Beautiful campsite surrounded by tall pine trees and you can even hear the river in the distance when it gets quiet. Highly recommend!

Great campground!

The only reason I can't give 5 stars is because some guy stole our reserved spot on our first night. We reserved Thursday night knowing we would have a long drive and would like a reserved spot we knew we could arrive to and sleep in our car when we got there. After an 8 hour drive, some guy was parked in our spot from 10:45pm-the next morning when WE had to kick him out because WE wanted to set up OUR site. When I requested for a refund for that night through Recreation.gov it was declined. The campground was quiet and beautiful, the ranger we spoke with was friendly, there's a nearby market and backcountry wilderness. Just an unfortunate start to a beautiful trip.

The parking area at Site 75 is a little further away from the firepit and tent site, probably due to a fallen tree. Otherwise all was fine.

We've camped around the world. Sentinel rates as one of the very best. Well worth the long drive in!
@FrankC6237095 · Camped on Oct 15, 2024 at Campsite #51
Despite the HAPPY fire I enjoyed my time at Sentinel. I was in space 51 and the closest bathrooms mens toilet was out of order. I also was unsure of how to contact and NP employees with questions since the office was closed.
@MichaelL540355 · Camped on Oct 14, 2024 at Campsite #76
The Happy Fire was close and the smoke was pretty bad. I found my campsite and was very uncomfortable after only a minute outside. Left Kings Canyon immediately. I will try again next year.

The campground was lovely, could see the stars really well when we went, and it was walkable to the nearby market for any extras. The only thing is that there wasn't any toilet paper in the women's bathroom, but we came prepared with some from our trip. The ranger on call was very helpful and let us know about the active bears in the area. Absolutely beautiful area and would love to stay here again in the future!

We had an amazing weekend experience. The park and bathrooms were clean. The rangers were friendly and knowledgeable. The other campers were respectful of quiet hours and for the first time ever, we didnt see any bears in the campground.

Long drive to get there, but nice campground with pretty good space.
@AungT991D61C27 · Camped on Oct 6, 2024 at Campsite #8
It was a nice and peaceful campground with lots of tree shade and plenty of space. Everything went well. The only thing missing is that there is no electricity/light in restrooms.
@StephenM951052 · Camped on Oct 6, 2024 at Campsite #1
Exactly what was expected. Site was large, clean, and as described. Better tree cover than the other grounds Id stayed in at Cedar Grove in KCNP.
@KorinaG7C5950D · Camped on Oct 4, 2024 at Campsite #57
Stayed for 2 nights. #57 is perfect and beautiful. Big campsite that can prolly fit 3 tents. We arrived at 4 am but somebody was occupying are campsite but looks like they left before sunrise. Campground was quiet and we had a good time. Theres a lot of bees and mosquitoes and flies at this time in October. Park ranger checks the campers but restrooms were dirty. Stayed from friday until sunday noon time but no one cleans the restroom especially the restroom next to site 22. Sink inside both men and womens is clogged, toilet paper all over the floor. We were able to swim in the river. No smoke eventhough theres wildfire alert. No bear encounter too. Campground is almost 1 hr drive from Grant Grove Village and theres no cell coverage so plan ahead.

Despite camping late enough into fall to miss the Cedar Village Visitor Center and camp store being open, we had a great stay at the Sentinel Campground. Our site was spacious and included the standard picnic table, fire ring, and bear box and was also close to restrooms (very clean!) and trash/recycling. Sites here are pretty close together and open enough that you can see and be seen by all of your neighbors, but that didn't take away from the delight of being surrounded by massive evergreens and a clear view of the night sky! Also loved the proximity to the Roaring River Falls!

The lake at Muir at end of Roads End was an excellent place to swim and jump from the cliff. The kids loved it. Water is cold, though, but clear and fresh

Location and Campsite is great apart from the restrooms, which were barely usable. Looks like they were cleaned weeks ago, but luckily there were no lights so you could almost ignore the filthyness. Sink was clogged and no soap.
@WesudaJ69F9B40 · Camped on Sep 30, 2024 at Campsite #11
The campsite was spacious, with a good distance between sites, providing plenty of privacy. The ground was flat, making it easy to set up camp. We enjoyed a beautiful view by the river, which was very peaceful. The bathrooms were clean and well-maintained, and there were water taps near the campsite, which was convenient. Overall, it was a great experience

Nice campground, lots of trees and shade. We stayed more to the center of the campground but campsites on the near river and stream have a nice sound to wake up too. Restrooms were not the best, no light in them it goes dark its dark. Showers are behind the market. Only campground open at the moment, hopefully the rest open next year.

This trip was plan B after the big wild fire up north near Lassen Volcanic NP, our original plan. Stayed here for 4 days on site 46. This particular site is on a weird angle from the road, had to do a few moves to back in. Site is pretty big but site 45 is very close. I believe this site (45) is an emergency site they use for people that can fit there RV in other sites. Restrooms were close but they were not in the best condition. I love the many trees, plenty of shade. We did encounter a bear on the road the first day driving in. Showers were only a 10 minute walk behind the cedar grove market. Pretty clean and well kept. Make sure to get your token at the Market before going to the shower. It was $1.50 per token for 5 minutes. They have 4 showers available open from 7 to 8, closed around 2 for cleaning. The drive was great. I will recommend getting the outer site near the stream or river if you like the sound of running water. Sentinel is the only campground open at the moment because of the damage the other neighboring site were damaged from the big snow storm from last year. We did have some rude neighbors that were very loud till 3 in the morning one night. Probably a family of 40. Some how they got 2 warning ticket😏 Reservation was easy to get a month prior. Fill your tank with gas to be on the safe side. The only issue I had was the signage was difficult to read or see if not paying attention to get to the site. I went around 2 times till i found the right entrance to get to the site

Sentinel is a fantastic campground and was very clean and the camp host were great! The hike up to the Mist Falls was one of our highlights and we had camp fires every night? I highly recommend this campground to experience the canyon and the wilderness!

The campground is clean and the sites generous. One of the restrooms (nearest our site) was out of order which was inconvenient. The real magic though is hiking. You won't see the wonder of Kings Canyon until you hike one of the longer hikes. There you will find the quintessential Sierra majesty.
@MamaBear0D3C8D · Camped on Sep 6, 2024 at Campsite #19
Campsite was amazing. 19 is a huge site with plenty of room to spread out. Just one thing, a steady flow of people kept cutting right through our site to get to the river and back to their site and would walk within 2 feet of our picnic table while we were eating. It was pretty rude and disrespectful. I finally blocked the path and made them go around.
@LarryP2778475 · Camped on Sep 5, 2024 at Campsite #23
I've visited King's Canyon for over 40 years and visits. Always like the convenience of Sentinel campground. Close to Visitor Center, Market & Showers. On the river and one side has Sheep Creek which is lovely in the springtime.Plenty of options for sites, with or without trees, some more private than others. I like #23 myself.Plenty of trailheads nearby and others a short drive. Take motor trail on other side of river if you have appropriate vehicle. I prefer May but have been there in the fall also. Be prepared for small face flies and/or mosquitos seasonally. And it can be very very hot down there too. It was 93+ in early Sept.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
