4 Beautiful serine group sites on the river, where we could fish and swim in the swimming hole. Has volleyball net and huge open green field in-between the sites. Campground is just 6-7 minutes away from the closest boat ramp on lake and about 23 minutes from the Cheoah Point Beach. About 2 minutes away is Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest with nice hike trail. If you go left on the Santeetlah Rd about 12 minutes all the way to the end of the road, you will get to the Maple Springs Observation Deck which offers breathtaking views, especially beatiful sunrises. If you like hikes that end with a beautiful waterfall that you can swim in, Yellow Creek Falls is definitely a place to visit! There are a lot of places to visit in the area, like Marie's Lavander Farm, Swinging Bridge on Cheoah River and others. This area is totally worth of exploring.Love this place as it offers peace and unity with nature. No cell service (phone, texts, internet). Bathrooms are pretty nice, if your group is neat and take care of the place. All 4 sites share one bathroom building, which is split in 2 sides, left is MEN and right -WOMEN. Bring your own soap (We get big bottles for each bathroom. Also, bring extra toilet paper. Bathrooms are attended by cleaning people about 2 times a week and if you have a large group, would be a good idea to have couple rolls to last if you run out before they come.

Rattler Ford is a great camping site! The amenities are wonderful. The area is quiet and clean. Its a good place to trout fish.

Very helpful host, group campground very nice and secluded, near boating, hiking, Fontana Village, Tapaco Lodge, and the skyway. Only complaint is the not very nice restrooms and the shower water is uncomfortably hot.

Awesome campground! Helpful host. Our site was the perfect size for our group and so close to Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest.

Scott, the camp host, was terrific! Lake Santeetlah and the beach were wonderful. Very relaxing.

This campground was expensive for what it offered. I reserved Campsite 1 and the path from one of the parking spots went straight into a wet ditch. You couldn’t park right next to the campsite so you had to carry your gear in and out. I ended up just sleeping in my SUV and leaving in the morning. There was only one shower and I’m not even sure it had hot water. I couldn’t find anywhere to fill up my water jug either. Word of advice; North Carolina campgrounds are far superior.

Awesome campground however the bathrooms needed attention the whole time we were there. Beautiful creek side camping.

Beautiful campground, right next to Joyce Kilmer trail. (I would drive to the TH—it is close but can be dangerous walking.) There are spigots for drinking water and the bathhouses are clean. Sites 2, 3, and 4 are on the river; site 1 is not but you can still hear it and walk to it. Two things I would have done differently: download hiking maps before going—absolutely no cell service. Pack your own beer/wine—the ingles in robbinsville is convenient for grabbing camp food on the way in but it’s a dry county! Overall a wonderful trip—definitely will return!

Bathrooms are in dire need of painting. The shower is totally unacceptable... gross. After the crew cleaned, they left a little tiny amount of soap at the sink, we are in a pandemic!! The days before the crew there was no soap, I waited till they cleaned the bathroom, so they just put not even an inch of soap in a small store bought container.

Hadn't visited since summer of 2018 so we loved seeing all the improvements! The 5 teens in our group LOVED using the new beach volleyball court and kicking a ball around on the freshly mowed grassy field. The new rot-proof picnic tables and new fire rings are great improvements. Washrooms were clean and campsites were all in great condition. We enjoyed the sounds of the creek night and day. We actually didn't leave the campground but chose to play in the creek, play games and lounge in our hammocks. In other years though, we've loved going to the trails at Joyce Kilmer Forest that are just down the road from Rattler Ford.

This spot is one of our favorites in the Smoky Mountains. The campground hosts were also incredibly friendly and welcoming.

My friends and I had a great time here! GPS location was accurate, plenty big for my group of 8, and bathrooms were functioning. The loss of one star was for the lack of response from recreation.gov/the ranger station when trying multiple times to contact and it is listed at riverfront, when you have to walk a little ways down there. Other than that— we had a great time and would love to be back.

My 5th grade class and I camp here each year. There is plenty of room for game playing in the field, a volley ball court with sand, clean but small restroom with one shower, and very close to the Joyce Kilmer Forest for a great hike.

Females Bathroom needs an overhaul...paint peeling, private stalls are not private , shower stall has clear undersized shower curtain . Most of camp areas are mud piles....picnic tables are pathetic..... 70 bucks a night can stay at air BNB. We love the outdoors and love to camp...needs help....

Really nice campsite right next to creek. It has a great fire pit, steps down to the creek, ample parking, plenty of space for tents, and nice tables.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
