We camped for the first time at Willow Prairie in mid-July. The camp itself is easy to find, is well-maintained, and a very pretty area. We really liked that the sites were not too close together, there were several great horse troughs close by, the bathroom was kept very clean, and the corrals were in good shape overall. The trails were fun with lots of options, and the free trail map (we used Avenza to download) was fantastic. The roads to camp were primarily paved, which is nice. We stayed in site #5 which was easy to back into and set up our LQ with awning. What could have been better: to make the site level it has been bermed so there is a huge step down to the area of the picnic table and firepit, which we ended up not using. The corrals have chain "gates" which did not seem very safe so we added webbed stall gates. We experienced weather in the mid to upper 80's and since the parking site gets full afternoon sun it was very warm. Fortunately the corrals are mostly shaded, so we were happy about that. Overall, a very nice camp and site, and we had a great time.

This camp is well planned for enjoying time riding and camping with horses. The sites are large with several sites large enough to park two LQ trailers. There are 3 stock water troughs placed throughout the camp. Riding trails take off right from camp with many loop trails available. Most riding is in the forest and meadows. Some rode riding is also available. Cattle are free ranged in the forest during the summer months. Camp and trail maintenance is done by many local volunteers and horse groups.

Your camp host Judy is amazing

Nice large treed sun and shade sites. Easy access horse water troughs throughout the camp. Trails are a bit confusing-a numbers, names, colors, system that doesn't always match the maps provided. Carry a compass. We found the McCarrel guide book to be the most reliable. But is is beautiful! Trails are not particularly difficult-if your horse is not yet in great shape. You can choose your "own adventure" to match how long you want to ride. Nice host.

We have been going to willow prairie for 16 years and usually 2-5 times in a season. Our favorite spot is site # 10. This last year they have dropped trees which we understand has to happened but I would have thought they would have cleaned up the site. It was awful. Area had tree branches and stumps to trip over everywhere and made it tough to set up our living quarter horse trailer like before. And looks junky. Very disappointed. Also all water troughs were filthy. We cleaned out the one next to us. But all were unexceptable. We love this camp ground and we’re very disappointed that the people doing the hosting for multiple years were gone. They kept the camp ground immaculate. The troughs were cleaned every morning by doing as easy as a thing as using a small fish net to clean debris out. So simple. We will go back but with unfortunately not expect Much out of new host. Plus the new stuff they have chosen to put in stalls for horses is terrible. It was so muddy where before even when it rained never had this problem would drain nicely, plus using 3/4 minus rock gave my one horse a stone bruise overnight. The pee gravel works much better for the horses and drainage. The trails were not cleared very well but doable. She did drive around camp a lot to see who was there and did clean bathrooms. But never checked on stalls when people checked out. The campground was empty most of weekend except us, my daughter and people have n # 3 that weren’t around much. We walked around each site trying to figure out which other might fit us ok since # 10 is a mess. We have even thought of trying other campsites in area just because so disappointed. Hope things go back to the way they were . Love this place dearly .

What can I say. It was Memorial weekend and rained, the wind blew, hail and snow. We had a patio heater and enclosed canopy so stuck it out. We didn’t ride at all this trip but still had fun just visiting with friends. The new camp host, Judy, was awesome. Just touched bases with us and then allowed us to enjoy ourselves. It was a welcome change after the past few years! Looking forward to more trips this year.

Super clean campsites, super clean water tanks, great Camphost’s!! Trail are marked, makes it easy to go explore and find your way back to camp. I stay here multiple times during the summer, usually much cooler than the valley. So glad we have a wonderful place nearby to go horse camping!

Always enjoy staying and riding at Willow Prairie Horse Camp. The cleanest and nicest camp around with great Camphost’s. The trails are marked and great to ride.
@LauraC357 · Camped on Jun 26, 2021 at Campsite #4
The campground and trails are great. The camp hosts, Russ and Nellie are horrible. They kept coming into my campsite to talk and then Russ ended up being bossy and rude. They made my stay there unpleasant. I understand that they probably have to deal with a lot of unruly aholes but I'm not one. Don't treat me like one! They do work hard trying to keep the sites and grounds clean but their personalities are harsh and downright rude. I was there by myself, my friend had the site next to me and we happened to be right across from the hosts site. I recommend staying in sites 5-10. USFS needs to get new hosts for this location, Russ and Nellie are just a bad fit. They don't like horse people. Just to emphasize, Russ told me to load all my horse poop into my trailer and take it home with me! I asked him if he was kidding, nope! He's crazy! BTW, I was quiet and kept my site clean and left my horse poop in the manure wagon.

Willow Prairie Horse Camp has the cleanest campsites around! Russ and Nellie work hard to keep them clean and nice, even the stock tanks are very clean. The trails are marked much better this year than past years and you can use Maprika to find your way around. Lots of different trails to ride for all levels of horses and riders. Looking forward to returning soon!

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
