Great camp sites, fire pits are the best. Vault toilets extremely clean. Reservoir was a pleasure to swim and paddleboard on. All in all, a wonderful experience. One note - you have to carry your trash out of the site as it is too far off the road for garbage collection. Lots of deer and wildlife. 10 out of 10 for the whole experience! Thanks for keeping the camp sites so clean!

Beautiful views, clean campsites and all our neighbors were considerate people. Also got to see a beaver in the lake right in front of our spot!

Do NOT use google maps. Use the directions provided for this campsite by recreation.gov. GAIA.GPS would be useful here. I was towing a small camper with low clearance in my wifes Bronco Sport using google maps to direct me. Started out on a gravel road and then took a left up geyser pass off 2 mile road (2 mile road is off the 91 near La Sal) for 1000 ft that was all she wrote. It soon turned into a narrow ATV trail. Had to back down a deeply rutted, rocky trail with the trailer bottoming out every few yards until I could find a place to turn around. Not fun. We ended up boondocking nearby which turned out to be awesome, 7 cows invaded our site near dusk to graze and drink from the watering hole. Made for a perfect evening.

First, this spot was challenging to get to and the directions provided in the site description were not as clear as they could be nor overly helpful and accurate. My Apple Maps did end up getting me there correctly, but crossing private property was odd as normally you would not be allowed to do so. You will be driving on a windy gravel road for an hour either way you enter, so be aware of that. Second, during my third night, someone took my spot. When I told the campsite host, (although he was very kind and tried to be helpful) I was told they were full for the night and there was nothing he could do about it and I was basically shit out of luck. Again, this is a remote spot and to my knowledge, not near any other campsites or BLM land. He allowed me to basically park my car on the road in the campsite for the night. On the plus side, I saw a lot of dear and the forest itself is gorgeous. I probably would not visit this campsite again though.

Very nice campground in the ponderosa pines. June so full of water. Quiet as it was pre-July 4. Very clean restrooms.

Beautiful area. The lake was full which was a bonus after the last couple of years. There didn’t seem to be many fish in the lake. We fished hard for three days and managed to catch one fish . Fun mountain bike ride above the lake .

Be prepared for when they say dirt road, what they actually mean is mud two track that is damn near impassable unless you have a 4x4. Our car couldn't get down it and we had to turn around and stay in a hotel in Grand Junction. I am all for remote camping, but they really need to be more clear about getting there. I'm sure the campground itself was lovely but it would have been nice to actually see it.

Buckeye Reservoir is very remote. Make sure you fill up with Gas in Moab, Monticello or Naturita, CO. A good part of U5 - the road in is graded dirt. There are many switch backs which means slowing to almost a stop. If you are towing a trailer you will want to have 4 wheel drive so that your tires don't slip as you try to get going after each curve. The campground itself is quiet. There are long gravel pads and a couple of pull throughs. Plenty of space between sites It is so remote that we saw a lot of birds on the ride in and at the camp ground. There is no water or garbage cans. There are vault toilets. Don't request sites 1-2 as they are very overgrown. The camp ground only charges $15 for a spot. There is a lot of dispersed camping just beyond the camp ground.

Campsites are extremely clean and well kept. Camp host was very nice. It is quite a drive to Buckeye, but worth it if planning to stay for at least 2 nights. The Moab FS office was not helpful when I contacted them regarding lake level. I was told "about the same." Same as what? The water level was very low when we were there in mid July 2022- they was no easy lake access from any campsites.

No dense shade in the middle of the day Forest Service cut down to many trees. Group site needs pavilion over tables sun shines on tables almost all day no shade. Almost no water in lake. Camp hosts are great , very nice place, very dry.

First time visit, the area is very beautiful and peaceful. The reservoir water was lower than expected, however we were able to SUP and go fishing with a small fishing boat as permitted. The reservoir was well-stocked. The Park Rangers were very friendly and helpful. We had reservations at 2 campsites; once we arrived, we chose a different site entirely (one that was not reserved). We never saw the camp host; no one greeted us or stopped by to check on the site. Bathrooms were clean; other campers in the area were quiet and friendly. Fire restrictions were a bummer, but understood.

This was a great place to camp. The wife and I spent the week exploring around the Telluride/Ouray area, but also wanted to ride in moab as well. It's a little closer to Moab than Telluride, but perfect for 4x4 fun. Right beside the Rim Rocker Trail. A lot of other roads and trails to ride around there as well. Could've used a good mowing while we were there. All in all great place we loved it, would recommend it to anyone. Oh for what it's worth there's free range cattle there. We was expecting to encounter a bear being out in the middle of nowhere but we didn't... Did the cows play a part in that? How do they keep bears from eating the cows? But, I'd think a bear would like a delicious cow more than a human? I mean I don't know I'm from the part of Arkansas where we don't have bears so DO NOT and I repeat DO NOT take my ramblings as a "we're safe from bears here". I hope your stay here was as pleasant and peaceful as ours. Ah two other things, there are no trash dumpsters, and yes technically Paradox is the closest town but be aware there are no stores of any sort in Paradox, Naturita is actually the closest town (in Colorado roughly a 30 minute drive) to the buckeye recreation area.

Great secluded. Camp host keeps everything super nice and very helpful. Used this as a base camp to see Moab area. Roads are very tricky for a large RV Call Moab ranger station to find the best way in. Never follow google maps they will get you stranded and stuck. No cell service so be prepared for that.

Couldn't get there. We were trying to arrive from the north, through gateway. After crossing into Utah, the roads became incredibly slick from the light rain in the area. We pushed on, but could not complete the journey. May have been ok, if we went from paradox in the south. Next time we'll try that route. If there is any rain, don't even think about going from the north.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
