This is a very special place for us, but unfortunately has been continuously neglected every year. The cabin is rustic, and have been coming here for 11 years. That being said last year someone stole the battery for the solar lights and it was very dark inside. This year the fixed the battery but the main light over the inside table wasnt working. We did come prepared at least this year for that. But one window has been boarded up, I suspect someone vandalized it again. So this made it darker inside. It is very sad that people have to ruin so many things. It is just hard for us since the price has tripled since we started visiting the house, and it has become more run down. The outhouse was missing the toilet lid to help keep the smell and bugs down, the lock is also broken and needs replaced. The deck needs some TLC, and inside the cabin needs a nice deep cleaning at least once in a while. I know I am expecting too much but with the price, and lack of care its hard for me to justify going. I keep hoping that it will get some improvements every year, we try to do some cleaning up while there but we are on our family vacation. It is one of the kids favorite places to go every summer. This is not a place for everyone, our family enjoys the lack of Wi-Fi, the rustic camping experience, the cold river, and being in nature. I just wish it would get some TLC and bring the Ludlum house back to how it was.

Everything was really good except no camp host and it would have been nice if the lawn mower guy (really nice) could have been there before we showed up instead of as we were leaving.

Overall it was a great stay. Although the grass needed cut and the trail to the river needed to be cleared as there is poisen oak peeking through in many places.

Great place, but getting a little run-down. The nearby toilets were locked so everyone had to walk to the other end of the campground to use the only pit toilet that had to serve the entire campground and the house. There used to be a picnic table near the back of the house that has been taken away, so there is no outdoor picnic table near the house. The solar lights and woodstove make it very homey, particularly on a cold, rainy night.

It's always a blast going there. We go every year if not a couple times a year.

It was the perfect weekend get away! Weather was ideal one day of good weather and a nice rainy day by the fireside. Upstairs was cold this time of year at night in October but the fire heated the downstairs perfectly so we just stayed down there with enough room. I have AT&T and had no service which was perfect just downloaded some movies to my IPad and that’s what we used during our rainy day activity. The campground was quiet and wasn’t busy. The trails around the house were well kept and nice even the creek was a relaxing place to be. Can’t wait to go back!

I gave this a high review because the house was awesome. I did not like how close it was to the campground. My husband and I went all over the area including a hike to Vulcan lake. My family will definitely go back.

Great location, especially the proximity to the ocean with great beaches and hiking, We have found mosquito's to be problematic even when we were there in Sept. We really enjoy staying at the Ludlum House but the last visit, at times we didn't feel safe because of numerous instances of gunfire in close proximity. Of course when I e-mailed the Forest Service District Ranger to let him know I got no response. So much for "caring for the land and serving people".

Fun place for a group camp out as long as the camp hosts are not rude people.

We absolutely loved this place and we will return next year. A nice getaway; not too far. Cold at night and cool in the day. Great for outdoor family activities: volleyball, horseshoes, etc. The nearby creek is cold but refreshing to jump in and rinse off or just hang out and drink beer. The cabin is cozy. BRING TONS OF DEET. There are more mosquitos near this cabin than in the entire state of Wisconsin. I have never seen such a clear sky at night. Enjoy, enjoy, ENJOY!

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
