site #8 is not at all flat, we moved to site #12. There was no campground host to talk to, and recreation.gov could provide no help they defer to the on site staff (nonexistant). Nice good sized sites, some in the sun, some in the tree, close to town and very close to the new Beans bike flow park. But still quiet.

This is a nice campground, definitely in the forest but not too far from services in Prescott. However, there is no Campground Host so campsites are not tagged, the dumpsters were overflowing with trash all over the ground, there is no water available, and the bathrooms are very old and stinky.

We were trying to get a site near our friends and there are a ton of handicap sites! Great to have handicap but Im pretty sure your campground has 10Also every single garbage was overflowing and the bathrooms were not maintainedLove this campground location for riding trails and it is beautiful so hoping it will be better maintained next visitAlso site 15 is really bad to get level!!!

I was surprised that there was no attendant! No one checked that we paid for our space. The dumpsters were overflowing onto the ground but were emptied before we left. Unfortunately, a lot of trash blew around. We also counted on buying firewood.All said, we had a great stay and were fortunate to have great campers near us.

Its one of our favorite campsites ever. But this last go around we had random people camping right behind our spot that shouldnt have been there. They were not even paying customers.

Need to have more first-come first-serve sites available FF.

Info on Recreation.gov about sites is inaccurate and the host could be more polite.

Great campsites.

Unless youre hard of hearing, the experience at White Spar Campground would be better if it werent adjacent to Highway 89. During the day and especially on weekends the traffic noise is loud. Motorcyclists love this route and they come roaring up the highway, many with music blaring. Not a pleasant experience.
@MeredithT71323 · Camped on Oct 13, 2024 at Campsite #7
This is a good campground if you enjoy mtbiking and plan to ride the bean peaks trails. Its also close to the town of Prescott. We stayed at site 7. The trees provide good shade and good viewing at night to see the stars. The issues we had with the site were the noise pollution from the highway, the bathrooms were smelly and dont have sinks, and there are no bear boxes at any sites to keep food safe. Black bears do exist in this area.
@TerrieTB234BF5 · Camped on Oct 7, 2024 at Campsite #16
The campground was quiet. Like others have said the outhouses were unbearable!. No shade in most of the campsites and bees were notorious. Even when there is no food around.
@MarkH6047851 · Camped on Oct 7, 2024 at Campsite #6
The campground is lovely. The recreation.gov computer app works well, is intuitive, and gives you the information you need. The Android app, however, is terrible and completely useless. If you want to make a reservation or get information don't waste your time with the Android app Your only option is to use the computer app or you will be sorry. This is a chronic problem and not new. The host complained bitterly about how much extra work this made for him when people arrive after having tried to use the Android app.

Sites were great, spread out, and lots of shade. Hosts were very nice. Vault toilets a little stinkier than most. Did have some javelinas rummage through our site and night so be aware to keep your stuff packed away.
@GrahamT64580C0 · Camped on Oct 4, 2024 at Campsite #7
Sites are easy to access, most have lots of shade, and spaced out. Ours, and a few others, weren't the most level and to the full extent of our leveling capabilities we were still slightly off (Site 7). Still, a great site that's easy to get to. Loved the hiking trails nearby for the kids, Goldwater Lake is nearby, and downtown Prescott weekends are great for the fam. The campground was fine. The campground host were nice. My problem is with the online reservation system. I travel between Alaska, Montana, and Arizona every year. I don't have a carved in stone itinerary. In the Prescott weekend, I needed three nights at the campground but, your website would only allow for two. I figured the campground hosts could straighten this out. No, no, no. It was out of their hands. So, no I do not like online only recreation.gov system.

Our space was really slanted to the left for our RV. We were up on all five levelers on the left side to get in the bubble. Walking around, we noticed that many of the spaces are not level. It is difficult to choose a site from the internet and know ahead of time which ones are more level. Once we were in and settled, the campground is lovely. We had privacy, quiet, and a beautiful view from our campsite. The road noise is noticeable but not horrible. The proximity to town is awesome for popping in for lunch or dinner. The hiking in the area is very diverse and interesting.

We had a wonderful stay! Our spot was perfect for our needs. The scenery at White Spar was beautiful! There were some trails we were able to walk and for the most part the camp spots were adequately spaced apart. We loved that it was close enough to town to pick up supplies that we may have forgotten or go out to have a nice meal. It was relatively close to Courthouse Square in Prescott which is a really beautiful area of town. The only con was that it was a little too close to a busy road and the time we were there there were a lot of motorcycles with loud mufflers running up and down that road, which is the only reason I rated this at four stars instead of five, but the nights were quiet. Other than that this was a terrific campground and we will definitely be going back for many years!

Awesome camping area. Wish it had a dump site though.
@larrym7EB1BC54 · Camped on Sep 19, 2024 at Campsite #23
The RV space was very adequate for our overnight stay although backing a trailer around boulders is never easy. Also, there were cigarette butts on the ground in our space so the space had not been cleaned before our arrival; never saw the camp host come around.

Great campground close to Prescott yet still provided the camping experience we all want. Great sites, very quiet, and the stars at night were just incredible. Great hiking/biking trails right from the campground as well. We would certainly come here again.
@CaraleeL605203 · Camped on Sep 6, 2024 at Campsite #3
As someone who has stayed at this campground several times I am in full appreciation of the new host. Finally someone who pays attention to what is going on in the campground. He is friendly and helpful as well. Things seem to be taken care of there. This is a beautiful treed area with old growth oaks and many tall pines. Lots of deer and birds. I even saw blue birds last time there.The down side is the road noise. Every jerk on a motorbike goes screaming down that road like it is a necessity. How rude! You still have to really choose your site carefully if you rely on solar. Most of the sites are far to shady. 6 is good. So is 3. The forest service should rethink where the tent spots are. Tents should have the shady areas - EG site 3.And the forest service really needs to fix the bathrooms. Although they have obviously been cleaned, and deodorant stickups added, the pit toilets smell so bad! I can barely use the bathrooms at all. They should be more like the toilets at Yavapai campground - the recycling toilets - at least the smell in those is outside instead of inside.
@AnjelitaCE75A6 · Camped on Aug 23, 2024 at Campsite #36
The only bad thing about this site is the location for the tent. It was on a slope. When we would get into our sleeping bags, we would slide down. Other than that it was the perfect size for a small group.

Had never heard of White Spar but it was very good. So close to Prescott Whiskey Row and so put in the country too. We had our Side by Side and we found nice Forrest off roading close. Young lady camp hostess Macie went above and beyond to help us find a spit that was inaccurate from rec.gov website. Very good 4 days will go back.
@NancyF8422820 · Camped on Jul 27, 2024 at Campsite #30
FILTHY RESTROOMS!!! We have camped at a lot of pit toilet campsites over the past few years and are almost universally pleased with how well they are maintained and how well they function. These pit toilets were the worst we have ever seen and had no sign of ever being cleaned. Bring your own cleaning supplies and be prepared to spend a few minutes cleaning off dried human waste so that you are not sitting on dried you know what. The large black trash bags left inside for unknown reason possibly attracted the mouse that ran past me when I opened the door. Campsite #30 itself was OK but had a 90 degree drive in angle which made backing in a small pop up camper more difficult than normal.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
