By far the most clean and well kept campground we've stayed at. Deena, the camp host, was so helpfull and welcoming during our stay. Even on our way out she gave us a booklet of the NP, some tips on where to go and what to see.It's the small things that really make the difference too. There was soap by the sink in the restrooms. The showers were clean and the water pressure amazing. It looked

We enjoyed our time at the spot we chose. We were disconnected from WiFi, which was what I wanted. There was a very short walk to the river entrance, as well as a 10 minute hike to the nearest convenience store. The convenience store is across from a cute activity area, which has a mini, old-time town built that is interesting to look at. We spent a lot of time in the river and the other campers were very friendly. The camp host provided helpful information via text before arrival and we purchased firewood from her. She was very attentive, always asking if we needed anything, which I appreciated. The things we had trouble with were the meat bees during every meal and in between aggressively flying at our faces and getting into the meals or our plates. A neighbor camper told us he located a large meat bee hive close to the river. Next time, we will bring a meshed canopy, so we can eat in peace. Mosquitoes were a problem too, until we had a consistent citronella candle lit and bug spray on us. There were also some kind of beetles that were attracted to the lights at night and they were on everything the first night.Other than the bugs, there was a train that runs right next to the river and since the campground is also next to the river, the trains loud noise from running through the area at 1:20 a.m. was a little jarring the first night. My husband and grandkids slept right through it the second night though.Overall, we had a great time and made some amazing memories at this campground!

We would like to thank Deena so much for everything we had a wonderful time and her Dog Ruddy is a sweet heart! Looking forward to staying again before we leave to go back to Hawaii! Mahalo from Al and Lori

I've been coming to Hallsted for close to 30 years, and it is always well cared for and we love it! This time was a sadly, different... the campground was in absolute disarray with downed trees, branches and debris everywhere! The walkways were covered, the campsites were a mess. The bathrooms looked like they had not been cleaned since last season in 2022. I've never seen so many spiderwebs or bugs. The showers were not cared for. From the time we arrived to the time we left (4 days) we never saw the campground hosts a single time. It was sad to see the condition that the campground is in, especially knowing what a gem it's been in the past. REALLY HOPING this is a result of the host and that they will not be back.

First time there, didn’t know what to expect. Great campgrounds. Clean facility, thanks to Brett “Camp Host”. And thanks to Linda who I spoke to on the phone and help me book the camp site since my reservation was canceled at Queen Lily due to flooding. Great time with family and friends.

A nice place to camp. Very nice hosts. Trouble with trash being picked up. We camped there for 11 nights and the trash was never picked up and smelled so bad. The host even called about it and we did too. Still no trash truck came! Obviously there is no need to use the bear boxes since the bears had plenty of trash to go through in trash bins that were so full the lid could not even close. No bear bothered the trash.

Nice quiet (except for the train lol)campground. Well kept and great shade. 2 minute walk to the river. 5 minute walk to a general store. Biggest bummer is no host for some reason (staffing issues I would guess) Because if this we could not have a campfire even though this is a maintained campground with fire rings. No host = No fire. Really puts a damper on camping. And before anybody starts to talk about the fire danger I lost everything in 2018 in the campfire so I’m more than aware of the risks but we can still enjoy ourselves if people just use common sense. Hoping it’s hosted next time we are here.

Showers were out of commission. There was a constant all day parade of trucks dumping construction waste in a heap right next to the river. The Feather River at that point is shallow and slow and not particularly scenic. If you want the best that the Sierras have to offer, look for a higher elevation campground.

Wonderful ranger named Troy making the rounds! The campground/showers/toilets were kept clean and well managed.

Showers were not working the entire time we were there and it was 100 degrees. No campground host available for help. Bears ripped open the trash bins and made a mess and it was not ever cleaned up in the 3 nights we stayed. Bears came back multiple nights after they pried open the dumpster lid that was locked shut. Campground was shady and beautiful and the cool Feather River made the trip tolerable. The night sky was fabulous. No cell service if you have ATT!

We had a very nice stay at Halstead RV Camp Grounds. We did not have a lot of interaction with the Staff, but what we did have was productive and helpful. We would and probably will go back to Halstead at some point. Rich H

It is a nice campground, not too crowded during the week. There were some issues with the mens bathroom. there is a lot of mosquitoes. I like the sound of the train.

We stayed in early June 2021 for 4 or 5 nights. When we arrived we couldn't find anyone to help us with anything. No camp host, some subcontractor company that wasn't interested in helping us. The place was in a great location, hardly any road noise, lots of shade and a little access to the river. But the trail was overgrown, a fallen tree was across a site. It was also a terrible fire hazard. I don't think anyone had picked up pine cones and needles for a long time, probably a blanket of them everywhere 6-8" deep. It is really disappointing to see our campgrounds falling into such disrepair.

We loved our time at Hallstead. The campground was quiet, level and has a great balance of shade and sun, terrific if you need to set up a solar panel as we did. Manny, who is the camp host at nearby Spanish Creek, was doing double duty when we were there and kept the place spotless - came around frequently to make sure everyone was comfortable, and obeying the rules. Great guy! There is now a full time host at the campground whom we didn't meet, so be sure to check out Spanish Creek where there is a good swimming hole and say hi to Manny. You will pick up some good camping and sightseeing tips and have a few good laughs. We loved hearing the trains and watching them at the campground and throughout the area. Even being sensitive to noise it was not a bother to us, but it is something to note if you are hoping for absolutely pristine silence.

Great place to relax. Our house was super lazy, most of the time there was no toilet paper and soap.

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
