Nice reliable sites, every pad even and the same, a fire ring and a picnic table, its a shame you can't move the table, but thats a minor point, bathrooms were clean, some were missing soap dispensers for some reason, but again a minor thing, bring your own soap. There is ice and firewood available but you would save money getting those in town on your way back in. It was pretty quiet when we were there, this is our second trip, and a full 5 days this time. saw some resident turkeys, they are always wandering the campground, saw a bear on the way into town :) There is such an assortment of things to do in the area, something for anyone. We love doing the caves, did anakeesta this year and the new astra lumina which I loved. The views in the mountains are great. Big tip: Bring earplugs! The cicadas are quite loud. Wife loves to visit the elkmont abandoned town, it's been a few years since our last visit but the town is all restored now (some were closed last time) The river is very low this year which was a shame. But this is our favourite campground in this area. Will be back again next year!

Nice site, not on the water but close enough to hear the water. Some road noise. Zero cell service.

Beautiful place to camp. Gatlinburg is not worth the trip in. Spend your time enjoying all of the hikes and waterfalls. Amazing national park and campground!

Everything was wonderful minus two things: no showers and the price for the wood/ice was highway robbery! I wouldve taken a shower with cold water and on a timer no problem, but not to have any showers especially when camping/ hiking for seven days was trying. I took dips in the Little river, but it would have been nice to shower with some soap.

Amazing nature, well maintained campsites and facilities. The staff was super nice and gave us a lot of recommendations what to do around. Great trails. RV and Tent sites are amazing.

Amazing campground with clean flowing water right through. It did rain suddenly and hard, but ended after a short while. Wonderful time.

Elkmont Campground was a very nice experience. It was quiet and very pleasant! I was at Cades Cove earlier in the week. I left that campground early , due to the amount of noise there. The grounds crew comes in at 5:50 am with zero regard to campers. They come in with radios wide open , and stand around visiting for a pint an hour. Then start mowers up around 7. That place is a joke as far as campgrounds.

Best site ever! I come back annually and enjoy every moment I get to spend at the campsite. Perfect accessibility to river and a pair of trees beside it that beg for a hammock. All the staff you encounter love their jobs and it shines through in the sincerely friendly way every interaction is handled.

We had a gorgeous site by the river and enjoyed our stay! I would have preferred bear lockers on the site given the amount of bear activity in the area, otherwise a wonderful experience in GSMNP!
@TracyP12A9E82D · Camped on Aug 2, 2024 at Campsite #C12
Great site, although previous campers left burned cans and other garbage in the firepit. Please don't burn trash! There is a garbage bin literally steps away from C12! Site has small creek behind it, but also Elkmont Road, which is visible and can be a bit loud during the day, with lots of UTVs and big pickup trucks roaring through.Campground was quiet after 8PM, the staff were great, and restrooms pretty well-kept, although there was no soap included. However, the road really needs those awful potholes filled. Some of them were probably about 4 inches deep, which is ridiculous.Absolutely no cell/wifi service, so it's recommended to download Google Maps of the entire GSMNP in advance and/or bring a printed map to refer to. I made the mistake of failing to download the Cade's Cove section of the park and had to analog my trip out with a ::gasp:: printed map.

Elkmont is the most amazing campground. Things have certainly improved in recent years, with the rangers and camp hosts being more reasonable. It has made the experience much better than it was several years ago.

We have been camping at Elkmont for more than 30 years. Every year is special. Fishing and floating the river are always fun adventures. We hiked to Alum Cave Bluff and Laurel Falls with the grandkids. Our favorite activity is just sitting by the river reading a book. Elkmont is great!

Beautiful, quiet, listening to the river and bugs was perfect for sleeping. Close to some good hiking trails.

We have been coming to Elkmont campgound for over 50 years and have really have loved every time we have visited. We tent camp and enjoy the areas that do not allow the generators. It is great to just enjoy nature without any other "outside" noise. Always be prepared for rain, bring tarps and extra shoes. Enjoy. Every trip is AWESOME!!.

Ive camped in Elkmont almost yearly since the early 80s and always enjoyed the experience. Unfortunately for the past two years the experience has been marred by overzealous park rangers. Last year I was written up for not properly storing food, a gallon jug of water. This year I rented a walk in site without the intention to camp. Our plan was to use the site only for campfire cooking and a home base for swimming and relaxing. When i explained this to the ranger I was confronted with a snippy no day use rule. So, I changed my plan to 2 people camping, even though I had no intention to camp. Rules are rules but there is such a thing as common sense and tact. A jug of water is not food and a bear can smell. Renting a campsite without the intention to camp has less impact than camping with the same amount of revenue collected. I have come to think that some of these park rangers have forgotten they are employees of the taxpayers and have come to believe they are their overlords. These unsavory attitudes can serve to distract from an otherwise great outdoor experience.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
