South Marcum Campground, Benton, IL

South Marcum Campground in Franklin county is located 51 min northeast of Carbondale, IL with an elevation of 437 feet. There are a total of 160 campsites. The campground is normally open from the end of March to mid November. 146 sites can accommodate RVs and trailers between 32 and 94 feet. All sites are currently reservable. Reservations can be booked up to 6 months in advance. 46 sites have electric and water hookups. 100 sites have electric hookups. Fees range from $16.00 to $44.00. Some amenities include shower, drinking water, dump station, playground, restroom, trash dumpster, ramada, flush toilets. Activities include biking, hiking trails.

Expect to hear the highway from the middle of the camp ground. Great place to see wildlife.

Nice campground. Spots are nice sized. Spotty cell service/internet access. Clean. Rangers and camp hosts make regular rounds. Lots of deer. Well maintained.

Love staying at this campground. They have so much to do around the area. I especially love the bike path. It is so very long and wide. Stayed on site number 55 and it was fairly level but still needed a little leveling. It had a beautiful view of the lake and good access to the lake but down the hill.

Our first time staying at South Marcum. We loved the campgrounds. We were on site 17 and were very happy with it. It is quite a large site. Very clean restrooms and nice shower house. Friendly staff at the gatehouse. Beautiful lake and surrounding recreation areas. Very nice place overall!

Site number 42 says it has 0 grade. Big slope side to side and a big drop off where the steps go. Camper must be parked far to the right. Private and shady. Tight area backing in from the road. Did get a 31' travel trailer in this spot

What a beautiful campground! I felt so lucky to get the space we needed even though we were just passing through. The site was a full hook up, very spacious, extra parking spot and had a nice cement patio. So pretty in the woods and very quiet. We will be back!

We travel a couple of hours just to camp at South Marcum campground, the views from some of the sights are just beautiful, the site are far enough apart that it makes it private. There is fishing, walking, bike riding paths, and playgrounds for kids, lots to do.

We were harassed by an uninformed park ranger that said we were not occupying the site when we were there every day. We canceled the rest of our vacation and came home. I guess we will join the ever growing number of people that wont use rend lake because of very poorly trained park rangers.

No complaints other than the racoons and the skunks .. I do believe they could do a better job of trapping them and taking elsewhere

Site# 57 is very short, has a fair slope, and has a paved side area to park a vehicle. There are a couple of trees for shade. View is incredible. Bathrooms were mostly clean.

Rented my mother in laws camper for the night and was made to leave because she had already stayed in her camper 14 days. The host a Gun Creek park their air b and b camper on sites daily and no one rents them or stays in them the entire time they are parked yet the wordens overlook it. All the rules can be broken by state employees but when someone rents the same camper they are made to leave.

Great camp ground, only downfall would be camp ground is out of town several miles so need to plan ahead for getting food prior to arrival. This was out third time at South Marcum which is our favorite camp ground.

Our original reservation for site 57 had a 5 degree slope that made it impossible to level our motirhome. Luckily, the gate was still open and we were moved to site 52. Bathrooms are clean with plenty of hot water.
