Love the secluded location and the horse trails were really nice with a mix of fairly easy and somewhat challenging trails. I was disappointed that 3 of the 4 equestrian campsites were taken by people without horses. They can literacy camp at any of the multiple spots but those of us with horses are limited to the 4 horse sites and if those are taken by non-horse people we have no other options. Would really like to see those sites set aside for horse use only.

Beautiful and spacious campground. Water and electrical was reliable and the loop was recently repaved. There are bathrooms on site (no plumbing) and no bathhouse. We thought the bathrooms were well maintained contrary to other reviews. Good hikes nearby and the drive to the Mammouth Cave visiter center was very short via the ferry. The cave tours are excellent and I highly recommend the extended history tour.

We had the place to ourselves in mid September. Quiet, peaceful, with good electric hook-up. Recommended!

Clean, quite newly paved level spots lots of shade and walking trails. 20/30/50 and domestic water large concrete picnic tables and very nice fire rings easy to adjust for cooking.

When we booked the campground, we were traveling and not familiar with the area at all. We knew there were not full hookups, but have never been to a campground before that didn't at least have shower houses if hookups were not available. There was also not a dump station to use unless we drove 50 minutes around the park to get to it, as you could not take campers on the ferry. In the heat and humidity of summer, it would have been nice to be able to take showers. At least we only spent 2 nights there. Lesson learned for sure.

Maple Springs has very large campsites, which is a nice bonus. But what they don't tell you is that campsite #4 is on a steep hill which means if you are in a tent there are not many places to put a tent easily. What was not pleasant about Maple Springs were the outhouses. There were 4 outhouses and each one was just as bad as the next one. They were so dirty that a person would be thinking that they were going to be getting a disease from using them. There was fecal matter all over the tube going down to the pit. The stench was so bad that while you were 20 yards away, on the road, you could smell it. The doors did not lock on two of them by the way that they designed the openings for the locks. And one of them had a snake in it. We were there for two days and no one came to clean or inspect the campground or the outhouses. Really they looked and smelled like they have not been cleaned in a very long time.

Nice quiet campground. Be aware that if the Green River is high the ferry closes to vehicles with trailers. Would recommend if you want an out of the way campground.

Great site with trails adjacent to area. The Ferry Crossing is an adventure!

The trailer sites are angled the wrong way. You need to enter the campground through the entrance with the sign do not enter. While pulling out of the campground to back up on the main road (hoping no traffic would come), I cut the turn too sharp and my wheels went into the ditch and hit the stone culvert. Had to get a welder to come out and repair my trailer.

We stayed in the Maple Springs campground. They recently paved so sights are level. Very remote and secluded. Only a a few other sites at location, so very peaceful. Beautiful hiking and biking trail right at entrance. Be aware, if driving RV need to go around park (adds 45 minutes) to get to visitor center and dump station. If have car, can take ferry which only takes about 20 minutes. Did not bother us-but just be sure to plan accordingly. Great location and cave tour was amazing! Highly recommend.

Beautiful park with lots of hiking opportunities and a pretty posh welcome center that serves as HQ for all of the amazing cave tours offered. I was a little disappointed that it was primitive toilets only at the maple springs campsites. Although they were clean and plenty of them, the only bath house is near the visitor center. You have to take a ferry across the green river, two cars at a time, to get there. The ferry is quaint, and pretty quick, and free, but it closes around 6pm and its a 45 min drive to bypass it. It would be so much nicer to have 1 bath house at the campsites. As for the campsites, they were nicely spaced and roomy but has a lot of mud spots that could use some mulch or gravel. Lastly, there were a lot of downed trees on the trails. Every one we went on as a matter of fact. I recommend bringing a small saw or hatchet if possible to help clear some of these paths. I also recommend donating to and supporting the national parks service who have been severely underfunded for decades but more so in the last decade. With more help this park could be IMMACULATE!

This review has two parts to it: pre getting into the park, and post getting into the park. First, getting to the park was a challenge. The directions on the website for how to avoid the ferry were clear enough and we were able to find it just fine, but it is a total hassle to go so far out of the way to get in. It added easily an hour to the trip. Once we were in, the campsite was nice enough! We appreciated the flat parking space. There were only a few other campers, which made us feel really remote which we appreciated. The trails were clearly marked, which is also a huge plus. We didn't make it to the caves, so all we really saw was forest. That's fine, but not sure that alone was worth the trek to get to the campground. Not sure we'd visit again because of it!

1) With the Ferry being closed it took about 50 Minutes to get to the campground from the Visitor Center, so should plan for that. 2) Would have been nice to have a shower house at the campground. 3) With the one-way requirement of the campground loop and not being able to move the picnic tables, our site was very difficult to back into if you have a longer rig. 4) The Mammoth Cave Tour that we took was excellent.

We arrived late to find one of our sites occupied by squatters since no reserved notice was posted. So we occupied one site as we originally desired but forced to reserve an additional site due to our number of occupants. This merely demonstrates their occupants restrictions is about money. The restrooms were so disgusting, several chose not to enter due to the horrible smell. They did refund a portion of our money but only a portion.

We didn’t know that we would have to cross the green river ferry when coming in from the south entrance. So we wasted about 2 driving hours that could have been avoided had we known. Our camper didn’t fit on the Ferry and we arrived 15 minutes after it closed. Closes at 6pm. I am only posting in hopes that others see this and avoid that mistake. We had to drive around to the north entrance.

The site itself was nice. We had multiple tents and this site wasn't the most level. Also, we arrived at 7pm and the ferry closed at 6pm. Not a nice surprise. We had to drive over an hour around in the dark. We made the best out of a not enjoyable situation.

We enjoyed our experience at this campground. Although a group campground, we didn’t hear anything from the other campers and enjoyed the ‘off the grid’ setup.

Everything was fine. Overall, the park hasn’t invested much in their campsites. While the group sites at Maple Springs have power and water, unlike all the others, they don’t have a good (flushing or heated) bathroom or showers. The ferry is inaccessible to RVs so they have to go all the way around the park (40 minutes) to get to the dump stations. All in all it was a nice time but we’ve stayed at way better campsites.

Overall, we really enjoyed this campground but there are some things we wish we would have known ahead of time. First, there is no one to check in with when you arrive. No guard shack or anything. We arrived after dark so this was a surprise to us and we just had to figure it out. It wasn’t bad, just unexpected. The next thing, it’s DARK at night. No really, there were only 3 or 4 other campers on the grounds while we were there and at night, it was very dark out there without street lights around the campground. Lastly, we selected this campground due to the proximity to Mammoth Cave which according to GPS said it would take us 6-10 minutes to get there. In actuality, the ferry road was closed so we had to go all the way around and it took more like 45 minutes to get to the visitor center. Not a huge deal but it was just unexpected. With all that said, I would stay here again because it was super quiet and away from everything.

Enjoyed our stay at Maple Springs group camp site. We done some tent camping but utilized the Power connection for lights and some other stuff also. Was great experience for the kids. We ended up leaving before the second night though. Wish you could reserve half days or something for those that don’t want to stay a full two days but need more time to pack up the second.

There is nothing at this camp ground. It’s very overgrown and sites are hard to park in.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
