Very well-kept campground in a beautiful, quiet setting. Very clean restrooms. Nice hiking trail along the river that is kept clear of fallen trees. Dog-on-leash rule should be better enforced. Encountered three rather nasty dogs the first day.

Campground was beautiful and off the beaten path. Loop 5 is by far the most secluded which is nice if youre tent camping. However, loop 5 should be tents only. Nobody wants to hear a generator kicking on and off at night. Loops 2, 3, & 4 are all out in the open, which while pretty gives no privacy at all. Loop 1 is on or near the river which is nice. Tent campers should go with loop 5 or 1 if you choose to visit. I will not be visiting this camp ground again only due to the bathhouses being so bad. Showers were awful and push button showers, so you have to keep pressing the button every 5 seconds or the water will shut off. There no place at all to place your stuff anywhere in the bathhouse and the floors were always wet. If the campground would renovate their bathhouse then I might consider camping here again.

Rainy or Cold? Doesn't matter. We have never had a bad experience here. Been coming for 13 years now. Our kids love it. We always stay in the far loop (Loop 5 or E). If you have young kids, stay closer to the beginning of the loop. We were further towards the top this past time, made the walk to the bathroom a little further than they could handle. Clean bathrooms. Great trails and creeks to explore in. Wonderful camp hosts.

The camp ground is well run by a group of conscientious volunteers who truly care for the facility and the campers. they are polite and very willing to be of assistance if needed. The bathroom facilities are clean and well stocked. this was our 2nd time at Standing Indian and we do plan to come back!! Thank you guys!

We always enjoy our stay on the mountain where it's so much cooler!!! Peaceful and quiet. Only suggestion I have is to limit generators to 8 pm. Very annoying to listen to the loud rattling ones until 10 pm. The noise is heard throughout the loop.

Standing Indian is always a treat. Leave the phones at home and relax with the sounds of nature. Its a super great reset.

Double site 55/56 was really nice. Back loop was pretty private other loops were not.

Camp Standing Indian is in some ways an old-fashioned campground, but it has well-spread out campsites, particularly in the travel trailer and group sites, and has a great creek (Kimsey Creek) and river (Nantahala) running through it. There are old standard apple trees in the group sites and along some of the trails in the upper meadows. Don't let any old Scoutmasters toss apples under your rainfly. Be bear aware, camp lightly, and have fun.

We had a wonderful stay at this campground at two different sites! The place is quiet and beautiful. Some sites are not private, and some are. The open field area is very popular for families and big rigs. No power or cell signal so the experience is like being off grid. The hosts are friendly and helpful and they will deliver firewood to your site. Restrooms are kept very clean, although the shower pressure can be a bit low in some.Be advised that you will be in bear country and be very mindful of that. We had a bear open the door of our truck (we had forgotten to lock the doors) which had some snacks in it and do some significant damage to our vehicle. The windows were closed and the food was in a closed console, so we took precautions. The bear visited us at both of the sites we were camped in. This campground does not have bear boxes at this time. Be sure to take appropriate precautions with all food, the bears here are smart and very good at being bandits. If your car or truck has open loop door handles make sure to lock the doors at night.We look forward to going back despite the bear!

This is a Great campground with good bathroom facilities and showers. We love the hiking and the wild flowers in the Spring are awesome. The dump station is a bit muddy but easily accessible. All the staff is helpful and the Camp Hosts are super.

Firewood for sale at the camp store is always too green to burn and the price is higher than kiln dried at a home improvements store. Bring all the wood you'll need or find another source besides the camp store. Last visit the mens bathroom in the D loop did not have a functioning sink. Trash cans are not emptied frequently enough. Lots of large trees in poor condition with large attached and hanging deadwood over sites, walks and roads. Inspect your site before setting up and try to get a different site if you see widow makers. It's a shame that the vendor is allowed to do such a poor job on what should be a great campground in a beautiful forest

Great campground Loop 5 sites are almost like private camping

Wonderful campground. They delivered firewood that we purchased. Bathrooms are clean but only one women's bathroom was open and the hand dryer did not work......we camped early April and the water in the bathroom was COLD. The shower house had warm (almost hot) water and you cannot control the temp.The hike to Standing Indian is beautiful! The actual campground is very well taken care of. We enjoyed our stay and we will be back!

There were too many campground hosts that seem to be permanently in place and their campsites were an eye sore. The area was great and relaxing.

The campground was terrific. Rate it a 5 for friendly staff. Bathrooms cleaned at least twice daily. I stayed in first loop site 5 next to bathhouse. The creek was beautiful. Firewood on site for sale. Very reasonable price. Bears are in the area! The only negative comment is when I explained to the staff that I was moving on to my next location they talked about the location was horrible. It turned out that it was a very decent place and enjoyed it very much.

Really nice campground, there are a ton of hosts on site, most were nice but one was not. If you want to move sites they are not flexible, you cannot move to an open unreserved site without eating the full cost. This was our first time here. Front loops are essentially an RV park and people run generators all day. Some of the sites are full sun. We had one of those and moved to a FCFS site in loop 5. If you are a tent camper would recommend booking back there, sites are all shaded and it's over the river so there is no noise from all the RVs. Bummer they let all the RVs in, based on other reviews these used to not be allowed and it would really be an amazing place without all the generators in the front.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
