Cabin was fairly nice, with great mattresses. Water pressure is great, but sink water needs to be routed differently outside.Idiot campers at campground would run loud generator day and night, and would not turn it off at 10 pm, even though they knew they were supposed to. Road coming in is very bad (potholes all over): first couple miles after pavement was good, since I believe it's the county(?) that grades it, but the rest is very bad. Nice fireplace movable grate.

We snowshoed in for a sunny weekend. It was about 5 miles each way. On the last half mile, there hadn't been any snowmobiles in a while and we broke trail. On the way out, we took our snowshoes off about halfway back and finished by walking on fairly packed snowmobile trails. The cabin was in great shape. The water spigot was working great - what a luxury! Cook stove and lantern worked. Pots and pans are usable. The wood stove is almost brand new and worked great. We had to leave the door cracked to really get the fire going but were able to close it down for the night when it was heated up. Only had to get up one time to feed it during a night with a low in the high teens. Plenty of wood in the wood shed and a splitting maul. The door on the shed is REALLY tight! I could barely get it opened and then closing it was a real chore. The door needs to be trimmed down some. It's been worked on with a sander but needs more. Bring your plane or spokeshave and get on it! (I will let the FS know.)

Perfect winter cabin experience. Great snow conditions made for an easy 5 mile ski in. Cabin was clean and cozy. We enjoyed our stay and hope to visit again.

Kading Cabin was great when we went in July 2022. The cabin was in good shape. Good fishing in the Little Blackfoot River and the hike adjacent to the campground was very good. We saw 2 people and a moose there. The cabin overlooks the campground that's just 100yards away. No issues or noise with any of the campers. The road in is fine. Bumpy in spots. Flies near the cabin but hellacious.

Cozy cabin, with a babbling brook and trail access. Nice firepit, picnic table, thick mattress, water spigot close, propane stove (bring fuel), bbq (bring brickets) and lots of wood.

Skied into the cabin for an overnighter. Probably the 8-10th time we've done so (always in the Winter). It's a nice, cozy cabin and in Winter- very peaceful. There was plenty of firewood and a maul to split; no axe, so I recommend bringing a small one to make kindling with (maul won't work for that). The cabin has a propane lantern and two burner propane stove, so bring two bottles. As the wood stove is running most of the time we are there, I always set the big pan on the stove full of water (running water at a well head spigot feet from the cabin) to add a little moisture to the air and always have water for cleaning. The wood stove is pretty efficient, but plan on getting up a few times at night to add firewood (if it's cold) if you want the cabin to stay warm. Enjoy!

We had an incredible experience at Kading. We snowmobiled about four miles into the cabin on about a foot of untracked snow. The cabin was clean and the wood bin stocked. This cabin has many supplies for cleaning and cooking. Two great perks: running water and a sink that drains outside. While we were there, we shoveled off the picnic table for the next guests and we stocked both the inside and outside wood bins. The cabin is equipped with an assortment of games and puzzles. The stove heated the cabin quickly. There is a propane stove and it works better than the one we brought. The outhouse seems fairly new: i.e. clean. All in all, we had a great time. We will come back next winter. This isn't a cabin I'd go to in the summer. It is too close to the campground. Numerous entries in the log book noted the noise coming from the campground at night during the summer months and hunters in the fall.

What a great location and a nice cabin! I appreciated the gray water drain sink to the outside, running water outside, and plentiful wood for the outdoor fire ring and indoor stove. The previous visitors left the cabin in great shape. I was happy to have an extra set of mantels for the lantern, but it needs a new globe. Part of staying in the woods is being around the wildlife, including mice. There were many signs, and I highly recommend bringing disinfecting wipes or spraying with paper towels to wipe everything down. I even had a few check me out after it got dark thinking, “Who’s in our house?” Overall, it was a great experience, and I recommend taking advantage of the gracious offering of the National Forest Service. I look forward to visiting again soon.

This cabin is a perfect little escape. Make sure you have lanterns/headlamps because the cabin is VERY dark at night with all of the shutters closed. Make sure you read (and contribute!) to the cabin log book. So many wonderful stories of the cabin’s storied past.

Had a great weekend stay at the kading cabin. Hiked to Blackfoot meadows, which was an easy 8 mile round trip hike. The cabin was well furnished and very clean and comfortable. I’d definitely recommend a stay there . I’ll be back in the future!

It's a very nice little cabin in a beautiful spot.

This is a small, but comfortable one room cabin. The only drawback is a lack of shade. If you want to be outside in the summer, you may want to bring your shade.

Very clean, well stocked, comfortable and quiet. Hike to Blackfoot Meadows was very enjoyable.

The trails from the cabin were very well marked (new signs) and well maintained. Horse corral was good and had clean water.

I had a good stay at the Kading Cabin. A flock of Pine Grosbeaks came to the porch to visit me each morning. I snowshoed in; it took a about 2.5 hours. The first part of the trail was torn up some by vehicles that had been driven, and gotten stuck, beyond the plowed area. I took a snowshoe hike up the Larabee Gulch Trail, which was a bit of an adventure. The water to the outdoor spigots at the cabin was turned off, which hadn't been the case during other winters I've been there. There was plenty of water though available from the stream near the entrance to the campground. You might want to consider bringing some newspaper for starting a fire in the wood stove because the supply was getting low. It would be nice if there was a hatchet at the cabin for making kindling. The only tool that seems to be available now is a splitting maul, which is less than ideal.

Kading is always great. Good times guaranteed. Unless you're glued to your phone. In which case, don't come.

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
