There were very few other campers besides my wife and I. In the middle of the night in the campsite near us, the woman was screaming for hours. It was very scary and we felt very vulnerable and didn't know what to do.

Spotless restrooms and well-maintained grounds generally. Large spaces between sites. Some traffic and railroad noise--but we think the trains are kinda romantic :-)

Gorgeous campground in a fantastic location. I rode my bicycle all around and had a relaxing time. Still open for fall camping in late October, I was delighted to get a hot shower on a cold morning. The camp host was very friendly and gave me information about fun things to go do.

This campground doesn't actually accommodate big rigs like it claims to. We are in a 46ft fifth and really struggled to have enough room to get into the spot as well as get out of the campground. It was lovely & peaceful (minus the raccoons tormenting us in the trees overhead haha) but definitely not big rig friendly. Honestly, it's probably not even friendly for bigger than a 30foot. Lesson learned to not assume that the website or the site map is accurate.

Dune wood campground is very well maintained. The support staff is doing a great job. A big thanks to Darlene, the campground host! She is doing a superb job, keeping track of incoming and outgoing campers, and potentially available campsites. We had reserved a site which turned out insufficient for us. Darlene helped us find an available site at Dunewood, and told us how to contact Recreation.gov, to switch the reservation to the new site. She was on top of who was leaving the campground and it helped us greatly!

Amazed at the shear beauty of the land and facilities

Beautiful campground! Everything was extra clean at the bathhouse! Our site was beautiful and the other campsites are too close!

This is a beautiful campground: clean facilities, nice campsites that seem well cared for and level.The park itself is interesting and the nearby Kemil Beach with close by parking was easy to access and watch the dark sky. It is NOT walkable from the campground. Other campers were polite and quiet. Unfortunately the ambient noise at night is too loud. Both the traffic from a nearby roadway and the constant passing of freight trains and the blowing of the horn kept me awake. I happened to have a pair of earplugs (not noise cancelling) but the din around me continued. If you are in an RV or something that closes down, or have noise cancelling earphone, this may not be a problem. Overall a nice 2 day nature trip.

Don't let the photos fool you the sites look way better in person.They're all a quick walk from the parking area, with plenty of space and some-what privacy between them, so you can really enjoy yourself. The main area has clean restrooms with showers, which is super convenient. Plus, Hobgoblin has an awesome drink selection, and Jannsens Dunes Mart has all the basics in case you need to grab anything you left behind.

This campground is quiet, and the sites are level and spacious. I appreciate the clean bathrooms and individual shower rooms, as well.

Nice bathroom with hot shower, but road noise and train TERRIBLE!!!! This campground is in the middle of 2 cities and along a major highway. Did not seem like a Nat park campground at all!

We stayed at one of the walk-in campsites in mid-October. Since the walk-in sites are positioned around the parking lot and campground loop, most are a relatively short walk to the bathroom/showers. Sites are a good size with plenty of space for tent and room to move around. Fire ring at our site was in excellent condition. Camp host was easy to find and helpful, directing us to where to get firewood. The campground itself does not sell firewood, but there is a gas station very close by that does. Dunewood Trace trailhead is also accessible from the campgrounds, which is another plus, since the trail is connected to the Glenwood Dunes trail system. The main caveat with the NP campground is that they are about 10 miles from the beach. We didn't really mind this, as we would have to drive to Cowles Bog and other sites regardless, but if you prefer a walk to the beach from your campsite, the SP campground might be preferable. Otherwise, we liked Dunewood, as good as the other NP campgrounds we've stayed at.

Great camp sites throughout this park. We got a pull through site which was perfect! Lots of space between sites.

The camping sites are very large and well separated from each other. The restrooms and showers were very clean. Views of Chicago from Indiana Dunes are spectacular along with just the beauty of Lake Michigan.

Beautiful campground. However, the train and traffic noise was over the top. I didnt get any sleep and ended up leaving after one night of a four night planned visit.

Solid, quiet (except for the train), clean, close in. No criticisms.

The best campground so far. I have been 32 national parks. Luxurious campground with hot water, 4 shower rooms, spacious restroom, very very clean, two hand dryers, one put higher for drying my hair. 5 min from beach, good restaurant and grocery right outside of campground.

Well maintained camp site, top notch shower / restroom facilities. Trails well signed. Over all an excellent experience

Camp sites were clean and well spaced apart. Camphosts were friendly and helpful. South Shore train service runs close by the campground so be aware of some train noise.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
