We really enjoyed our stay at Deer Creek Guard Station. We didn't use the propane heater as the wood burning stove was quite adequate even though nights were in the low 20s. The cabin was very comfortable. The area around it was remote and beautiful. We loved it and would not hesitate to do it again. The only drawback is the gravel road to the cabin. It was 13 miles long and extremely rutted. 13 miles took 40 minutes. Just be prepared

The cabin was a total disappointment. It had no water and no propane, so the only advantage of staying there was that we didn't need to pitch our tent. The description says "In winter no water is available", but the water is actually turned of on Labor Day already (which I do not consider as the start of the winter!). To be completely fair, this particular detail was mentioned in one place of description, so I guess it is also partially on me for not noticing. I have also received an email about it, but by that time it was already too late to change anything. Unfortunately the propane was also out so nothing worked - fridge, lights, heating. I have received the condition report while already on the way and had no chance of printing and filling it out. Even if I had the chance to print it - the place where we should return it is one hour drive from the cabin (in the opposite direction of where we were going). Guys, we are in the 2024 - please make the condition report digital!Moreover, during the reservation it says that you will receive the entrance code via email. After the reservation I have received an email, which said that I need to call a phone number in order to receive the reservation code. OK great, so now I had to make sure I have a SIM card, which allows me to call (I am not from US) and that I have good enough reception on my way there. Finally, I did receive the code via email just few days before the stay...

The water is not available on early June, 2024. And the mattress had a lot of hairs on it

This is a lovely property with a ton of room! Initially I thought this was one of those cabin communities with like 6 cabins in a loop, but no its just a single cabin with a good plot of land. There were two picnic tables, an out house, two sheds, an OHV trailhead, fire pit, large stack of cut wood for use, and the cabin itself. WARNING: YOU NEED A CODE to get in. I had gotten a lot of emails saying I would get a final email 4 days before with a code but I never saw that email. So before your trip CALL THEM to get the code. I never saw the inside the of the cabin but the lot was beautiful and Im excited to come back and try again!

Deer Creek is a great little cabin located in a beautiful part of the forest, with amazing views from the front porch. It's right off the FS road and easy to get to. Something to keep in mind is that the kitchen is very small and contains few pots/pans/utensils, so be sure to bring what you need to prepare meals. There is plenty of wood for the wood-burning stove, as well as a propane heater and lighting. The bathroom with shower and hot water (when water is operational during the warmer months) is a major plus. The cabin is close to Alpine, WY which has a great grocery store for any supplies you might need. The FS has done a great job of keeping it close to what it looked like when it was built in the 1930's and has a lot of charm. I've stayed in a number of these FS cabins in various regions, and this is among one of my favorites for access, beautiful setting, historic architecture, and amenities.

An amazing spot. More well stocked than I expected. When we went, (6/22) the propane fridge wasn't working, but it wasn't a big deal for us. We kept the drinks in the ice cold creek and kept the rest in our cooler. Beautiful isolation.

We love the cabin! This is our 2nd time at deer creek. We came early in June and missed the horses. The woodpecker in the wall made the stay even more interesting!

Second time here. Compared to other forest service cabins, this one is well maintained with a shower (new shower head) propane heat lighting and fridge. As always I cleaned the glass on the wood stove. Greys River road is a well travelled thorofare. In dry weather the dust from the road hangs thick in the air.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
