Awesome cabin, FS had been up to clean for the last time that season a few days before. Tried to leave it super clean. Only stayed a couple nights as I tagged out on my elk hunt on day 1. Had a mouse but the hooks in ceiling worked for storing food out of his reach.

Bad: The cabin sits in the middle of a 100,000 acre 2020 fire. "Scorched Earth" as defined by a wildlife biologist friend. The only animals we saw were grasshoppers in the meadows and cows. The forest service could not even place an old picnic table outside of the cabin. The clearance for the upper bunk to the ceiling was only 12". It could fit gear, but no one for sleeping. Which explains why there was no ladder. The cabin is listed under one ranger district, however it is managed under another one. Difficult to gather info. Good: The road to the cabin is not as bad as posted. Drive slow and we were fine. No boulders to skirt. The single bed was wide enough for a married couple. The outhouse was clean.

I have stayed here several times and the grouse hunting is phenomenal. Having a structure and wood stove is so terrific when the nights start getting cold. I agree with feedback that the foldout couch/bed is rickety. The wood stove is super efficient and will keep you warm. Gracious people stay here as evidenced by the wealth of cookware and firewood left behind. There are surplus electric lanterns and they take D batteries; I have no idea if they actually work. I love this cabin and will stay there every year I can get someone to hunt with me. It is sad to see how much is burned, but also reassuring to see how much of it is still okay and the views are still incredible.

Cuddy Mountain used to be a first rate place to hunt grouse. The fire that recently burned down Cuddy Mountain almost completely burned down the entire forest. I hunted there last year and this year. There is no sign that the forest has started to rejuvenate it's self. The grouse hunting is gone.

Two of us came in Oct 1st. Another on the 2nd. The roads are much better than they where in 2019. Still would recommend a pickup or tall SUV. Found the cabin in good shape except for the stone around the stove. Looks like someone was chopping firewood inside the cabin. We explored the Cuddy Mt and Summer's Grave areas. Excellent views at both locations. Dang, that was a hot fire in 2020. Some of the spots are still black with no vegetation. Left on the 3rd. Cleaned cabin and swept up with provided broom and dust pan. Had an ax and chainsaw, so cut firewood for about an hour and restocked the cabin.

Excellent and beautiful place to stay despite the rough drive in. The cabin was stocked with utensils and other cooking gear that we did not expect. The futon was comfortable. We did not use the bunk beds. The wood stove kept the cabin almost too warm until early morning hours even though we quit stoking it when we retired for the night. One concern we had (have) is that the site is apparently available for other campers who do not stay in the cabin. This could be a problem for those (like us) who want their privacy, especially if a group was sharing the the site. This also has some bearing on plans to raise the reservation fee from $20 to $50 per night. It would be nice if Recreaton.gov at least requires reservations to camp here to a limited (no more than one) space or limits stay to those who have reserved the cabin.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
