This site is right by the main entrance, so there's the potential for some vehicle traffic noise. But it's also close to the potable water spigot and vault toilets (but far enough away that you can't smell them). This site has a nice area set off to the side that makes sense for a tent and another area with a firepit and picnic bench. I definitely enjoyed my stay. Things were clean and well-kept. If you are looking for nearby hiking trails, there is one at this campground, but there is almost no tree coverage - so in the warmer months, you'll be in full sun for almost the entire hike. It's also about 10 miles one-way to get to Big Bear Lake.

Wonderful time at Hanna flat! went with my other friend and spent two nights there, sites felt pretty spread out and comfotable with lots of space, and lots of little areas to explore around the site! Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting an easy to get to and fairly chill campsite, be aware the road there is not paved tho!

We had a wonderful stay at Hanna Flat! The road was bumpy (especially past Camp Whitter) but we had taken note and driven our 4WD car, I would highly recommend that. Its a quiet campground and the bathrooms - although pit toilets - are well tended to. It is family friendly with a lot of great roaming space, quiet at night and ample water, bear boxes, trash and recycling spots. Please note: there is no Verizon cell phone service at this site! We cannot wait to come back!

Campground was well kept. All water features worked. The bathroom smelled like a hole in the ground. lol cause thats what they are.

Campsites were clean with lots of shade and flat spots for tents. Minimal insects, despite being next to a creek. Camp host was awesome.

Kevin, one of the hosts was such a great help while we were there. Our car battery died and he was able to jump it, and really helped us out and eased our stress. The trail nearby is great and not very strenuous. I only did a little of it but it is a 11 or 12 mile loop. Great spot. The many first some first serves will make this one of my spontaneous camping spots for sure.

The campsite was clean, the camp hosts and staff did a wonderful job keeping the bathrooms clean. As always, people are the problem, where they do not abide by common curtesy and don't have respect for other campers. There were a handful of campers that were way to loud after 10:00 PM, continuing to plan music and laughing out loud into the wee hours of the night. No one at our campsite got any rest during both nights that we were there. Not sure if the camp host is powerless or unable to correct this behavior but it ruined the camping experience. I usually don't write reviews, but felt the need for other to know and consider before making a reservation.

Beautiful sight. Road leading up is not paved (not a big deal) just good to note. Campground is more desolate, not right in the busy part of big bear lake, so better camping experience (in my opinion). The drive into town wasn't a big deal for us or hard to get to. Alot to do up there at big bear lake on the village side. Camp host had great personality, friendly, and helpful. We overall had a wonderful stay. I would come back.

This was our first time at Hanna Flat campground, and we'll definitely return there. Our campsite, #53, was huge, with plenty of big trees, bushes and other plants. Other campsites on our part of the road were also large and nicely situated, but some were more open to the road. The campground is well maintained. After campers leave, the camp manager picks up any litter left behind (thankfully, not much of that) and rakes the dirt. The vault toilet rooms are cleaned and supplied at least once a day. Water spigots are plentiful and the water is cold and delicious. There is a trailhead for the trail that goes to Grey's Peak right in the campground. The road inside the campground is paved, so there's little dust when vehicles go by.There were a few problems that were outside of the control of the camp managers. We arrived Sunday afternoon, and by Tuesday morning, all of the trash bins were completely full, and the next delivery of empty bins was going to be on Friday. On the reservation website, we chose the option for a "full shade" campsite. Ours and many of the others in our area had a lot of shade from the trees, but they all had portions that were very sunny. Our table and benches were in full sun from mid-morning to mid-afternoon, and our tent was in full sun for the entire day. We had camp chairs and a little table, and with so much space in the campsite, we were able to move them around to stay in the shade.Be aware that you have to drive about 2 miles on a dirt road to get to Hanna Flat. The road is well maintained for the first one to one and a half miles, but after that, there are a number of deep slumps or channels in the road. There you have to drive very slowly and carefully.In the middle of the week, there were few occupied campgrounds.

Beautiful campground. Beautiful views. Close to big bear lake. The last bit of the road had a pair of puddles that was a little hard for my prius to get through, but I did it. The water was a very murky brown (but I was told by the rangers it was tested and safe) but I still bought water from the store by the turn off to the rim of the world road (20 minutes away from camp down the dirt road). I would go again for the beautiful campsites, friendly rangers and the trail that starts right from the campground. Lovely area.

The hosts at Hanna Flats were amazing. The camping spots and facilities are kept very clean and perfectly prepared. The hosts are active, friendly, and go out of their way to help you. I interacted mostly with Matt, and he not only made sure all was good with my site, he also had great recommendations for activities and other sites I was interested in and provided me with maps and guidance on the rules of the area.The overall campground is a great family space with hiking trails, access to off-road routes, and still close enough to downtown Big Bear for any supplies or other activities. Bathrooms are abundant, they are potted, and there are no showers but thats ok if you are prepared with alternative hygiene options you bring with you. Love this place and my visit!

I have driven by Hanna Flats for years and never stayed there. We intended on going to Big Pine Flats but this late in the year, it was closed. I also didn't want to drive a full SUV that far on Coxey Truck Trail. The road is in very poor condition, we found that out the next day on a day trip to Holcomb Creek.HF was very empty, only about 3-4 other parties. We stayed in #61 which had too much sun for my liking, but we also couldn't have aniticpated highs in the low 70s in mid-Oct, it was beautiful. 36 at night meant you needed a fire the next morning, We stayed 4 days and will return, albeit in a different space as the neighboring #60 site is just too close for any privacy. I understand from the terrific camp hosts that summers up there are pretty wild, it fills up.

Parking spots were too tight to get two vehicles in. The second vehicle in just about all the spaces were just barely hanging out in the road. Also, it would appear if you can have a lock box for food to keep bears away. Why couldnt you have a secured lockbox for trash instead of walking all the way to the entrance of the park, this could be accessible by all bathrooms There could also be a pulley system with a rope attached to pull trash up in a tree, till it is ready to go to the dumpster.

Awesome hosts. Great location. You have to take a dirt road for about 10 minutes. It is passable my any small sedan. Nice and clean.

Kim and Matt were both amazing hosts! They loved sharing information about the camp and kept it nice and clean, sites and bathrooms. I have camped there three times in the last month since finding and I live here also.

Ive been coming to Hannas Flats for many years, one of my favorite camp sites. I enjoyed my stay again this time but was disappointed to see the restrooms with sinks & flush toilets closed once again. Since there are no showers restrooms with sinks and mirrors are more important and are truly missed, not to mention even less toilets available. Also the other half of the camp ground being closed was a disappointment. Hopefully these things will be available in the near future. Thank you for maintaining a beautiful camp ground.

Nice campground in a somewhat remote area north of Big Bear lake. The sites are pretty close together but there weren't many people there on a sunday night in early september. It's about a ten minute drive or so down a dirt road to a small market where they sell firewood and supplies. There are a couple of restaurants here as well. Bigger grocery stores are not too far in Big Bear City. There is a really nice trail at the campground but be careful to pay attention to where you are when the trail splits. We almost got lost right before dark...

Great campground with options for trailer and tent at several sites. Toilets were clean and staff was very friendly ! We loved the mixture of pine trees and boulders throughout the landscape. We are definitely going back!

Super clean campground and really friendly camp hosts. Hanna flat is a dune buggy and jeep lovers paradise due to the off roading access next to the campground. I saw no other reviews mention this before booking our stay. We stayed at site 74 and although the amount of cars driving by wasnt exactly our perfect idea of a camping getaway- it still didnt take away from having a fun time during our stay. The hiking trail you can access in the campground is well worth the trek and youre super close to town if you do need to pick up some extra items. Would highly recommend buying wood in town as its half the price than if you bought in the campground. Pull off to the side of the road around the lake and have yourself a private little lake day! We will be coming back to Hanna Flat but next time well stay away from staying next to the main entrance / service road. Other things to note is the road to the campground is unpaved for the final two miles. The campground entrance at night is hard to find so be on the lookout for a sign on your left hand side (if youre coming from LA/SD area) this is the actual entrance. If you go further and pass through a white gate then you have gone too far. Happy camping yall! Remember to leave no trace and follow those fire restrictions!!! :)

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
