We have been going to Alvarado Campground for at least 30 years. And it has been a pleasure for us. The campground has always been clean on the grounds and in the portable outhouses. The hosts are always amazing and helpful.

Beautiful campsite and a great location! Very clean and well-maintained. Was very quiet the nights I was there. Great local access to some beautiful trails.

The camp hosts- Patti and Tim were amazing. Alvaredo campground is an old campsite- some sites have been updated and improved. We prefer the older ones. Weekends are loud- so many people- most are quiet by 10 pm. Access to the Rainbow Trail is a bonus.

Restrooms were clean and well maintained. Host was very friendly and helpful. Overall campgrounds are nice and enjoyable with different sites that are accommodating to many types of campers.

This site is very level with newer picnic tables. It has decent AT&T signal. It has some shade during the day. It is described as a double site. We had two trailers in it, and it was a tight fit. There are wider double sites (and some not labeled as doubles) in the campground.

This is one of the most beautiful campgrounds we've visited. Our tent site was secluded and surrounded by aspen trees. The views east across the valley were spectacular. The stars at night seemed incredibly close and bright. Several major trails into the mountains behind the campground begin at the end of the campground. The facilities were clean and the camp host was most accommodating and helpful. Alvarado is a great place.

Beautiful campground! The camp hosts (Tim and Patty if I recall) were terrific, very friendly and kept the campground spotless! We're already looking forward to our next visit!

Clean, beautiful, well taken care of, as usual. This season's camp host is on the ball and extremely helpful. Doing a great job keeping the campground looking amazing!

Nice, secluded place with pretty views. Only a 15 minute drive from town and lots of hiking spots in the surrounding area.

When I arrived the end of May, after asking about the trails from camp, the hosts first words were a horse had a heart attack upthere last year. While Westcliff is at 7800, the campground is 25 minutes away at 9000 and the trails go UPHILL next to camp. We couldnt do as much riding because the elevation was very taxing on my (otherwise healthy) horse. The Equestrian water situation was bad. You have to transport water in buckets UP from the human campground (spigots here dont attach to hoses and the nearest horse camp spigot was broken). No dumpsters for manure. Poorly designed and most trailer parking areas were not level. There were 2 spacious corrals below the camp (but now hauling water downhill) and a pit toilet. Hosts were new and very nice as was local NFS ranger Maudie. They all apologized for the water issue (the cistern also broke the 2nd day, so the only water in camp was from the stream). It had beautiful views of Pikes Peak and snow capped mountains behind camp.

Beautiful site (#47) tucked into the forest. There was a restroom across from the car parking that was in great condition and was restocked daily. The camp ground was busy but everyone was respectful. We will definitely be back!

A bit out of the way, however, the views are great and the sites are well spaced our.

Nice, quiet campground. We were surprised how empty it was mid week.

Alvarado Campground ended up being a total surprise and well be back when we need a couple of days of decompressing in the mountains. Its going to be dry camping no water hookups, no electric, and no sewer dump site. I would have given Alvarado a 5-star rating, except for the fact that you cannot use a hose to fill up your RVs water tank at any of the many water spigots around the campground. I was fortunate enough to have a pair of collapsible camping buckets and a funnel that attaches to the fresh water inlet, so I was able to put water into the tank. It took a while, but it did the job.The campsites are fairly far apart; we had a large group (too large if you look at the limits) that was spread between the sites on both sides of our site, and we could barely hear them. Site 33 had a relatively flat pull in, so leveling with blocks was simple. There is a downhill walk to the picnic table; this was somewhat difficult for my disabled wife, but she was able to make it. Trees are all around the site, offering good shade. A stream runs through the campground, although not next to site 33. Pit bathrooms are located conveniently close and are maintained several times a day. Deer wander through the campground all the time, and we were buzz-bombed by hummingbirds and stared at by squirrels and chipmunks. The fire pit was handy - we had a wood fire both nights of our trip and enjoyed the warmth of the fire at night at 9200 feet. Some of the upper loop sites have a view looking east toward the valley, and I noticed that some had steep driveways - definitely not recommended for RVs. If youre looking for an inexpensive, quiet, accessible (3 hours away from Denver), and beautiful campground, Alvarado is awesome.

Wonderful weekend at Alvarado Campground. This would be a 5 except for the terrible washboard road coming in the last half mile. We had site 15. The best with a creek flowing 5 feet from the back of our motorhome. So nice to fall asleep to.I recommend it.There is also an area for those with horses.

Pleasant quiet stay. Campground was pretty full but everyone was considerate and quiet at night. Bathrooms well maintained.

Host - Larry was excellent!I was able to switch from Site 37 to Site 16. Site 37 was not level enough to park my 21ft trailer.Toilets were kept clean, well maintained!

This is such a clean and we'll run campground. The view of the valley is beautiful and if you get a clear night the starry skies are incredible! We return every year. Some of the sites are small but there are quite a few that will accommodate larger RVs. Handy to have trail access in the CG and the handy restaurant for some fine dining (Alpine Lodge) within walking distance. Nice dirt roads, clean pit toilets and water spigots.

Overall, this experience was fantastic. The sites were well-maintained, the Bathrooms were clean, the atmosphere was calming And relaxing for the week. The only reason I gave it three stars instead of five stars is because for the entire week we were there, we never saw the camp host.. In all my other experiences, the camp host would usually come around day of or within 24 hours of you checking in to verify your reservation, issue a vehicle pass, discuss fire restrictions, and any other pertinent administrative information. Kind of a flew blind for the week and assumed the fires were OK since everybody else had one. given how close it is to my house and the general atmosphere of the campground, I will be returning, but knowing I will need to contact the forest service office ahead of time to find out any pertinent restrictions an info for the area.

Grounds and restrooms were clean and well kept. We stayed at site 26 and had great shade and space. The one slight downside was we had to pitch our tents down a hill from our actual parking / eating area. A couple sites are like this, so confirm site layouts if you are a big family with a tent. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at this location, especially with the access to hiking. We did the venable/Comanche loop and I highly recommend.

Thanks to all our Supporting Members

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
