Very nice rustic cabin. Reasonably priced stay. Abundant wildlife near cabin. Atv opportunities near. It was a very nice stay to unplug for a week long sabbatical to get re-connected with God in His creation . Very quiet and peaceful atmosphere .Met a wonderful woman of God while climbing medicine bow peak as well. Hope to come visit again Lord willing.

We enjoyed the stay, its beautiful location with basic facilities and clear instructions. Calm serene sound from the nearby creek was wonderful experience.

Incredible cabin with everything we needed and nothing that we didn't. It is easy to get to and find, the stove is SO WARM and there is great access to phenomenal skiing terrain just outside the door. The mattresses are a little rough but better than sleeping on the cold ground! Bring water if it is the winter - melting snow is a huge pain.

We've stayed in several of over snow access winter cabins, and this is by far my favorite. Exactly one mile from the parking area, it can be accessed on foot if need (groomed snowmobile trail). The solar electric lights are very nice, as is the gas stove and heat as it is so much easier than wood.

Great Hiking Area

We really enjoyed reading about the history of the cabin. The solar lighting was adequate. As it was a couple of nights in the mid-twenties, getting the propane heater to light is imperative! The knobs on the heater are difficult to see...possibly someone should paint the numbers white. If the rate next year is increased to $80 or higher, possible water could be included in some fashion. Someone has gone to great lengths to provide the "basics." We made great memories...we love Medicine Bow National Forest.

Awesome cabin for our group of 4! We had everything we needed for our stay and had a great time enjoying the view. The only issue was the extremely muddy conditions due to the melting snow, but that is to be expected around this time of year.

Everything that can be expected in a remote mountain cabin in an area with 7 feet of snow. Warm and mouse free.

Easy to get to as the road is not closed as far back as we thought. The road to the cabin is packed down and our snowshoes were great. There are a lot of snowmobiles in the area, so just be aware and make sure they can see you! There was a TON of snow and we had to shovel out the bathroom and cabin upon arrival but everything we needed was there. The only problem we had was that the propane heater ran out of propane as soon as we went to sleep for the night which made it quite a cold miserable night, but when it was running the heater heated up the space very well and it was enjoyable.

The cabin was great but my communication with forest service was terrible. The person on the phone told me I could drive from Laramie- INCORRECT! The closest parking is on the Saratoga side. She also said there might be six inches of snow- not enough to ski. There was 8 FEET of snow, and I had to ski to the outhouse! Luckily I was prepared for an adventure.

Great! Keep it rustic, like it is

We LOVED this cabin. It's very basic and in the winter under a lot of snow. There was 2 ft. of untracked snow and it was amazing. It took us about 45 min. with snowshoes to walk the mile and about 30 min. on the way down. The furnace is tricky to start so don't get discouraged. It takes the cabin a bit to warm up. We brought down booties to wear inside and it was absolutely amazing. We also brought some Clorox wipes just in case but everything was in excellent condition and clean. We will absolutely be back!

Family of four spent 2 nights here. In late Sept 2022. The fall colors were beautiful, weather was perfect. Clear skies, highs of 55 and lows of 26. When lighting the oven pilot, make sure to lift the stove top up first and light the 2 stove pilots first. We had no issues with the cabin or it’s equipment, all worked great for us. The solar lights work very well and operate just as of the cabin had electricity, lit it more then good enough for our needs. Others have reported having issues with the bathroom key, but we had none. Would gladly stay again.

Great quiet destination, close to numerous trails and sights in the Snowy Range. The cabin has a gas stove, a gas heater, limited cooking pots, 4 bunks and a table. The FS road leading to the cabin may be used by other campers looking to boondock. The bathroom was clean and it is locked so there is no public access.

This is as basic a cabin as you can have which is appealing to many. It's located just off the highway which makes it easy to be able to explore & hike the numerous trails in the area, which is spectacular.

The cabin is pretty rustic, but certainly functional. The Snowies are an extraordinarily scenic area. The main problem for us was that we suffered altitude sickness. We had been fine at 8,500' in Colorado, but 10,300 was difficult. It might be nice if NFS could install some kind of outdoor dish and other washing facility with a drain field. Stocks of toilet paper and all kinds of things in the cupboards were appreciated!

Great cabin. Beautiful area. Easy access.

Great cabin for XC skiing, beautiful views, and seclusion. We entered from the west side of WY 130, only about a 1 mile ski in. Fairly primitive, bring your own soap and lighter.
@SaraD565 · Camped on Oct 25, 2021 at Campsite #1
It was perfection! It snowed the whole time we were there, the quietness, the warmth of the cabin, cooking family meals and just having a disconnect from the world in general. Amazing! The beds were comfy, the place was clean and big enough for myself, my parents, and my not quite 2 year old daughter. Even though we packed what we needed it was neat people had left things like unused food, toilet paper, coffee. It felt like home away from home. I will definitely be booking again.

Great location and very well kept cabin. Perfect for the secluded get away most of us need. Definitely planning on coming back soon.
@ChristinaC745 · Camped on Sep 1, 2021 at Campsite #1
All the electric lights were burned out, so the solar panels were worthless. Could not get the heater to light, even manually (and I checked all of the propane valves were on). We used the propane stove burners for heat. The oven would not light. I had to go to Saratoga to purchase propane mantles for the lights (2 of the 4 lights were broken and unusable). Cabin was not very clean when we arrived, and one mattress cover was ripped to shreds as though a mad bear slept in it and had nightmares (probably because of the cabin conditions). The fire pit was nice and the previous tenants were courteous enough to leave some kindling. Definitely a rustic experience.

Needs some new pots and pans and silverware (no forks). The mattresses need replacing as well. Otherwise it's great

Great cabin, so easy to use. Our only complaint was that it's located a little closer to the highway than you expect. Not too loud, but you can tell there are cars nearby,
@JonM351 · Camped on Aug 5, 2019 at Campsite #1
Visited in August and it was beautiful. Saw lots of elk in the back pasture in the evenings. Cabin was well appointed and clean. Didn’t sleep on the beds and opted for an air mattress in the middle of the room. Great start of a vacation for my daughter and me.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
