I love that place

If you do not have ATV/motorcycles, do not camp here. We left after one night. The vehicles go all night, and this spot is right where they all pass to go to the dunes.

Bathrooms and campsites were great no issues. This campground is clearly for sand buggies and motorcycle enthusiasts. Everyone was nice but clearly expect noise in the early morning and late evening. Great beaches too.

Too loud even after curfew. I get its for atvs and what not but the noise never ended.

There was no camp host! The bathrooms had not been attended to..dirty and NO TOILET PAPER for the first two days we were there. The maximum 8 persons per site was not enforced, not even close! I spent hours picking up trash around my site with my grabber and still didnt get everything. Most likely never go back to this campground again.

Our campsite was clean. We were right across from the bathroom. Had a great time while we were there. We look forward to coming back again next year.

Got to Sand Lake at 2:55 for check in at 3:00 pm. People were in our spot we reserved months ago. Walked over to find no reservation dates posted on any of the reserved spot posts. Went over to park host to find there was no trailer or person in the park host spot. Went to the other section, again no park host. Walked over to the other section to find an off-duty sign but a guy walking back to his trailer. Spoke to him as he stated he would see if he could get over there and talk to them but that he had to go put out a fire that someone had left burning with high flames. We walked back to talk to the people in our site and they stated they weren't planning to leave. We told them that we had this site reserved for months. According to check out time they should've been out by 12:00 and it was past 3:30 by this time. There was another big group with them that were there in a different site with a trailer. Not sure if any of them paid to stay there and or if anyone is even checking or knowing when people come and go. They finally left our site and moved to a different one. With no host for who knows how long, no one writing the reserved dates on the post who is watching over this campground. Tuesday, we noticed a trailer and vehicle in the host spot. We were there from Sunday and left Wednesday. While we were there, the bathrooms across from our site WERE NOT CLEANED at all. Trash overflowing everywhere, toilet paper out, toilets/sinks NASTY. When camp host was parked there the sign was always marked off duty. I am unsure what their job duty is as a park host and or what they get paid to do. This was the worse experience here we have ever had. In previous years, the bathrooms were at least cleaned each day, posts were marked with dates, and someone was available for questions. It may not be a busy time of year but seems this place has gone downhill bad! We're inconvenienced and delayed check in/set up so had to cancel dinner and other plans. Why reserve/pay in advance?

The campground has deteriorated. There are established rules an none of the rules are being followed. ATVs are being driven and parked on the grass areas of the campground. The direction of traffic flow is not being followed. Children are riding ATV,s unsupervised and speeding in the campground areas. There is no way to enforce the posted rules of the campground. If you say anything about the issues, you will only get anger applied to you. Really a sad campground as of lately. No one cares.

Loud music and starting ATV engine every 1 hour till 3am in the morning. No body confronted them. Of course, there is no phone service to call 911.

Someone was in my spot. It was Labor Day weekend and the place was packed. They werent home when I got there, so I just drove to Lincoln City area rather than mess with it. No camp host to help.

We camped here beginning of September. With school starting it didnt seem too busy. The spots were nice a spacious. Nice trail out to the beach without a lot of people. There will be noise from recreational vehicles but it dies down at night.

This campgrounds was mostly fine but a handful of things made our stay less pleasant.The location itself is nice, with only 15-20min of driving down to Pacific City. Its Creek/Beach access is especially nice for exploring and wading.Upon arrive to our site we found lots of cigarette butts, partially melted glass bottles, and other various debris in the fire pit that had to be cleaned out. There were also lots of bottle caps strewn about the ground.Our particular site (73) was lacking in any particularly level spot so we had to deal with some slant in our tent setup. There was some shade towards the later part of the day but for the most part our site was in full sun most of the day. These things obviously wouldnt be much of a problem for those trailer camping.We arrived mid week and only dealt with some of the noise during the day of the quads, dirt bikes, etc. and the families who were there honored the quiet time of 10pm - 6am by not running there generators.We stayed until Saturday morning, and on Friday there was a fresh arrival of several new campers, all belonging to one group. The experience of multiple trucks, toy haulers, and trailers rolling into the sites was comparable to Taylor Swifts Eras tour in terms of commotion.It was the weekend leading into Labor Day, but the illegal mortars/fireworks being shot off inside the campgrounds, generators running all night, and loud music being played that on Friday made for a very frustrating experience. Especially the explosions at 2 in the morning.Flush toilets and running water bathrooms were a plus, but there was no soap in the mens room for washing, so we had to get some hand soap for ourselves on a trip into town. We might consider this location again for a midweek visit not during a holiday week/end, but otherwise well be looking for quieter sites to tent camp in.

The dunes were great at Sand Lake during our trip.Our camp site was clean, quiet, and had good access to and from the dunes. Restroom facilities were clean and stocked.Great place for entry level sand dune riding!

I booked my spots in February, showed up in August for my spots and the book one of them out again number 47. I called camp host and he told me it didn't say who it was booked to just that it was booked they couldn't pull up names or refund me. And there no phones service so I couldn't call the sight. So I have to pack 2 trailers and trucks into one sight. And was out the money i don't think I'll ever stay there again.

EXTREMELY LOUD!!!!!!!!!! We got here during the evening and it was still SOSOSOSO loud. Abour 90% of the lot was atvs and dune buggies. Your ears will literally rattle from the noise. We stayed for about an hour. Trying to walk to the beach without getting hit by these loud death machines.. Ended up turning around and LEAVING. We stayed at a very nice and QUIET first come first serve campsite in the area. God bless that campsite and wendy the host. DO NOT STAY HERE. 99% of the good reviews are from the dune buggy people.

Clean and nice camp host, very lenient on your setup and the arrangement of things, which is very nice! I would have given the last star but holy smokes was the bathroom sink and mirror nasty. Probably understaffed for anything better. I plan on bringing some bleach to clean it myself next time

A favorite place to camp. But...shocking lack of staff or forest service presence.
@PrestonS546764 · Camped on Aug 8, 2024 at Campsite #74
Overall the campgrounds are well cared for and being close to the beach is nice. We personally didn't realize this is a motocross-preferred campground and engine noise is everywhere. Not a negative of the cammpground, just wasn't for us :) The place looks like a lot of fun if you want to ride some bikes.The big issue with this particular site is the path between the campground and the day-use area runs right through the campsite. We had people just walking right through between our picnic table and the firepit. This should not be a campsite. If you stay here, just don't pick this site number. Plus the site was severely uneven with only one small area level enough for a tent. Grab another spot here if you can.

This is our 3rd time staying at this campground. We will come back no matter what. However, I will say that this most recent stay (Aug 4-10) it was so dirty. There was garbage all over our campsites (14-18) and bones were everywhere. We had to rake our sites so our kids didnt step on anything that could have hurt them. Our dogs kept wanting to ingest these bones (looked like spinal chunks of an animal). We were happy because we got to go camping but the overall appearance was awful. Plus, the garbages hadnt been picked up recently and was OVER FLOWING. the bathrooms were gross and ran out of toilet paper. Like I said, we will go back no matter what as this is the FIRST time we werent 100% happy with everything.

Loved the site, plenty of room. Close to the estuary, and like that loop. Didn't have any problems. Would just remind people if you are camping at the dunes, ppl are their to ride. I have seen lots of reviews about noise, you are camping in a ATV use area. I would expect noise and riding. Loved the campground and the access to the estuary and dunes.

Location is excellent to find hikes in surrounding area. The access to the river is great. Campground has become neglected and out of control. No enforcement of reservations and rules. No host when we visited. Safest Monday- Thursday, the weekend is a nightmare! Be prepared to clean up food waste and garbage from your site. Great location and original plan, it's just gone downhill in the last few years.

Dirty restrooms and plenty of dune drivers. Quiet hours 12-6. Horribly loud :-(

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
