We enjoyed our visit to the Black Rock Joshua Tree campground and were in site 90. Thankfully, we have a campervan and we're able to park there. This would NOT be a good site for anything larger than our 25 foot unit.The only thing was that the power was out and the bathroom lights were dark. Also, we tried to visit the Visitor's center and it was closed. Otherwise, it was fine. Site 90 is definitely not level, but , we managed to find a spot because we are so small. Entrance to many of the sites there are very challenging especially to vehicles that have to cross over high curbs. It can be an issue with vehicles that have a lower clearance like our van, be careful.

Overall nice campground in a very scenic area. However, while there we experienced a lack of toilet paper in the mens restroom the entire time we were there, we left some for everyone when we departed. The lights in the restroom also were set on timers that didnt match the sunrise/sunset, with one tiny window, it made for dark conditions. Finally the parking. The campground is on a slope and the sites have not been leveled and have serious erosion rills and gullies due to lack of runoff controls. Made for leveling our rented RV quite difficult.

Friendly ranger, clean bathroom, good views and access to kid-friendly hiking. Desert cottontail and road runner sighting.

Note: The Roads are not that bad! They're not good, but unless you're in a Class A pusher they should be fine. I loved Black Rock! Beautiful campground and we had a beautiful site. The place is pretty worn down in general; the roads are rough and the bathrooms are too, but it's still serviceable. Worth a trip!

Really enjoyed all the unique rock formations in the park. We also enjoyed a constellation presentation given one evening while there.

Our site was too close to others and offered no privacy. The abundance of the nature and the trail network easily accessible from the campground were the highlights of our stay.

The front desk was very welcoming. They had a star observation event that was awesome!!!

We loved that the sites were far enough apart to afford privacy but yet we had modern bathrooms

Last minute, one night stayover. This was the only Joshua Tree campground that could accept my 24' motorhome, so I took it.Full house on site, but very quiet with lots of family groups enjoying the site. Arrived after office closed but stopped by in AM to make sure they did not need to check my res. Delightful staff in house.All good.

We enjoyed our trip and the hikes around this area. Its a bit of a drive into the main park area from here but a nice drive. With the limited generator hours it would be nice to have some electric site options, especially with long days out in the park, but we managed. It would also be helpful to have the roads be labeled and one way to help with the flow of traffic with big RVs. Our site was big and relatively flat (enough). Site 007.

Site 47. Nice campsite, spacious. Campground could use better signage to locate sites. Had to drive around on rutted roads with trailer to locate sites bathroom was in good condition and visitor center in campground was nice with friendly staff. Has dump station but found it by accident because of poor signage.

I would just recommend that if a campsite is not level that it be shown or communicated to a potential client before the reservation is made, rather than after. We had a good time. Everyone respected the hours of operation for generators. The facilities were clean.

We stayed in site 57. Overall a nice campground with many sites nestled under the stands of Joshua trees. Be aware that the center sites (at least in vicinity of 57) are mostly open with no definition between sites. Great if your group wants multiple sites with communal area for the kids to run around, not so much of you are hoping for privacy.

The roads in the campground are in terrible shape. The NPS, historically underfunded, hasn't got a chance to improve things with the Administration cutting funding to anything and everything that the people like and use. Very sad, as the park is just going to deteriorate more and more.
@BarbaraB381397 · Camped on Mar 13, 2025 at Campsite #15
Campground was convenient location, but rustic. Good refuge from high winds and weather. Looked like interesting hiking trails available.
@ManfredF872FD2 · Camped on Mar 13, 2025 at Campsite #96
Easy to reach, not so overbooked, access to the lesser known areas of the park which are equally nice and still the main park is reached in about 30 minutes. It was quiet and relaxed while the central park looked very busy to me.
@DanielW5233823 · Camped on Mar 11, 2025 at Campsite #76
A beautiful setting. Many of the sites are not level, but manageable. The campsite access roads have not been upgraded in many years, but manageable. Clean, quite, stars and moon were amazing. Nature Centers staff (Bill) was very informative.
@CarolB2589812 · Camped on Mar 8, 2025 at Campsite #67
We enjoyed exploring the area and the park. The roads in Black Rock Campground leave something to be desired. Some have recently been repaved, while others are seriously rutted. Some campsites are spacious while others are small and have serious erosion.
@MatthewD639755 · Camped on Mar 7, 2025 at Campsite #68
Joshua Tree is such a special place. However the BlackRock campground is shabby. Many campsites are very unlevel or have wash outs. Most of the pavement in the campground is in terrible condition. There's also no gate or other barrier to entry so anyone could come through the campground at any time. I hope to come back to Joshua Tree but I am not likely to return to BlackRock.

Besides visiting the National Park - We enjoyed visiting the Saturday Farmer's Market in Joshua Tree by the Visitor's Center!

Ok stay. Roads thru camp pretty rutted out so be careful.

We tent camped in Black Rock Campground Site 81, which was at the top of the hill and rather private. The site had some nice Joshua trees in it. The walk down to the bathroom wasnt bad, though the narrow roads getting through the campground were in need of repairs. The bathrooms were clean and we were glad to have flush toilets. It was a short drive to town and to a few other park entrances. We enjoyed our stay.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
