Beautiful campground and resort nearby, definitely recommended. The drive to the site was not as bad as other comments seemed, definitely bumpy and recommended with a high clearance vehicle. But i enjoyed the trip. Site 25 is great with a nice shading but there is a FAT hill from the car to campfire and tables haha

Robert is an absolute rockstar of a campground host, you will not find cleaner pit toilets anywhere, it's amazing what he manages to do with what he is allowed, especially how dated the infrastructure is.Facility amenities are very dated and no love from our government has been shown this place in decades - many many improvements are needed to make this place more hospitable.

The campsites are generous the area is gorgeous the VVR is right there with food showers ice etc. The Kaiser road is tolerable until the turnoff to Edison. After that it is terrible.

This location is absolutely beautiful! The last 7 miles of the drive to the lake keeps the faint of heart from visiting it. We will make this a regular camping/hiking destination for us every year!

Nice campsite by the lake. The road in was a bit hairy but we made it and had a good time.

Beautiful campsite. Bathrooms were really clean and surprisingly good smelling for vault toilets. Bear box was a little short to be able to get one of our ice chests in.

Do NOT book site 24 during the summer!! They cut down the huge tree in it and now there is 0 shade, like literally 0. We ended up having to move to a different site since it was unbearable. The host was very nice and accommodating and helped us figure out if we were able to move to a site with more shade. The bathrooms were clean, lots of water available, and the sites (not 24 lol) were well maintained. Will definitely be back as the resort being close by offered fun things to do like renting kayaks, boats, delicious food at the cafe, and people from all walks of life!

The campsite is great, the road in is HELL. $1500 tow bill for the potholes for the section from the Mono Hot springs to Mono overflow. We thought the road was bad in 2023? 2024 was jaw dropping. Rumor has it the Forest Service felt paving some Jackass campground parking lot was the priority (strange, because both campsites with a name like that in Sierra National have been closed for years.) and decided to let the potholes go. The section of the road is super narrow, so if you take the potholes slow.... you will loose traction with all the granite sand on the SUPER steep section. Rent something with AWD/4WD and a high clearance.My only other tip is bring pop-ups as we heard A LOT of people complaining about the lack of shade. We bought two and funny, we were fine.The campsite itself is fine, love the easy access to the delicious dinners at VVR, and the lake is wonderful!

Campground is fine and in a very beautiful area. Local hiking is wonderful. Additionally, the food at the Vermillion Valley Resort next door is excellent. I would give this place 5 stars, but the road to get there is horrible (especially after Mono Hot Springs) and takes literally hours to go from Huntington Lake to Lake Edison due to the single lane road and the potholes (10 mph road for 20 miles) I would not take anything less than an SUV over this road. It is in a primitive location.

Rob, the camp host was exceptional, he's personable, an expert on the area, and a hard worker. The toilets were spotless. Please get jackass meadows open again thx

We had a great time at this campsite. It's super remote which is cool but once you get there, the campsite is nice too. The camp host offered us some free brisket the first night which was fantastic, and overall it was a well kept and beautiful location.

Great campground, well maintained, clean and beautiful. Enjoyed my stay very much with some good hikes. Tge road in is a negative with huge potholes and very difficult to navigate.

Campground is well cared for and host Robert was friendly and helpful. he could keep his hounds from baying, it got annoying when they continued on for 15-20 minutes or more. The resort area is looking pretty rough, old trailers, damaged and decrepit campers and trash all around the between buildings. This is very disrespectful to the beautiful Sierras. I know its expensive to remove the trash but pack it in- pack it out should apply. Edison needs to step up.Regards Mark

The road up to the campsite and lake takes around two hours. Be watchful of others, it is a one lane road, go slow and pull off to the side when you can. The campsites were a little hidden if youve never been to the area they can be hard to find, but there will be a sign posted to the right directly following the Resort. The camp host is a little further up the road from campsite one. Bring strong bug spray because the site is right next to a marshy area, also wear hiking boots if you got em. It gets pretty cold at night up there even during the hottest of months, so pack accordingly. The lake was very cold but beautiful none the less. They have bathrooms and bear-proof dumpsters a short walk from the site as well. You can find a map of the vicinity online if you search for it. There is in-fact no service up there. At the resort next door they do have a land-line you can use if needed. Wi-Fi is around $25 per device and in my opinion is kind of steep so I recommend just calling with their landline whoever you need to get in contact with. They have card games and board games you can borrow as well just make sure you bring them back. Showers at the resort are around $8. Lock absolutely everything scented and food in the bear-box provided at the site. It can fit a medium cooler and four to five grocery bags. Bring your own drinking water. I recommend buying wood locally from shops or gas-stations at shaver lake before you arrive. All fallen wood can be collected and burned as well. I recommend walking down to the lake at night and seeing the stars from there, just be aware of your surroundings and dont cut through occupied campsites if you can. Also walk in groups and bring really good flashlights. Overall was a wonderful experience and had beautiful surroundings. The view of the stars from the lake is mesmerizing. Worth the long trek and the price.

Do not stay here if you are looking for peace and quiet! Which is a real shame, because the site itself is lovely. It's got a great view of the lake, multiple flat and shady places to pitch a tent, good condition bear box, picnic table, and fire pit, and the host is friendly but not intrusive. Hence the three stars. But! This site is in direct sound-wave of the resort next door and they RUN. THE. GENERATOR. ALL. THE. TIME. They have to - I get it - it's their only source of electricity. But if I had known how LOUD it was, and that it would be in operation from early morning until about 10:45 at night, I would have found another campground, or at the very least, a site further away. I came for peace and quiet and instead it sounded like I was parked next to a machine shop. The resort also emits noise from amplified music, chainsaws, etc., but it was the generator for me that was so stressful, because it was incessant. Also, be aware of the road, it's every bit as bad as you are worried it might be. Fill up on gas before you come! My Toyota Corolla did a super job, but it was harrowing! Be prepared with lots of maps, most of the nearby trails have poor signage, if any at all. July 2023 the lake was great for swimming, however, and wildflowers were everywhere!

Great site. Fire pit easy to use. Restrooms close by. Tent site was nice and flat, close to parking spot. Bear box large enough to fit a wide (but not tall) cooler.
@LynetteM95EBA8 · Camped on Jul 18, 2023 at Campsite #7
beautiful place, however, the fire pit was almost full of ash, the bear box had a broken clasp, could still get it to close the box. However, the issue with bears would have been nice to know when we got to our site. We had to shoo the bear out of our camp for two nights, several times each night. We finally left a day early tired of fighting to keep the bear out of camp. It would be nice to have the camp host make rounds and remind people that bears are in the area and to put things away. To encourage the bear to not come back. I hope no one gets hurt. Hopefully Fish and Game has been notified.
@JimR3616045 · Camped on Jul 13, 2023 at Campsite #11
The facilities are the same ones i have visited for 50 years. I little clean up would would help (tables, bear boxes, water (not potable) and bathrooms). Also, the lack of enforcement related to bears and food allowed neighbors to leave coolers out even though a bear and cub had been int he camp every night.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
