South Sandusky Campground, Sesser, IL

South Sandusky Campground in Franklin county is located 49 min northeast of Carbondale, IL with an elevation of 483 feet. There are a total of 127 campsites. The campground is normally open from the end of March to the beginning of November. 119 sites can accommodate RVs and trailers between 45 and 99 feet. All sites are currently reservable. Reservations can be booked up to 6 months in advance. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring. 89 sites have electric and water hookups. 30 sites have electric hookups. Fees range from $16.00 to $26.00. Some amenities include shower, playground, swimming, amphitheater, flush toilets. Activities include biking, fishing, hiking trails.

We stayed 3 nights at site 112. It's a beautiful site with pine trees all around. It was to windy to kayak,but we have done that before. The lake is beautiful. We did some bike riding on the bike path, which is always fun. The showers are very clean and well taken care of.

The 30 amp breaker was broken. We had to go buy an adapter to use the 50 amp outlet.

Kelly ,is always very nice and welcoming! And actually we had a evening park ranger try and help us trap a ferrell kitten ! Very nice quiet campground! And the grounds are well kept! The fall was beautiful there this year! Only wish they would let you come on your site early and split the day with people leaving. Kind of late to set up a campsite at 4 or 5pm.

I grew up coming here and still do now. It's very clean and family friendly. I recommend camping here to everyone and everyone even living in Kentucky. It's a lovely place to spend time and relax.

We had a wonderful week camping at South Sandusky! We spent time riding on the bike trail everyday--the location of South Sandusky allowed us to ride two different directions and added variety to our rides. Site #183 has a great view of the lake. The site did require some side to side leveling, but nothing a couple of pieces of wood or blocks can't fix.

concrete pads and shade trees in certain camp sites would work nicely (ours was in full sun). more full hookups also. overall much better than state park campground. thank you

The restrooms were ALWAYS clean. Sites were cleaned up from recent storm debris. Sites were large and fire pit was very useful in containing fire. I would stay there again and recommend South Sandusky Campground to all.

South Sandusky sits on the west side of the lake between North Sandusky campground and the visitors center. It is convenient to the walking/biking trail and the beach. The town of Benton which offers a Walmart and a variety of fast-food restaurants is not too far away. There isn't too much to the town of Benton. The biggest attraction is the lake itself. It's large and beautiful with a marina for boat rental.

Site 147 is a pull through w/e that has a bit of a view of the lake. It sloped front to back a fair amount but overall it was nice.

Beautiful campground! I had a spot right on the lake and watched a family of deer come out of the woods and walk along the lake. So peaceful and relaxing. The sites are pretty level and the bathrooms are clean. The camp hosts are friendly and helpful. I did not want to leave!!

A group was allowed 8 tents on 1 campsite. They were also allowed to park ONLY CARS on another paid campsite without a tent or camper on that site which are both in violation of south Sanduskys rules and regulations.
