We encountered a couple of bears in this area. Usually black bears are scared of humans. All we should have to do is yell at them and they go running. Well! After yelling at these bears and even firing and warning shot in the air, these bears wasn't fazed. Seems like these bears are being fed by humans. Makes for a real dangerous situation. It was a big bear and a cub. So we decided since it wouldn't leave we had too.

My son and I camp there every year. It is a tradition we want to continue many year in the future. Lester the host is so nice and the sites are well kept and secluded. Many memories were made there.

Cherry Hill is our favorite campground EVER, and we have been camping for over 50 years. We are a bit old and not so comfortable anymore with more primitive sites like Burrell's Ford, but we also do not like the crowded trailer park feel of most state parks including Oconee State Park which is just down the road from Cherry Hill. We really appreciate the ABSENCE of wifi, cell signal, electric and water at every site. The camp sites at Cherry Hill are a good size, and most importantly, there is a lot of vegetation left BETWEEN the sites. We live less than 20 miles from North Carolina entrance to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, but we always head south to camp at Cherry Hill.

Nice campground, beautiful area with so much to do. Just wish the barking dog thing could have been addressed. Rude for fellow campers to allow it!

love this camp ground, been going there for 30+ years it's quiet, clean, and close to river for fishing and waterfalls for hiking.and best of all, in my opinion, NO CELL PHONESyou and your family can actually spend time with each other and enjoy the beauty of our SC mountainsand the small sliding rock in Cashiers is a must, cuz you're never too old...

Overall it was an enjoyable place to stay. My only issues were a pretty un level tent spot, a camp host that didnt really seem that interested in helping us out. Felt like we were inconveniencing him. And the biggest issue were showers with only HOT water. Not a pleasant way to clean off after being outdoors in 96 degree heat.

Peaceful and quiet, some road noise but not bad. Hosts were present but unobtrusive and the bathrooms got a thorough cleaning daily.

We stayed 4 nights at the end of April. The campground was supposedly full our first night (Saturday) but it was still quiet. Site 5 was nice, level and surrounded by trees, so we didn't get much solar gain from our roof-mounted panels. Even so, we only used the generator once. There are water spigots scattered throughout the campground; the one across from site 5 was ridiculously slow, taking more than 25 minutes to deliver 25 gallons. We were inundated with small bugs when we arrived and set up, but they didn't bite and were less bothersome for the remainder of the stay. The restrooms are individual commode/shower rooms--extremely spartan but better than a vault toilet. There was a large tree next to the pad which prohibited fill use of the awning. We camped at Cherry Hill Recreation Area in a Travel Trailer.We didn't take any of the hikes at the campground, but did hike Yellow Branch Falls (nice) and King Creek Falls (very nice!). Another day we ventured up into North Caroline to hike Whitewater Falls. There is a paved walk to the overlook of the lower falls and a better view if you can deal with 150+ steps. (Note: if you use AllTrails, the trail to the upper falls does not result in a decent view.) We then drove a little further to Gorges State Park (beautiful with great visitor center) to hike to Rainbow Falls--probably the best hike of our stay. Don't expect much to be open in Walhalla on Sunday; all of the non-chain coffee shops/restaurants were closed except the Kountry Kupboard, which is closed between 10-11.

Small quiet campground. Picnic table was moss covered; no soap in bathrooms.

Bathrooms have gotten into disrepair, one year (?) after refurbishing. Need to be able to book and change on site (cell service is not nearby, and even there, unreliable). Try to find a helpful camp host. And well water has a funny taste.

We spent a very pleasant Wednesday and Thursday night here in late April. The site was clean and the tent pad was level. There was a charming little creek flowing past the back of the site (#5). Bathrooms were clean and the shower was warm. It was very quiet in the middle of the week, but began to get busy as we were leaving on Friday. Very near to Burrell's Ford and the Wallhalla Fish Hatchery and lots of beautiful hiking.

Great campground, however, I've been going there for at least 10 years,and the showers are showing their age. Additionally, the fire rings sites around ours were all full.

Clean bathrooms, great spot by the creek and super quiet/natural-we come back every year!

Nice small campground. We have a travel trailer and the spot we picked was easy to back into and very level. The bathroom set up is nice, with individual lockable bathroom and showers. The only issue with the bathrooms is they ran out of TP and from another camper this is common on the weekend. There is a camp host on site, but we never did see them. Maybe they could be tasked to check the TP on the weekend.

I had #29 which is a good camp site! I was there to do some hiking, and there are plenty of opportunities in the area! I noticed that there is a lot of fishing going on at the river in the valley, so I may take my pole the next time I go. There is no phone service, but if you need to call home, a short drive up the hill on hwy 107, and you will get.

Excellent campground. Quiet and well maintained, friendly host named Lester, bathhouse was clean and well stocked.Only negatives were that the website layout map is incorrect and the potable water was questionable. Camp is close to stump house tunnel, dollar general, and firewood/boiled peanut stand.

Bathrooms are a little dingy ( really just need a cleaning to remove spiderwebs ). Campground itself is very nice and my site was perfect.

What a great stay! Site was well kept and the amenities are top-notch. Even with the rain, we had a great time and have already booked out next stay at Cherry Hill.

The tent site I rented was great. Subtracting one star for the bathhouse not being as clean as it normally is.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
