Nice campground. New facilities. Nice volunteer host. Some traffic noise from the highways nearby but not terrible.

Great campground. The sites are well spaced and have good privacy. Bathroom and showers are cleaned daily. Very quiet. Heavily wooded, so lots of shade but not much sun. Mosquitos can be intense. Have stayed here multiple times, and have not had a bad experience yet.

Not worth the money. While one can camp for free or maybe for 10 USD a night at some of the most beautiful places in the US, this campground is not worth the money. 25 USD per night for 1 person with a tent, nonelectric site, with no parking next to your tent, is high-priced. When I just finished setting up my tent, they told me I had to buy a state park pass for 25 USD again. 50 USD in total is a rip-off for this place for one night. I didnt buy the state pass, wrote off the 25 USD I already paid online and left. I already paid 12 USD for the national park for nothing, as Google Maps first routed me there, and they refused to refund although they know this happens on a regular basis.

Tried to get a last minute site as we were passing through. No staff available on the phone or on site. Got a walkin in one and just parked our van in the parking lot and slept there. When the host came around. They informed us we also had to buy a park pass on top of our camping fee... overall we paid 50usd to park in a parking lot and have a shower.

Nice, shady, roomy campsite - excellent park staff - super clean bath house - quiet campground - what could be better!?!?

Campground host was EXCEEDINGLY kind and caring when checking to make sure I was supposed to be there. I'd pulled in very late and wasn't sure about disturbing them to check in, so I left my pass and the printout of my reservation on my dash. The next morning, they did knock on my window (car camper), though it was already maybe 9:00 or 9:30 when they did so. They very politely explained that they'd seen my dash stuff but still had to confirm who I was. It was clear that they could see how exhausted I was, and within about ten seconds of sharing my info, they were almost parentingly telling me to go back to sleep. :)

West Beach was the best. Ample parking and showers available after swimming.

I have been to several state parks in Indiana. This is by far the most abandoned one of them. The only good thing about it is that is close to the Indiana Dunes National Park. But that being the case this should be gem of a park where people from other states visiting the dunes should get a great impression about Indiana, but that is not the case.

The campground is really nice and clean. We stayed in a tent. Places are apart from each other, separated by trees. Bathrooms and showers are clean with hot water.

Great experience! Loved the town. Loved the campground. Our site was perfectly private enough. Showers could be less clogged and messy but will be back.

Not sure why they don't mow the campground, but the surprise was a NPS campground with a shower house.

It's a National Park, close to Indiana Dunes and half the price for All Access Pass Holderd. I stayed in the Douglas Loop and at 30', I was the largest rig there. Lots of tents and smaller trailers. If you need longer, I suggest the Mather Loop. They are identical in set up. Trees, spaced apart, asphalt roads and sites were level. Shower House was excellent, clean, hot water, good pressure but busy. They have a campers sink for washing dishes and a dump station.

Great campsite, informative staff. Water available (pull down hose) to fill my little 7-gallon storage tank. Convenient to both East and West beaches.

Wow! Such a wonderful campground. The showers were HOT and the campground was very well taken care of. We chose to do a walk in tent site. The only thing that I would say is the sites are pretty close together. Other than that it's great. The gas station down the road has soft serve and the beach is beautiful!

The staff is so friendly and helpful. She told me where I could find everything and was very understanding.

Beautiful campground tucked into a wooded oasis even though major roads nearby. Very clean, welcoming staff. Campground is walking distance to great trails, architectural tour, a restaurant and stores.

Great campground and awesome beach and sand dunes. We love coming here, and the wood fired pizza truck just outside the campground doesnt hurt. Nice bathroom/shower facilities and the camping host couldnt be any nicer.

Ive been coming here for years and it never gets old. Going to the beach, hiking in the great swamp trail, taking in the architecture of the worlds fair homes and others its an amazing getaway from city life. Its always a pleasure to stay at Dunewood and it was a great choice for my first solo camping trip. For someone who doesnt drive, it was really a godsend that I could get here and still find somewhere to camp via public transportation (South Shore Line). While one day is not enough to enjoy the Dunes, it was still a really unique experience to be able to do this without a car. Im very happy I did this.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
