I have an issue with the DAY USE / SEASON PASS machine in the parking lot. I couldn't find a CAMPING option, so I did the $10 day pass. It expired at midnight? So I got on line and spent another $20 through the website to camp... Kind of lame. Camp was nice. Very quiet. LOTS of bugs.

Our reserved site was taken by a loud group with shady neighbors. There was noise/music until at least 1 am. Bathrooms looked neglected. Thankfully we only needed it for one night. Will not be returning.

Nice open places but the lake isn't the easiest to access. Beautiful sunsets!

Campsite afforded a gorgeous view of the lake and surrounding hills and we watched the sunset. Great spot for watching songbirds and raptors and we really enjoyed the dawn chorus. Lake was pristine and fantastic for swimming. There was plenty of room between sites and the campground was nice and quiet. Bathrooms and showers need maintenance but overall great experience.

The camp is nice, but the sites are close. pavement at site 12 and 8 are not leveled - so that was a bit of a problem to the trailerquite hours were not enforcedthe lake is nice -but there is no easy beach access -only boat accesstrails around are few and not well maintained

The provided Toilets have been quite dirty an very unsanitary. The Booking process took longer than necessarry. The view of the Lake was beautiful though. 20$ was reasonable.

It seemed like the campsites hadn't had any spring work done weeds were super tall and covering the campsite, the water faucet was barely visible from the path and you had to walk through knee high weeds to get to it. This isn't what im use to with this site and it was very discouraging probably won't be back for a while.

This visit was our second time in this campground. Like the first time, we had a great time. My wife enjoyed paddling on the lake. Our site - #30 - was reasonably level. There was no shade, but we have solar panels so that worked for us. I gave it four stars instead of five because they hadn't mowed the tall grass along the trails (18-24 inches tall). So we really couldn't enjoy the hiking. My concern was that our dog and I would pick up ticks. We realize that it's early in the camping season, so I'm sure this issue will get resolved before peak season. We plan to return next year. It's a great early-season campsite.

The campground was pretty empty in September. Bathrooms hadnt been cleaned. I camped once during the week and no one else was there, and then camped again on the weekend and there were overnight party people. Never saw a host either time, even within stated host days/hours.Check site stats carefully, as some are too small or slanted for tents.

Stayed in site 26. Plenty of room and nice view of the trees and birds across the little valley. Will plan another trip to kayak on the resevoir.

Quiet, one-night stay in Site 17, which was not quite level, but didn't require blocks for our 23' RV. Great view overlooking Black Butte Lake. Birds, including raptors, seen in abundance. Bathroom (with shower) could have been cleaner.

Super friendly staff

Numbering of tent sites were very confusing for Site 15 (required another camper and a campground cleaning staff's consorted efforts to help me finally find this tent site). It was very small and jammed closely next to other sites. Locations of water spigots were not very convenient. But, basically it was an OK camp site. I enjoyed the surrounding grassy hills and lake views away from the campground.

Cleaning of Restrooms very basic - not really a cleaning. No host at site from wednesday to Saturday

This is now a favorite campground. Loved everything about it. Views, trails, access, space between camping spots.

My wife and I stayed at site #26. It was reasonably flat, but the front right corner was low by 4 inches. Our site, plus #18, 25, 28, 30 seemed pretty level. The others - not so much if you have an RV. Our site was in the sun, which was great for us as we have solar panels. The good part was that if you wanted shade, it was in the area with the picnic table and the fire ring. So you get the best of both worlds. The site had a nice view of the lake. The campsite only had 5 or so other groups, so we pretty much had the place to ourselves. Predicting the wind was tricky. Some days it was windy in the morning and calm in the afternoon, and other days it was the opposite. The wind wasn't horrible, but going against the wind in a kayak could be a chore. The hike to the old bridge was about 2 miles round trip with only one hill. My wife HATES hills, and she managed it just fine. The bathrooms were clean, and there was drinking water available. We didn't use the showers. We didn't use the RV dump either as it didn't look level so it would leave stuff in the tank. We dumped at the Pilot right before I-5. We will definitely be back, but probably in the Fall as summer temperatures will be pretty high.

Beautiful location, peaceful and abundant wildlife. Orland Buttes campground was clean, bathrooms were clean functional and the hot shower was great! We have enjoyed Black Buttes lake in previous years, but none more than this year.

Everything was great EXCEPT: For the second or third straight year, the toilet in the men's restroom in the first loop to the left after the entrance was malfunctioning. PLEASE fix he thing!!!

I was just stopping over for the night on a road trip and ended up here. Practically empty, only two large groups pretty well-separated from each other. Sound does carry a lot here, and there is practically no privacy between adjacent sites (or even those in the same loop), so be mindful of your dates if you are a light sleeper. Bugs not bad, but it was also pretty hot out (still around 90 when the sun set), and being next to a lake, I imagine they could be really bad. One hiking trail to the old bridge, which has great views for sunsets (keep left at the fork, going right goes down to the water I think). If you have a dog, definitely not an area to let it off-leash. A lot of the adjacent land has big signs indicating that the land is monitored (basically an "intruders will be shot" warning), and there are coyotes nearby - I even saw one about 200 feet off after listening to them howling periodically at night and in the early morning. Probably after many of the herbivores whose scat is all over the place as well.

Beautiful sunset at a quiet camp and easy access to freeways.

Beautiful location overlooking the lake. Nice showers and large campsites. Lots of birds while we were there.

Volunteer Staff - extremely helpful and nice. Paid Staff - Was non existent Campsites - great shape. Restroom Facilities - Not so good. I cleaned the toilet and the sink myself. Urinals we're covered with appeared to be dried sewage coming up from the drain. Restroom also smelled like a sewage backup occured and was reopened the the public without repairs. Overall - park needs maintenance staff. I don't believe volunteers should have to handle major restroom problems. The campsites we're great, boat launch was in good shape, and we felt like we owned the park.

Very clean campground with beautiful views of the lake. The camp host is super friendly and was also helpful in giving some recommendations on places to visit and eat in that general area.
@ErikaM7240162 · Camped on Jul 28, 2022 at Campsite #OB26
This campsite was overall a nice experience but a bit off-putting as well. Bear the camp host was nice and helpful. When we arrived it was nearly deserted and because of this it felt somewhat creepy. As the night progressed this eeriness intensified. There are not a lot of bugs out in the daylight so that was nice but once the darkness sets in it’s an all out frenzy. It seemed mainly the nonbiting kind of flying bugs. If you wear a headlamp, be prepared to be constantly hit in the face by them. There was also a fire ant hill on our site and I noticed the “water-bug” kind of roaches crawling around here and there. A white cat was roaming the night. There were rat traps by the lake-side fence. The area is great for night-sky viewing and photography. You can see the milky way here. That said, the nights are brightly lit by the far-off city lights. I would advise to bring a camping portable potty if you are tent camping. The bathrooms are kept well-stocked with soap and toilet paper but they don’t seem like they’re cleaned. They have showers in the restrooms too. There are water spigots throughout the campground. Campsites must be reserved online through REC.gov. Easy to do once there since phone reception was great, I have ATT. Campsite #26 was flat but some campsites are sloped. The campsite road starts/end at a cemetery, really sealing in those creepy vibes. We were glad when we saw others arrive. To surmise, I am glad this place was available to allow us to rest midway from our home and destination but I’m not sure this is a great place for a long stay unless you have an RV. If you are pre-reserving, campsites 23, 25, 26, 27, 28, 35 are flat for sure.

this is a small campsite. there is room for 1 tent but it will crowd the firepit and table. look at the reviews for site 18 for more information.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
