Been to many of these cabins and lookouts, and this one is a gem. Hiked in from Mush Saddle and enjoyed the views the whole way. Pretty well signed. Cabin is sparsely supplied compared to most FS rentals, so bring everything you’ll need. Including water. Don’t count on the spring. Hike down to Pete Ott Lake was great, spent the day there. Amazing views at the cabin watching sunrise/set and the stars. No mice that we heard, but some droppings here and there. Wood stove came in handy during a storm. We’ll be back!

Several phone calls made with the local forest ranger station during the week leading up to the trip - wasnt until the day before the reservation that someone told us there was so much snow it would be at LEAST a 6 mile hike in and no guarantee we could actually access the cabin. Was told it was too late to cancel the reservation. I would recommend booking this one late season.

Cold Peak Springs was an amazing hike, a well-kept cabin, and just the type of getaway we needed. If you're traveling late into the summer, be sure to bring lots of water or be willing to dig into the dried creek bed about a mile out from the cabin. You should also expect company from four-wheelers throughout your stay. To our delight, there was tons of huckleberries to pick on the climb up to the peak. Overall this was an amazing experience that I would recommend to anyone up for a rewarding backpacking trip.

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
