Beautiful

The campsite had such an incline that we had an extremely difficult time and never did get our camper level. When we put the levelers up, the camper went into limp mode because it thought the coolant level was too low. We probably will not be back.

Pretty location, great fishing. Latrines were immaculate; Mark, the campground host was great. Would have liked less rain, but can't have everything.

Wonderful campground with many shaded spots.

Camp host was awesome and very friendly! The surrounding lakes are great, easy to walk to from the campground and the views were worth it. The campground restrooms were kept clean, along with the actual campground. Firepit/grill was awesome to use for burgers and hot dogs. Gravel road was super easy to travel on. Overall great experience and would 100% recommend! Definitely bring bug spray though

The camp host was the best we've ever encountered. The restrooms were spotless and even fresh smelling! He cleaned them everyday. MANY mosquitos so we'll be sure and book this campground during a dryer and less buggy season. It's an absolutely beautiful area!

Campground host Dan was welcoming and friendly. He has kept the campground clean and in great shape. The toilets are immaculate.

Beautiful and quiet campground, amazing host, close to several trails and lakes, cooler in the summer months because of the altitude. Just be prepared for the mosquitoes.

Super impressed with how clean the facilities were there. Camp host and staff doing a superb job. Also super friendly manager and hosts! Potable water and some of the pit toilets had soap outside. Quiet despite a busy holiday weekend. Will definitely come back! Site #9 rocks!

One of the best campgrounds we have stayed in Colorado. Beautiful, peaceful, quiet campsites in a convenient location to the lake. Super-friendly campground hosts came around selling us firewood just when we needed some. Bathrooms absolutely spotless, cleanest we've ever seen. We will be spoiled by this site for the future.

The spacing of the sites is very nice. Many beautiful trees and wild flowers. Very well maintained. And the camp host was helpful and friendly. Our travel trailer is 36 ft.

The camp host removed the hose bib so no one can fill their RV with a hose. You have to drag multiple jugs to your RV. Furthermore, the camp host was hardly visible, never actually coming by to check in with us even though were there for a week. Not actually sure if he lived there or not. There were many days where the campground host left the Campground Full sign up even though there were many empty sites available. There is very little cellphone reception, except if you hike to the top of the hill by site 32, where you will get 3 bars/LTE service. The facilities themselves are nice, but the road is getting a bit rutted and needs some grading. In our experience, the people in the area dont really want visitors as they are a bit unhelpful and do not seem to care. The only place that was helpful was the visitor center staff.

Very nice campground, quiet, bathrooms were clean.

Great campground. Site 9 has an enormous tent pad area. We set up a 4p tent and a 2p tent as well as 2 rain tarps on it. Black-tailed deer roamed the hill side above it as well as came down right beside our tents. Pit toilets were kept clean and stocked.

You do not control the weather but it was very buggy and we had hail. And as a result of the hail there was a lot of wash out of the campsite itself. Including the post falling over or if it's own accord. It seems like the drainage needs to be looked at to ensure that it is a little better. The trail around the lake is nice. The upper part of the campsite was nice.

Beautiful spot with views of the lake and mountains. Easily accessible lake and hiking, excellent camp host. Only downside was the mosquitos!
@NickM4938843 · Camped on Jul 27, 2023 at Campsite #11
There are two young bears that roamed through the campground each of the three days we camped. Many of the tent campers had food and trash in their sites which attracted the bears. Unfortunately as these bears get older, and bigger, chances are they will have to be destroyed because of the lazy behavior of some campers. The USFS and Host need to do more to get people to be more bear aware. The campground is a lovely location, and we enjoy staying there.

The excellent weather and cooler air were wonderful. We appreciated the quietness of Island Lake campground. As usual excellent fishing in the Cobbett Lake which is by the Grand Mesa Visitors Center. We drove over to the Land's End Observatory overlook this time. A beautiful site. Next year, we plan to drive the Land's End road all the way to US Highway 50. Since there are +300 lakes and ponds on the Grand Mesa, bring bug spray to ward off the mosquitoes. As heads up to you internet junkies, there is free Wi FI at the Grand Mesa Visitors Center. Also, the Mesa Lakes Lodge is nearby if need last-minute grocery items and fishing supplies.

We arrived later than expected, but we still had time to enjoy the sunset, start a campfire, and take in all the stars! We were in site 23 which looked to the open vastness of the east (although our site still had lots of trees) and we witnessed a spectacular dawn. The campground was pristine as were the bathrooms. We would like to go back and stay a few days.

This is a great campground. The sites are spacious and private and the scenery is beautiful. The campground hosts were available and helpful. Clean bathrooms. Will definitely camp here again.

This campground is clean and beautiful. Our campsite was level and had a bit of shade. We were on the lake. The bathrooms were clean and are individual spaces (4) with a toilet , sink and shower in each.

We camp at Island Lake several time each year. The hosts there are always good and very accommodating, this summer the new ones are terrific. The rest rooms are clean, the camp spots spotless. They are around and through the campground several time each day. They are doing a great job and I am sure they are not paid enough.

Just a great time with family!

We loved this campground! It's beautiful with abundant wild flowers and native plants. Much nicer than some of the closely trimmed camp sites we've been in previously. The sites are roomy and very well maintained. We love the configuration of the sites. The biffies are extremely clean. The hosts are pleasant and as helpful as they can be. The only negative statement I can write is that some of the biffies' tanks are way too full. The septic tank cleaning truck needs to visit. We hope to stay at this campground next year. Hopefully, we'll time the sun better.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
