Had a great time over 2 days camping and seeing the park. The upside is that the park is not very crowded in late April / early May - the downside is that there are limited campgrounds and a number of the roads are closed over the winter period. But it was great to have Elk and Mule deer wandering through the campground !!

Our favorite campground!

Views were amazing. The Park Rangers we encountered were not the friendliest. We were not fans of the shared bear boxes at the campsites. Beautiful place, but had a Disneyland feel (not in a good way). Too many people, even with the registered time ticket system.

Campsite was well maintained. Shared bear boxes with neighboring campsites

Great park. Great site for our RV. Loved the van service to get to hiking trails.

Everything about this campsite was amazing. Forever will we remember the elk herding through our campground, practically through our campsite and t sound of the males bugling through the night. The hosts were so friendly and welcoming. The environment was ideal and breath-taking. Can't wait to return.

This park has it "together", but that said-- one has to select a site very carefully. And, toilet facilities are not created equally in this park. Some loops have flushing toilets while others have outhouses.

Beautiful campground, nice clean facilities. Easy to get to from Estes Park. A lot of elk in the area in the fall.

Our campsite was just down the hill from a beautiful vista of the continental divide! We put our camp chairs up there and hung out a lot..saw Mule Deer and Elk roaming daily. Our campsite neighbors were very friendly..we enjoyed chatting with them. It was so peaceful there and we will definitely camp there again after the repairs and updates are completed! Even though there were no showers and the restrooms were a bit of a hike, we loved being so close to the Elk Herds during the Rut!

Campsite was great! Camped with our small child (3 years old) and it was just a little walk from the parking space to the campsite. Used the bear box. Campfire ring and grate was good to have! Nice and shaded and we were able to hang our hammocks on the trees. Rangers were great at communicating the need to lock up food and other questions. Fire wood was available for sale in the evenings. The vault toilet/bathroom was just a little walk down the hill. We visited in August of 2022 and it was beautiful. We will be back.

Loved it awesome spot for your pup! Convenient bathrooms! Bring small bills for firewood!

Somewhat crowded, but clean.

As a newbie to camping, I had fun and I’m glad I did this. I learned a lot though, such as the need to find a less drafty tent when it’s going to get down to 34°! The campground was convenient and well maintained. The bear proof lockers at each campsite are nice to have - made me less worried about whether I would secure my stuff sufficiently.
@AmyH827 · Camped on Oct 8, 2021 at Campsite #18
Tucked within the valley in the Bear Lake corridor, the location is perfect. The sites were close to each other though felt private. We took our dogs and it was a fantastic experience.
@DJeanT380 · Camped on Oct 7, 2021 at Campsite #56
Having one of the loops closed has given those of us with dogs a great place to walk since we can't go on the unpaved trails with our pets. This will no longer be an option once staffing allows all loops to be open. Designating one or two trails as acceptable for use with leashed dogs would really be appreciated once that happens.....

I've camped at Moraine Park many times. This visit definitely wasn't the best. Because of COVID and staffing shortages, 60% of the campsite was closed. The site I booked was in B loop (B204). On the plus side, the site is next to a ridge, protecting it from the wind. I could hear the wind at night, but it wasn't blowing my tent around. The space was also very close to parking so unloading and loading was very easy. On the down side, the sites are VERY close together in this loop. I could hear the guy two sites away from me snoring every night. This loop also only has vault toilets. Using a vault toilet one time after a long hike isn't a big deal, but using one several times a day for several days is horrible. I felt like I couldn't get the smell off me. I also felt that the rangers weren't patrolling as often as they have in the past. Usually, they're walking around, looking for food that's been left out or fires that haven't been completely extinguished. I've always felt safer staying in the park for this reason. On this visit, however, I saw very few rangers. The couple selling firewood are really grouchy. It's almost comical. Make sure you don't go before 5:30 and make sure you have exact change and make sure you use the handle on top to pick up your bundle of wood. Otherwise, you'll get and earful.

So beautiful
@PaulE599 · Camped on Oct 5, 2021 at Campsite #54
All 'round it as a great three days. Couldn't have asked for more in terms of weather, the elk herd, and the setting. A little hard to turn my trailer around with the loop barriers up. Maybe marking the barriers on the campground map would be helpful.
@ChristinaW542 · Camped on Oct 4, 2021 at Campsite #32
Beautiful campground. Sites are a little closer together, but the location is great. Situated right next to the meadows where the elk hangout. We listened to bugling all night.
@TroyS590 · Camped on Oct 3, 2021 at Campsite #203
I was camping there during the rut of the elk. The second to 8 October. One of the best weeks of my life. Enjoy the campground when I was there. I did a lot of hiking on the trails in Rocky Mount national Park which is probably the best thing about the campground is the access to Bear Lake and other areas of the park. I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed my stayAnd how much I appreciate with the Rangers and people at the campground do. Thank you so much

Very beautiful and peaceful

I wish it were easier to get reservations and hope that the Park can be more fully opened next year. No complaints though, the Elk were incredible, bulging and rutting all night in all their glory! Magnificent! Thank you so much for managing this incredible national resource. We are so fortunate to have it!!

The park itself is still amazing with great sites, nice roadways, decent bathrooms, etc. The bus service was a bit misleading and difficult to follow. We were told the bus ran every 15 minutes, but when we got to the bus, we were told that they were heading away from our destination at the Fern Lake trailhead and it would be 45 minutes before a bus would return going in that direction. Further, the firewood situation was nearly comical. Informed that we needed exact change only after we arrived at the park didn't help and we were berated by the woman selling firewood, even when I offered to get more so no change would be required from my $20. Odd to be so upset in such a pretty place.
@HansZ806 · Camped on Oct 1, 2021 at Campsite #26
The site was about 100 ft uphill from the parking site, so it was a bit of a haul. The camp site was fine overall. I didn’t like the fact that the campfire pit was on the opposite side from the picnic table. The closest bathroom was closed —looks like that part of the A loop was closed. So it was quite a hike to the closest bathroom. I would probably not take this site again in the future. But we enjoy camping at Moraine, especially during the elk rut.

Beautiful setting with the eerie sound of elk bugling.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
