First time camping here. The New Shady Campground is next to the main drag into town. I was in a site thats closest to the road but noise wasnt an issue. Many sites are set further back and would be even quieter. Note that some sites arent level and some are quite short as far as parking area. Note that Old Shady Campground is set just North of this one and is flatter, with some truly deep setbacks. More RVs on that side. Overall, clean, quiet, pretty and peaceful. Bike paths abound and theres a Starbucks across the street.

It would be nice if in the website description it would say if the site was level or off level a bit. The reason I say this is because some tent campers had extremely level parking pads, and RVs did not, in particular the site that I arrived to. I was lucky enough to be able to change the site when I arrived.

Nice place to stay into the woods

The campground was great. This particular site didn't have a great level spot for larger tent. Would be nice if the bathrooms had shelves for toiletries. Great for biking, close to town, convenient, beautiful.

Campground is well maintained. Restrooms have flushing toilets and are keep clean. Campsites are fairly spread out - as as not to be on top for one another. Potable water and Dump station on site.

Good campsites with moderate shade. Bathrooms are outdated and tired and needs and update. Can be noisy at night and early morning since host managers don't enforce the rules. Good location to town and can walk or catch the free shuttle if needed.

Great sites and camp hosts!

Great shade, lack of the usual mosquitos. The drawbacks are very narrow ingress crowded by trees too close to the one-way road & large boulders that made parking my truck out of the road very difficult. Also, the adjoining Sawmill Road gets very busy, and people tend to speed on that road.The hosts were knowledgeable and friendly.

Easy to find my spot. Clean. Potable water close by. Great for a one to two day stay, but I would have needed more services (shower) for a longer stay.

Camp grounds were very clean and nice & quiet. Camp host were very friendly and always seem to be checking the grounds regularly. The one thing the campground could use is larger restrooms with more then just one toilet in the building.

We actually put together a family reunion camping trip at New Shady Rest. We used 8 campsites at New Shady Rest and 2 at Old Shady Rest.The adults and cousins had a fantastic 5 days together. There was Hiking, Mountain Biking, Water Sports at June Lake and trip into Yosemite to walk along the Tuolumne River and a Bar-B-Que at a near by relative's Cattle Ranch. We plan to do this again next summer. These campsites are situated next to open forest while being right in town. This worked perfectly for this camping croud.The older adults grew up visiting family in the near Bishop area, A lot of us skiied and Backpacked in the Sierra here many times.

Beautiful place in the wood. One thing missing as in other NP CG too: A shower!

Forget this campsite. Driveway is very steep and partially paved. Paved portion is only big enough for a passenger car. The rest is dirt and not large, also very steep. There is no place for a reasonably sized tent at the site. There are no trees, bushes or shade. All the nearby trees are cut down.

Great spot, not as shaded in the morning but perfect in the evening.

Bad signage in location of sites. Very little privacy from other campers. Kids allowed to ride dirt bikes past tent sites and played airsoft shooting games next to me. Got high centered on stump in my driveway that should not have been there. Maybe good place for kids. I left early and will never go back.

The camp spot I picked on the website did not allow our 20' foot bumper pull trailer to fit. A truck had no room for it either. I thought I picked a site that would allow the trailer and truck to fit from the website. The camp host, after a polite but persistent conversation allowed us to move to a different site as an emergency. That was much appreciated. The bathrooms were clean, staff friendly, roads in poor shape. Dump station was great. Location was fine. It's an old USFS campground that has been used a lot over time and the wear is showing.

No electricity or hooks for travel bags in the bathrooms. Many stumps from recently cut down trees made it so you had to be very careful not to trip on them. Water is easily available with buckets provided to help put out fires. The bathrooms were cleaned daily.

Nice campsite, bathroom close by. Lots of places to visit in the area for eating out, biking, swimming, hiking fishing. Had a great time; would recommend.

I loved the proximity of our campsite to the town and park! It was quiet and relaxing. My only issue was that the campsites need some love. Our firepit was filled with fire logs from previous campers.

We have stayed at New Shady Rest at least four times.We really like this campground for the easy access to bike paths and all the activities the Eastern Sierras has to offer. HOWEVER, Our latest stay was after the harvesting/logging of trees within the campground. It is still shady, a plus. But the large equipment left very uneven ground for tent camping. Lots of branches, large tree debris and tire tracks in the campsites, so I advise to bring a heavy duty rake to create yourself a nice place to set up your tent.. If you don't have a tent, no worries for you. Level area around the table, bear box and fire ring. Bathrooms are older, kept clean by the camp hosts. Kudos to them. Each female restroom has two sinks and two toilets, no showers. Male restrooms have two sinks, one toilet and one urinal. If we really need a shower we head over to High Sierra Campground and pay to use their showers.

Sites are a little small and close together, and there's a bit of road noise, but the campground was really nice. There was plenty of good shade, the campostes were very friendly, and the restrooms were clean. This is a great option if you are looking for an affordable alternative to a hotel while still being in easy reach of all the amenities in town.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
