campers were so friendly and so was Whitley. She was friendly & helpful!

Good little place to stay. Just occasionally hear the park ranger yelling at the host. My advise be considerate to what the host ask, cause they are just doing what he (the ranger) tells them to do.

The host is wonderful!!! . The grass is NEVER mowed, NEVER!! Someone is going to get snake bitten. It certainly isn’t like it used to be.

Cranesnest is a nice family oriented campground, but to strict on some peoples parking.

good place to go only issue i have is the road going in is dirt and very dusty for about 3 miles to 1st camping area and another 3 miles to boat dock and im 57 yrs old been going ther on n off all my life and all the money they have took up though the yrs they could at least paved the road, and they have a primitive site on down the road few sites no electric they could run electric on down there and make those sites better to cause they charge the same price 24 bucks a night

The rangers are very rude at times. I think the $5 entrance fee for visitors is too much for what is available for them to do. We can go to other state parks for $2 and there is numerous things available for us to do. The bathrooms were unavailable for a lot of our stay. We have to clean out our own firepits and there aren"t equipment provided to do so.

Rules seemed to change overnight. No parking on grass, having to clean out our own fire pits.

Cranesnest Campground is centrally located to some of the most scenic attractions in SWVA such as, Breaks Interstate Park, the Russell Fork river Gorge, Spearhead Trails system, Clinch River State Park Pine Mountain Trail, John Flannagan Lake & more.

The campground was the most run down I have EVER seen it. My family has camped Cranesnest for over 20 years. The grass was so EXCESSIVELY high. The trash was over flowing And on the ground. The smell was sickening. Swarms of flies EVERYWHERE! If we had been new to the area we would not have even unhooked the camper. Higher fees and no maintenance??? Also lot’s of campgrounds are outlawing hoverboards they are EXTREMELY fast and dangerous to the riders and the guests. They speed around animals, pedestrians, and vehicles. A small child slammed into a truck while I was there and was bleeding from his face BAD. Another child got hit by a hoverboard while taking a walk

Great camp ground. The bathrooms were cleaned daily. The grounds were kept trimmed, and very neat. Very well lit at night. Great access for fishing, and boating. Good family campground, great playground! Will definitely be back!

Cranesnest Campground is a family friendly place to go with a good playground for kids & is situated right on the river.

The campground host, Candy Carrico, was helpful, informative, and could not have been more gracious. The campground is small, beautiful, and user-friendly. Although it's located on the Cranesnest River and not the Flanagan Dam and Reservoir, water activities are nearby.

Prices have increased, but nothing has been added to the park to make the increase. The park is almost empty, but you have to pull out for 7 days after staying 14. I feel that is losing money on the parks part. Why not keep it full no matter who is paying and staying, as long as other rules are being followed.

We absolutely love this Campground. It is a local Campground for us and we try to take advantage of it several times a year. The sites are nice and all but a couple are concrete pads so leveling up is a breeze. The bathhouse facilities are adequate and maintained well by staff and volunteers. Play area for the kiddos are modern and well kept. Only wish the Campground was open further into the fall as we enjoy camping well into October and November to enjoy the fall weather and beautiful fall foliage.

Enjoyed camping at cransnest. Wish we could stay longer than 14 days in a row, I understand if you are booked but when you have a empty spot I feel like it is better for someone to be in it than empty

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
