The location is a decent central location for Death Valley. The camp space is normal and the ranger that managed the camp registration was friendly and had good advice. The water source was always warm to hot and essentially not useful for consumption unless you had ice. Its not the biggest issue if you come prepared. The biggest complaint I had was someone on golf course always running a lawn mower every morning starting at 545-6am. It was April and not like the days get up to 120+ degrees so not sure why someone has to be mowing that early in the morning every morning. But if you want something thats quieter and better star gazing, I would go to mesquite spring or other sites.

Nice campground with some vegetation on drive in car sites. Close campground restrooms, easy access to visitor center, and about a 10-minute walk to the extensive Furnace Creek general store and restaurant/saloon. Minor annoyances were only from next door campground neighbor pounding tent stakes at 9:30pm and some German rental rvers who started their generator an hour before morning quiet hours ended--hard to blame that on the campground tho.

The timing on switching to first come first served is very confusing. We booked online and thought the sites turned to FF while we were there. That was not the case and we lost our sites. We drove 12+ hours for our spring break to find ourselves without camp spots. Not a great situation. The rangers were not sympathetic or helpful at all.
@BarbaraC646329 · Camped on Apr 13, 2024 at Campsite #27
The campsite was nice, the area was clean and the hiking was great.

We drove all the way from Colorado to find out that we couldnt stay here after our two day stay. We booked online the dates but then it said FF so couldnt book after the dates we entered, drove all the way 13 hours to find we couldnt stay after our two night booking. Very frustrating and angry. That really screwed us. You need to fix your website! So so bummed and waste of money.

In April, you'll want to get up EARLY and do your hiking. It gets hot early in the day.

The only thing we are not satisfied is about the campsite sign is located in other campsite, and the table sign is difficult to notify because it is at the back side of table. We double checked the parking sign, then set up the tent and left to visit Z point. When we came back, the staff moved our tent to the next campsite and told us we used our neighbor's campsite. I suggest that the table sign should be clear and easy to see. Otherwise it is a wonderful place.

Spacious, shady spot! We were impressed with all parts of Death Valley - especially Golden Canyon, Badwater Salt flats, and Dante's View!

The walk-in tent area was a wonderful quiet location on the edge of a busy campground. The walking distance wasn't too far, but provided a nice buffer from campers arriving after dark. The campsites were well distributed and most that I saw had at least one salt cedar tree for shade and and a sense of privacy. Although it was a bit of a trek, the wash station for dishes by the nearest restroom was much appreciated.

We selected our tent site using the campground map provided on recreation.gov, and the location was as expected -- towards the edge and with some degree of privacy. We were pleasantly surprised by the amount of vegetation surrounding our site, though other sites were nearby. The ground where we placed our tent was so soft -- apparently from recent rains -- that we had to tamp it down and still our camp chairs sank into the sand. For both of the nights we camped at Furnace Creek (second week of April), there were strong winds from the north, which were a bit challenging for situating our tent and keeping our supplies from blowing around. I wish the photos of individual sites provided on the recreation.gov site better illustrate the specific features of each site. I find that they tend to look alike. The campground is well maintained; the bathhouse and outdoor dishwashing sinks are clean as are the camp sites. The campground is in a good location in the Furnace Creek area, near the very good visitor center and other resources.

Staff members were friendly and helpful. It would be helpful if garbage dumpsters were closer to campsites. I didn't realize no showers until I arrived. Oh well.....I enjoyed my stay. The folks at the Visitors Center were very helpful. I spent 4 nights. I recommend not cutting your visit too short. There are too many things you will want to see!

Crowded, but the restrooms and wash station were clean. Many sites had shade, but many others did not, so bring your own. Well located within the park near several must see attractions. Gas is expensive here so plan accordingly.
@EvanGFF05D683B · Camped on Apr 7, 2024 at Campsite #148
The campground is terrifically situated in the park, which is vast. Really study, though, the location of your campsite, as fellow campers are not terribly considerate in their use of the dish washing/water filling stations (which are noisy on their own, even moreso if people are banging their dishes around). These stations are usually near the shared bathrooms (which were kept incredibly clean).If you're driving an electric vehicle, the campground is 36 miles from Beatty, Nevada, which has the nearest high-speed chargers. Beatty is a primarily uphill drive. If you want to do the Ubehebe Crater hike, it's 50 miles, one-way, from the campground. Just prepare yourself for the investment of time to get there. The park map does have distances on it, but it's not 100% obvious.Park staff were friendly and present.

We stayed 3 nights and really enjoyed our campsite. Quiet, clean, close bathrooms (flush) and easy all to visitors center. We would definitely stay again during the cooler months.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
