We have stayed at Wurtz cabin many times over the years. It is a wonderful location and a lovely cabin. The recent updates to the cabin were much appreciated! And the people before us get a gold star for how clean the cabin was. Thank you for picking up after yourself and leaving the place better than you found it. Made our stay get off to a great start!

There was a pack rat in the ceiling that was loud and terrorizing us. Other guests have complained about it in the journals. Maybe need to trap it!

We loved staying at the historic Wurtz Cabin! It was a peaceful place from which to explore the North Fork portion of Glacier National Park, and the history of the cabin itself is fantastic. We loved reading about the challenges of Frank and Ella Wurtz as they established their homestead and looking at the family pictures on the walls. We hiked to the Thoma Lookout and didn’t see another person on the trail, and we loved cooling off in the river each afternoon. We saw a wide variety of birds from the cabin porch, including a Western Tanager and a Bald Eagle. This is a very special place, and we’re so thankful to the Forest Service for preserving and sharing it!

First of all, the grounds/lawn looked totally un-maintained: tall grass (1-2 ft) and no trimming. Really? Mow the lawn! Take care of the place; make it look like you are proud to have this cabin. The interior was kind of dirty, like the previous renters barely made an effort to sweep/clean the place. The curtains are drab and need to be replaced. I found the cabin to be in a sad condition.

Great time! Big yard for group fun. Propane lanterns help it not be so dark inside. Plenty of dishes/pots/pans etc. Great gas range stove, oven, and griddle made group cooking so easy.

almost perfect. A few issues mostly having to do with the public not the forest service. Last guests had a dog which we new by the poop outside. that is fine with us but we would all lilke to bring our dogs. Last guests did not fill the inside wood bin for the next guests us. Last guests turned off the heater clearly it says do not turn off the heater as the pilot light can be a pain. It was. I had to take apart the cover on the pilot and clean off the carbon deposit to get it to light. It was appropriately clean and neat. We had a great time as the weather cooperated.

There is fire wood provided for the cabin only. For the outdoor fire pit you have to bring your own, which we did. Bring plenty of fire wood during the cold months. Cabin is well stocked with pots, dishes etc. We enjoyed our weekend at the Wurtz cabin.

The stay at the Wurtz was wonderful. We stayed there 7 years ago and finally had a chance to go back. We did some snowshoeing across the road down along the river with perfect snow conditions. The cabin is big and inviting and we loved having the wood stove, when the temperatures were in the teens we were warm and toasty inside. Thank You USFS for having these cabins open for us to rent.

Awesome historical cabin and we loved reading about it. Cabin and amenities are all very nice. Tons of space. The fire pit area has beautiful views but is also overlooking the busy dirt road. We were there in spring but I imagine you get quite a bit of dust in the summer.

We love this cabin. We have stayed several times in differing seasons and have not had a bad experience. Love the North Fork!

Wurtz is a nice cabin, but it has gotten dirtier and dingier over the years. There was significant mouse droppings through all of the kitchen and in the living room. The floors and dining table were sticky and generally grimy. There's also not a lot of privacy at the cabin. Apparently people feel that they can walk up to the cabin and ask questions, park in the parking area to take walks across the road, and use the pit toilet. Not sure if I'll be renting Wurtz again,

Wonderful cabin in the Northfork. Clean, comfortable, well stocked. Lights were very easy to operate. So happy to finally get to stay there. It is quite a ways past Polebridge.

It was a delightful step back in history staying at the Wurtz cabin. Most enjoyed was the fire in the wood stove while reading aloud the binder book about Frank and Ella and the story of their lives up the North Fork. This added greatly to our stay, and if the story were available for purchase in book form, we'd buy it to share with others. Our hike on the old road above the cabins was gorgeous, as was the walk onto the flats to the river's edge. We were completely impressed by how everything needed for cleaning was available. One problem I noticed was the wood stove door latch is somewhat broken. It twirls 'round and 'round; it would be easy to think you'd securely latched the door when you actually hadn't. Made us a bit nervous re fire with future guests who may not be as vigilante as us. Two comments: it's my fervent hope that the NF road NOT EVER be paved (easier access = more people = degradation of wilderness experience). #2 - I hear that we're moving towards satellite cell phone coverage nationally (and globally?) - I dread the day when no place on earth is free of technological intrusion. In large part, our time at Wurtz was exceptional because the road wasn't paved and we could not get cell service.

Beautiful cabin in a very quiet setting. Be sure to walk across the big gravel road and then down the little gravel road that leads to the river. Lots of trails and beautiful views of the river. The logbooks are gems---you learn so much about the Wurtz family history. Many, many thanks to the Wurtz family for their generosity in donating the cabin to the public.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
