A beautiful little park. The spacing between sites is very nice. Park hosts were awesome!

I absolutely love this park! The only issue is some of the sites are so sloped it is nearly impossible to get your RV level.

Still no dump stations and a little disappointed to see some of the necessary repairs haven't been made. The new camp hosts were wonderful.

On Sunday night breaker tripped & was hot. The pull throughs on right have sewer. No dump have to pull up to pull through & dump there.

The campground has potential with enough TLC. No park rangers, only camp host (which were very nice). We went to a neighboring State Park and could see the potential lost at Double Lake. Maybe one day soon it can come back but... Bathhouses needs repairs, the lake needs repairs and water! Sewage had stopped flowing at some point at a few camp spots! The area can be a real winner if someone cares for it.

We have been coming to Double Lake for years, this is almost like our second home. It's quiet, the trails are beautiful and it's safe. There is a lot to do, hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, fishing, swimming, it's perfect for the outdoors and the children love it.

Nice sites that are not on top of each other

We loved the tranquil and well-maintained park, the bathrooms are clean. I recommend it for camping or spending the day.

Great camp sites with space from neighbors and convenient toilets for tent camping. Kids loved playing in the trees and walking around the lake!

The park is beautiful and well kept. Due to the time of year there were not very many campers. The facilities are older but were clean and well stocked. The campsites were clean upon move-in and spacious. The limited staff was present and friendly. A great park to visit and explore.

Spot 1 - very private- tree coverage on both sides even in December so I couldnt see other campers. Water view.
@MarkR9967928 · Camped on Dec 15, 2023 at Campsite #14
Very nice water-only campsites. Most are at least semi-secluded from nearby sites. Easy to have a quiet, relaxing campout.

I dont know how exactly to rate this place. It was relatively clean, although there was not soap in the bathrooms. The fire pits were pretty picked up, but definitely not cleaned out. There is a trail that goes around the "lake" but it is in serious need of repair. There is no way you could get a wheel chair or scooter on the trail. The lake seemed very low, and would be very difficult to fish out of and I am sure my kids wouldnt want to swim in it. From what we heard, the management company is leaving January 1st, and it seems like they have kind of given up on maintaining the place. The cost is higher than what you would pay for a state park, and so for that I would not hesitate to just go to Huntsville State Park if you are in the area and looking for a spot to camp.

Fantastic campground, great camp hosts. Site #15 was not suitable for my Class B RV, so Host switched me to site #8, much flatter driveway, one of several first-come-first-served non-reservable sites. There are amazing hike/bike trails surrounding this lake. Biked all trails over my 3-day stay. Very peaceful.

Great campground, wonderful camp hosts. Site #1 is extremely sloped, not suited for my Class B RV, so Host got me switched to Site #8 which is flatter and one of a number of first-come-first-served non-reservable sites. There are fantastic hike/bike trails surrounding this lake. Biked all the trails over my 3-day stay. Very peaceful.

Great place for our family of 5 with young kids. Plenty of trails to walk and bike on. Definitely recommend bikes to take full advantage of the many trails you can do. Campsite and area was clean. Only downside is the lake is full of overgrowth, but still a fun and easy place to get to.

Campsite was clean but park needs general maintenance, roads parking lots etc. sites are pretty close together so better be ok with neighbors. Bathrooms were not very clean either.

Camped with 10,8 and 5 year old in tent. Great spot and campsites are very wooded, which is nice for some privacy. Wood and ice was available and manager was friendly. will go again!

Beautiful area. We have visited for many years and love the beauty and quiet Facilities are quite old and dated. Wish more funds were available for repairs. Will be back again

Best kept camping secret in Texas. Beautiful private camping areas, peacefully quiet park with gorgeous views and trails. I've been going for 45 years and although I've camped in many places, Double Lakes is still my fave. Craig and the other camp hosts are amazingly kind and helpful. Craig has taken such great care of this park for years and he makes sure everyone is safe and well taken care of.

Campsite 019 is surrounded by tall trees. The driveway holds about 3 cars. There is a handy 6' wood post to hang a lantern. Also, there is a flattened rectangular area that fit two large tents.The fire pit ring is taller than average. Therefore, it is best to sit on a folding chair rather than a short backpacking chair to catch the heat.If you are facing 019 from the road then 021 is nearby on the left. The nearest campsite to the right is far away. Behind you is 020 which has a great panoramic water view of Double Lake. The bathroom is a few hundred yards north up the road. It has a heated, push button shower. There's plenty of toilet paper but no soap anywhere.Recommend hiking on the secluded Lone Star Hiking Trail. It is a 92 mile trail which exits the park so be prepared to double back! We saw deer on the trail and other locations near the lake.We visited on a very rainy weekend. Thanks to the sandiness of the campsite, drainage was very good and muddy shoes weren't an issue.

Excellent campground! We absolutely loved this park and had planned to make this an annual tradition but were told on the day we checked out that the forest service is taking back over and the park will be shut down for an unknown amount of time. Please dont change anything! Its absolutely perfect the way it is!
@SteveP3205693 · Camped on Nov 3, 2023 at Campsite #53
This has always been our favorite campsite from when we tent camped until purchasing our RV over a year ago. We love the heavily wooded campsites and the trails. A bathroom has been shut down for several years. We have enjoyed the walk out sites option until they became risky to secure on a last minute basis so almost feel maybe open them up for rental also.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
