Site 8 was so lovely. It felt very private

This was a beautiful little campground on the Sauk River. We stayed in campsite 14 which was right on the river. We loved listening to the rushing sound of the river. The campsites on the River are close together but everyone was respectful of sound and the rushing River helped, too. No cell service at all (which we loved!). Campground was clean. Remember- no water anywhere in the campground so bring in what you need. Darrington is a 40-minute drive.

Brought my 3 sons here with me, age 11-15. It is a good campground for bringing kids. Most the campsites are quite close together, but that helped the boys feel more comfortable being out in the wilderness. River was too fast to go swimming in, but still was nice to wade in. Plenty of mosquitos (as expected), so bring repellent. Many nearby trails and hikes. We had a great time overall!

We really enjoyed our stay at Bedal Campground. We spent two nights at site 17 and one night at sites 12/13 with another couple. We came with an E-Series campervan and they tent camped with their VW GTI. The Mountain Loop Highway is an incredibly scenic drive, but you do spend about 8 miles (coming from either direction) on dirt/gravel roads with washboard and pot-holes which takes a long time - and which is why I mention which vehicles we brought. Folks seemed capable of getting to site and to the nearby trailheads without high-clearance vehicles (in summer, no rain). The campsites were clustered together so a bit less private, but there were barely any other campers there during our stay so we found it all quite peaceful and secluded. The sites were tidy and the bathroom was clean (for what it is). TP was provided in the bathroom, and there were bear-resistant trash cans and food storage lockers. A fire ban was in effect but we noticed the sites had fire pits with grills. We were able to see salmon up-close in the river and did many scenic hikes nearby (Vesper, Goat Lake, Monte Carlo).

Beautiful campsite, well kept, private and next to the river. The road is not the best to get there but its worth it.

Great location, river is beautiful. The campsites at the southern end of the campground next to the water would be the best here (as with most campgrounds). We stayed in the middle of the campground in the 'upper' area, but it still was fine, quiet, and with great vault toilets (if there can be anything great about a vault toilet). Excellent base for day hikes up to Goat Lake, as well as the Monte Cristo trails.

The campground is very little and private. The bugs werent too bad and bathroom conditions were decent. More than half of the spots were empty, Although reserved. Fortunately it wasnt 16 miles of gravel, but there are large potholes and rocks so take it slow. The campsites vary tremendously in size and layout and several wouldnt be suitable for an RV or multiple tents. Great accessibility to the river and trials nearby.
@AnneliseEDCE15 · Camped on Jul 7, 2023 at Campsite #2
There are only 5 campsites by the river.

Beautiful spot, very isolated and quiet, it was hard to get to but worth it. If it wasnt for the constant swarm of mosquitoes I would give it 5 stars. Definitely recommend bringing your own collection of anti-bug supplies.

The road getting there was TERRIBLE, almost impassable. Potholes covered the width of the road for miles getting there. There needs to be repair or at least a warning to drivers about the road condition. We stayed only one of our three nights.

Bedal is a lovely small campground with most sites offering privacy, and a few by the river. Reservations are required to get a decent site. Bathrooms are in good condition, and most sites now have bear boxes.

Stayed for two weeknights in the summer. Campground in general is very secluded and off the beaten path. Riverfront sites are pretty close together and you will definitely be in sight-range of your neighbors, and hearing-range if they are loud ones. The site is on the river - though access for this site in particular has a small level change in order to reach the similarly small beach area. It's large enough for a couple camp chairs though. Site 12 seemed to have the best sandy beach area and river access, but also lacked any sort of privacy and is particularly close to Site 13. If you were a group who needed or wanted two campsites - that might be the ideal setup.

We stayed at campsite 4 which was pretty well located and worked well for our needs. As other reviews have mentioned there are a ton of mosquitos and we had it pretty bad even with deet, but it's outside so it is what it is. We had no issues with road noise or dust, pretty quiet while we were there

Excellent location and close to a great waterfall and old growth stand of cedars!

I was here one overnight during the middle of the week in August. Several sites were unoccupied including two right next to me on the river. Vault toilet was clean (as vault toilets go), paper was provided, and bear-proof trash cans were a nice amenity. Some sites nearer the road might have more traffic noise but by the river it felt like I was alone and the gentle rapids and an occasional crow were all I heard. The riverfront sites were close together with little brush between, so be prepared for possibility of a noisy group of children or party-goers within visual and hearing range. Most sites seem a little small for anything more than a tent and one vehicle, others had room for a couple vehicles and more than one family/group size tents; a couple sites looked close together for multiple family set ups. The riverfront is mostly rocky, challenging ankle and knee strength, and there are only a couple sandy places - I can imagine on weekends the sandy spots suitable for a lawn chair would be in hot demand (every site had reservation signs posted for the upcoming weekend!). The massive old growth cedars scattered around the campground are fabulous and add to the ambiance and reminder that WE are the visitors to a river and forest that has been here looong before our lifetimes - we all have a duty to protect and preserve the great trees, the river quality, and keep nice spaces like Bedal and others clean, safe and open for public use. Recreation.gov was super easy to use and provides the basic amount of information to pick a site, but upgrades to show individual campsite pics would be helpful.

Place was beautiful and well maintained but our site - site 15, was a shared parking area with site 16. When we made the reservation it said we could fit a trailer or RV. Luckily our trailer is small and we were able to fit our car side by side so the people in site 16 could park their car. It would be helpful if pictures were included. Other guests were loud, blasting music and shining bright lights in our direction and the majority of campers had fires despite the strict ban. A sheriff did drive by but there isn’t anyone checking in on campers. It is a really beautiful site and worth going, the river is right there, as long as you have nice neighbors!

Nice campsite but was a little dirty when we set up camp. Could use a receptacle for recycled containers/paper.

Dustbowl with no privacy. This site is level with and next to the road, so your privacy is nill; except the cars are usually going 30+, which helps, but that also means that every 10-30 min you and your gear are covered in a fresh cloud of dust. We pretty much spent our time at the site in our tent playing cards with our toddler, and then faced having to literally wash all our gear once we got home.

Campsite was clean when we arrived, the bathrooms have been upgraded since I last stay at Bedal.

Nice sites however no way to get emergency help if necessary. A little concerning

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
