It was a reservation mess. I booked 07/11-07/14/24. Made an adjustment on 07/05 and cancelled the first day 07/11, kept the rest of the days . The camp host gave my site away to a friend. That was uninspectable. Luckily there was another site open, but it was was a site that was very sunny. This made my trip not as enjoyable as it should have been. The host should have received up to date information, and not given my site away.

The general appearance is much better since the removal of slash from logging the beetle killed trees. Unfortunately, the removal of trees & shrubs leaves little privacy between adjoining campsites. The lake remains lovely in early season, although the fishing was very slow.

Awful camp site it was flooded no room to set up. Had to stay for 3 days. We walk through the mud the whole time. No refund available. Ruined our family reunion.

This place is amazing! So many options for activities: swimming, paddleboarding, fishing. Appreciated the camp host, he was so nice and willing to give suggestions on things to do and see (fishing and waterfalls). Bathrooms were very well kept.

We had a pleasant time. I was so impressed with the camp host. He took such good care of the facilities and kept everything very clean. My one concern was a pit bull dog (was not on a leash) attacked my grandson's dog that we had on a leash. The owner promised she would put it on its leash which she never did. Approximately 15 minutes later it attacked another dog. They left the beach this time with the pit bull on a leash, but the damage was already done. I realized pit bull's can be very gentle but this one certainly was not.

Camp sites were very clean. Camp host was almost nonexistent, however he did do a great job cleaning the outhouses which was greatly appreciated.

Overall beautiful campground and the reservoir is lovely. Definitely check out the trail that goes around the lake. It’s about 4.3 miles and not too difficult but very pretty. The only downsides are that most campsites are pretty much full sun now that they’ve logged the area, and the water that comes out of the pump is literally orange and tastes like metal. We ended up just filtering Creek water and it tasted much better. Bring your own water for sure and something to create shade.

I absolutely love Sage Hen, it's so beautiful and peaceful there. Some sites offer a good amount of shade and some are in the sun. I stayed in site 15 and it was perfect. Had a good amount of shade the entire day and easy to get in and out of. It would be best for a tent camper or someone with a small rv as the driveway isn't flat the whole way. Where the driveway changes color is where the grade happens. The darker part is slanted slightly uphill and the lighter part is straight and level. I motocamped here and there was a good level spot for my tent and plenty of room to park the bike. The restrooms were clean and well stocked with toilet paper. The water spiket was right across the road from my site making it very easy to get water to my site. I'll definitely be going back agian.

Don't go at the end of August. The water level is to low to enjoy. Our spot #11 at Sage Hen campground looked like they recently leveled all the trees around it. If it wasn't for the camp host allowing us to move to a different site we wouldn't have stayed. as it was we only stayed 2 nights instead of the 3 we reserved. The area doesn't look like it used to:(
@Stephanie78186 · Camped on Aug 26, 2022 at Campsite #6
Sagehen, as others have noted looks much different than before the trees were cut. Certainly in the campsites. I booked 006 for the weekend of august 26-28 because the picture online makes the spot look awesome and big! In reality there is nowhere to put a tent and is very small with terrible shade. As someone else noted, this website needs a big time update. It’s not fair for it to remain inaccurate. Our camp host was a rock star though and as soon as he saw us offered us spot 009. Plenty of room and shade! Thanks host guy! We had a great time! I wasn’t aware how low the water would be, I’ll plan differently for that next time. Loved going after school started, very peaceful weekend :)

The lake and views are great however some of the campsites are very narrow and many are in areas where trees are clear cut (because of a tree disease) with tree limbs and sticks spread around. Even burn spots where the forest service burned some of the smaller trees and major branches. Our reserved sites we’re horrible, so we moved to Hollywood campground (a first come fist served one). We found one site near the lake and one across the drive. A friend and I revisited this area after some 30 years finding camp site improvements with asphalt paved roads and site pads in the campground and a paved road around the lake. Also several camp sites have been added… it is a popular place. We fly fished for the better part of a day and a half in our pontoon boats and were disappointed… the fish were scarce.

Roads made it impossible to pull the trailer up there, yet we paid for a trailer spot. last week of May roads were washed out and over 2 feet of snow on parts of the dirt road.

Many cattle in the campsites. Their crap was everywhere. Smelled like a stockyard and had massive flies. The creeks and riparian areas were tore up. It drove my dogs nuts. Many campsites have had all trees removed with slash burn scars up to the campsites. Reserved four nights but departed after two. A massive bovine black bull in our campsite as we we were departing was a fairly nice guy but a bit much. The place is devastated and a poor choice. Will not be going back.

The campground just wasn't the same as it was several years ago. The forest service said come in and cut down several trees and also several cows wandering through the campsite.

This campground has been ruined by the logging to remove tussock moth infestation. There's no shade and most of the larger trees have been cut. No fault of the Forest Service but it's going to be decades before this campground is worth visiting again. Not to mention the low reservoir levels due to the drawdown for irrigation and the campground host allowing half a dozen kids to use the site as a four-wheeler race course (obnoxious), this stay was dreadful. Ended up moving to an entirely different campground and got lucky with an available site that hadn't been reserved. Do not stay here!

Didn't even start one night arrived at the camp site to find out most of the campground had been clear cut the year before. This needs to be stated on the reservation system and the pics need to be updated to show the very poor quality sites

A very misleading description of camp sites. Mine said it would accommodate up to 35 foot vehicles. I have a 30' 5th wheel, and the only way I could fit the trailer in was if I had helicopter to drop it in. The camp ground roads were so narrow there was was no way to maneuver into the site. After 30 to 45 minutes of attempting to get the trailer into space I just decided to forget it. I ended up down the road in a dry camp site and spent 5 days in the 3" deep dust and all the cows. I will be requesting a refund on my prepaid 5 day reservations. I will NEVER camp at Sage Hen again. The absolute worst experience I've ever had in 50 years of Idaho camping.

This was a great site, except for the cows. We weren’t aware of them prior to booking, and they were constantly in our site.

The campground is in an open range area -- and plenty of cattle meandered through our campground, and site - Including a large bull , who was quite chill, though! The lake/reservoir had receded enough that the boat docks were unusable (which really did not affect us, though). The reservoir/lake was in a pretty area, but, lots of fire fuel (i.e. trash limbs, trees, etc) were all over the place, It appears that they are trying to clear out some of the dead trees - burning them in large piles.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
