9/10 Pretty much had the place to ourselves! Just us, a few jack rabbits, lizards and the towering monzogranite rock formations. Not exactly flat and small area for tent but was well equipped and perfectly situated for excellent star-gazing! Only a bit of shade in the evening and early morning (at least in late August), however.

Indian Cove is a minimalistic campground, but the environment is very dramatic. The campsites are small and often nestled against rock walls. Some of the sites ae quite close to others. Don't expect any amenities other than very clean restrooms with pit toilets. Go there to see the fantastic rock formations and to scramble among them. The night sky is dark enough for a glorious view of the Milky Way. If you haven't yet been to Joshua Tree National Park, Indian Cove is a great introduction to nan other-worldly landscape.

An excellent spot to go camping, especially if you like bouldering! I have family who does it so definitely gonna recommend it to them! The breeze helped a lot in keeping cool, the site had some leftover stuff from the previous group but thats definitely not on the park, and the spot was wonderful to watch the Meteor Shower!

Campsite 12 is hella secluded. DO NOT CHOOSE A CAMPSITE THAT IS NEXT TO THE VAULT TOILET. THOSE SMELL HOOOOOORIBLE!!!!The rocks next to the campsite are nice to climb :)

I recently stayed at Indian Cove Campground, and I must say, the natural beauty was absolutely breathtaking. The rock formations and desert landscape provided a stunning backdrop, making it a photographers paradise. The nights were serene, with clear skies perfect for stargazing.However, despite the scenic surroundings, I couldnt shake a feeling of unease throughout my stay. The campsite felt too open and exposed, which made me worry about safety, especially at night. While I understand that camping inherently involves some level of risk, the layout of the campground made it difficult to feel secure. There was a lingering sense of vulnerability, as if I might need to defend myself from potential threats, whether human or otherwise.Overall, while I thoroughly enjoyed the natural beauty and peacefulness of the area, the lack of a secure atmosphere was a significant downside. I believe some additional measures, such as better lighting or clearer guidelines for campers, could greatly enhance the experience. Despite these concerns, I would still recommend Indian Cove Campground for its scenic beauty and unique desert experience, but with a cautionary note for those who value a greater sense of security.

Nice small site with great scrambling opportunities behind the site. Pit toilets that were clean.

While the website does show a beautiful campsite be aware at space 35 and others that are vault toilets a little too close for comfort, and in some months can be off-putting and noisy. There are no amenities besides this be sure to bring plenty of water and stay hydrated as this is desert country. While technically in the park, this campsite is a bit out-of-the-way for those that are looking for an immersive experience to the park. The sunset views and the night sky viewing the stars were benefits to the stay.

Awesome spot to camp and go rock climbing right behind it. Although it was extremely hot a canopy and some water buckets did the trick. Highly recommend taking an inflatable pool if you take young ones or for yourself during the month of June.

My favorite place to camp.

Private and quiet. Great site to see the stars. It was well kept. Dumpster bin is walking distance. Did not use the restroom there, but read reviews that toilets are non-flushable. Will definitely book this site again when the weather is cooler.

This is a very nice campground to camp and the surroundings are beautiful. I just cant understand why theres no water. Its not far from the town so to bring water in wouldve made this five star.

First time going to Indian cove / joshua tree - Very beautiful spot, toilets - no water, bare bones. We seemed to not have done proper research and was about 1 hour drive from the hiked we were wanting to do. There were some close(ish) but seemed farther away than we expected. Nothing bad for the campsite, just please do research before on what you plan/want to do!

Awesome location. Spot 22 worked great for our 35 ft 5th wheel and even had room to park the truck. There are not many spaces in the park that looked big enough for us. Minus one star for the inadequate generator hours to charge our batteries. 5 to 7 PM at night was just not enough to get us through the night.
@LouieL2899EE23 · Camped on May 13, 2024 at Campsite #36
I wish I was 20 years younger so I should scramble up those beautiful boulders. We saw our first Chuckwalla and a 2 foot long rattler (crossing the road at dusk) and a Desert iguana. The sun is relentless on clear days. Our canopy helped us tolerate the burn.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
