I gave it 5 stars because I love the area. The campground is a deplorable mess due to the forest service coming in and cutting down diseased trees and there were many. Good luck finding a level site for your tent anywhere in the campground as there is tree debris and ruts from tree removal machinery. Understand that the campground didn't open until July and has been closed the last 2 years, but they need to get in there and level out some tent sites!

2023. After a 3.5 year closure, it is open. Be aware that all the site photos are now inaccurate. The USFS hazard tree removal has devastated the campground. Not only is much of the site privacy gone, but the USFS did not clean up the mess. A few sites have been raked around the tables, that is all. Many of the sites have nowhere to put tents now, there is wood everywhere, slash piles, uneven ground, and parking spaces, broken picnic tables, and bear boxes, and some sites lack fire pits. What a bargain that we get to pay for this! Site 11 is the worst with a GIANT slash pile (fire danger?). Site 9 has a huge tree that was felled right into the creek, blocking access to what was once a pristine spot. Negligence and lack of care by the USFS. Heartbreaking, as it was such a special campground. NOT HAPPY!

Awkward camp sites. Old lateens that need some upkeep and are lacking. Our fire pit was 6 inches away from a bush covered in bug sacks. We were on a fire ban, so we prevented a forest fire. Never been bit by so many bugs dispute being covered in deet. I see why this campsite was available 2 weeks before booking. Felt like the campgrounds were an aftermath of logging. Dont see myself going back.

Sites needed a ton of attention. Picnic table was unusable and not on level ground. We learned that this campground had been closed for 4 years. Lots of downed limbs. Logging in area and lots of trees have been removed. We loved the creek & meadow. An awesome trail starting in campground. Bathroom very clean. No running water.

Be advised... This campground is in the process of being logged and a lot of the sites are very ripped up and there are huge slash piles and huge piles of logs everywhere!! Some sites are ok, mostly on the North West side, but a lot are not usable.

Site numbers were all mixed up. Major wood work has made the sites pretty ugly as well as dangerous with huge sticks with jagged ends sticking up out of the ground. Shouldve been shut down for longer for this maintenance

We stayed in campsite #4 for one night, 8/5/23. This campsite seems to be more utilized for RV's than tent campers. The only usable tent site was on the other side of the driveway from the table/bear box, which was close to the different campsite number, which luckily was not reserved. The fire fit wasn't really usable as the surrounding bush/brush was almost growing into it, with maybe 1-foot clearance. Lots of construction and tree removal are being done here. After a good time of general confusion and scratching our heads trying to make sense of the campsite layouts, we pitched the tent and had a quiet night. I would pick a campsite on the surrounding outside loop next time. I don't think this site is really intended for tent camping. If the other two sites right next to it were booked, it would have been a very confusing and close quarter interaction without much privacy.

Campground needs some attention. The table are disintegrating & the ground was covered in blow down branches. Additionally the key to the bear locker was locked inside the bear can

After waiting three years to come back, I was dissapointed to find that my favorite camping spot was used as a staging area to remove most of the trees. There were a lot of broken branches in and around the site. I felt it was a hazard to park my travel trailer and dangerous walking around. The table was way out of level. I came back this weekend (stayed at another space) to find my complaint was heard as it has been cleaned up and the table is closer to level.The picture posted is an old one. The campsite does not look close to this anymore.

I've been going to Chapman for over 30 years. It is a great little campground in a very beautiful forest.

Lovely campground and close to the lakes basin area with lots of lakes to visit. Campsites along the back loop look like the best!

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
