The hikes were amazing! The Pine Springs campground not so much. Hard to get a site for consecutive nights and crazy windy when we were there.

People are quiet after 8 pm. Nice. Full moon and stars are amazingly bright.

The campground is a parking lot. Narrow spaces with picnic tables nearby. No showers, but bathroom was clean. Campground parking lot serves as trail head for several trails. Devils Hall was a fun hike! Lots of scrambling, gorgeous fall colors!

Being able to climb the highest peak in Texas, along with hiking many other rugged and enjoyable trails make this a wonderful national park. Regarding when is the best time to go, early November has consistently been a wonder season due to warm days, cool nights, and stunning fall color. It's also very worthwhile to make the short drive over to McKittrick Canyon which also has beautiful fall foliage. A day trip to Carlsbad Caverns is also a wonder addition.

Great service at Visitor Center.

As other reviews have pointed out, the campground is a large, paved parking area which also is shared with day hikers. The sites backing up to the trees are small and more suitable to smaller trailers or class B/C RVs. The center section will accommodate large trailers/5th wheels and class A RVs but that space is limited in size, too. Be mindful of the size of your RV AND the overhang of the trees in the back sites. That being said, our time was enjoyable and our site (25) accommodated our 17 trailer. The parking area can become busy as this is trail access to Guadalupe Peak and other hikes as well. Potable water is available, a water bottle fill station is in the restroom building, and the restrooms are well maintained. There wasnt a campground host (family emergency) but the rangers and volunteers make frequent appearances (great staff!).My only complaint is with generator usage in such a cramped area. I loathe the sound and smell of these contraptions and would rather have them eliminated entirely unless it was mandated that generators must be confined to the interior of the vehicle while in use. At the very least generator use should be limited to 1-2 hours in the morning and 1-2 hours in late afternoon. Had a great five day visit (hiking) and would certainly return.

Great views! It can get very windy, so make sure to prepare for that. There are ample large rocks to secure your tent, but make sure your stove has some kind of wind protection; otherwise it can be hard to cook. My only complaint is that I think the price is a little high for the amenities here (the entrance fee should be higher, I think).

Site was beautiful and well-maintained. Great views. Definitely appreciated the separate tent area, which was very quiet. Tents not to far from parking. Clean pit toilets near tent area. Flush toilets a short walk away near RV camping area.

I camped in an RV space which is dry camping but worked well. Most of the trailheads in this NP start at a single location at this campground so if you plan to do some hiking, it is a good idea to plan ahead and book a site, or even get to the park early in the morning, as the parking is limited, and did fill up on Saturday morning.Otherwise - the campground is in a pleasant bowl with beautiful views of some of the peaks. Rest room facilities and water supply are adequate, but for campers, showers are lacking and it may be a good idea to add them with some means of controlling access to registered campers.

Excellent location, easy access to trailheads

This is a parking lot at a trailhead. The bathrooms are clean and the view of the leaks is nice. Served its purpose as an overnight stop.

Camp spot was in a parking lot, but we had a spot at the end of the lot. It was quiet, good access to bathroom an and water. Enjoyed our stay.

Pine Springs is terrific. BUT, I find it incredibly frustrating when people reserve a campsite, then pull a no show, the campsite is then NOT used that night, nor can anyone else use it. I stayed at Pine Springs for 5 consecutive nights but it took 3 separate campsites (reservations) on my part to make it work. Its frustrating to have to break camp, pack everything up, move to a new campsite the next night, and then see that your original campsite actually never got used by the people who reserved it!!! There has to be a solution to this.
@JustinM3391219 · Camped on Oct 16, 2024 at Campsite #12
Beautiful place! Tent sites well spaced, mostly private. Bathrooms clean. Obviously it would be nice if there were more facilities, like water in the tent area, but its manageable and understandable given the remote, desert location. I thoroughly enjoyed my trip, including chatting with all the park rangers.

Campground is a parking lot for RVs, but has bathroom with running water and water bottle refill station. Has great views of the mountains and many hiking trails (although many are very difficult). Very close to Guadalupe NP visitor center and about 40 minites from Carlsbad Caverns. Not many RV sites, so book early. Good Starlink service.

Beautiful tent sites at this campground!

A great place to stay close to hikes and visitor center. Easy to get around and clean facilities
@CharlesL794562 · Camped on Oct 7, 2024 at Campsite #26
Great location, right at the trail head for Gaudalupe Peak Trail. RV space is on a level paved surface that's long enough for a combined rig length of 50ft. No connections, strickly dry camping but the park provides a water bottle fill station.
@KevinF3969695 · Camped on Oct 5, 2024 at Campsite #22
Small camp ground but it was nice, beautiful views at nice too. mostly a parking lot but most places do not have that much privacy anyway. Rest rooms come with sanitary toilet seat covers. That is very nice. Dish washing area too. The best was a purified water fill station. External water also available. No external dump site toilet holding tanks are pumped out by a sanitation truck.

Wonderful staff. Very clean facilities. We stayed in our camper for three nights with no issues.- Check out Frijole ranch / smith spring trail. The nature speaks for itself!
@FrancisGE22EF2 · Camped on Sep 19, 2024 at Campsite #13
Nice little camp. The tent section was away from the RVs. There is a filtered water station. The biggest disappointment is the noise from the highway. The camp is less than a mile from a very busy highway and all night long cars and trucks are zooming along. You go to nature to get away from the stress of the world, but the traffic noise just brings you right back. Would it kill the NPS to out a sound barrier along the highway?

loved how the trail head was at the campsite

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
