Nice campground. Nice pens. Decent amount of riding right out of camp. Only downfall is the water trough. Do not like all the animals sharing the same trough. Wish it was a spigot so I could fill my own bucket for my animals. The bees were bad in the campground, but not on the trails (late August). Had several regular campers, NO HORSES, show up late evening, set up camp and stay the evening after the FS had come through for the evening. Even though it clearly states you need horse to camp there.

This campground has beautiful trails and a small stream running next to the camping spot. The vault toilet is clean. There is zero cell service and the trailer to dump horse droppings are very far away from the camp sites. The sites are a bit wonky as the picnic tables in some sites are too close to the neighbors and gives a feeling of intruding in the other person’s space. The gravel roads to the camp ground are very rough and could serve people better if graded a bit.

We didn’t like the parking. It should be diagonal so you can open slide outs. Quiet Generators should be allowed for medical purposes when people have cpap machines or other medical needs. One of our fellow campers knocked on our trailer at 11:30 pm and made us shut it off. Although they had dogs off leash

The place was clean and very well taken care of. The camp host was very informative and was a pleasure to talk to.

Iron Creek horse camp is a picturesque setting. Sites newly redone. We road north to Mt Rushmore, east to Lake Lakota, south to French Creek horse camp. Could have taken Grizzly trail to Black Elk peak and came back on Norbeck.

Google Maps was not accurate with directions, but once we figured that out we made it! We only booked this site because all our normal places were booked solid (poor planning ahead on our part). Overall, not a bad site though!

Trail to Harney Peak, Grizzley Creek trail, was BLOCKED by blow down....we couldn't pass although we looked and cut limbs for 40 min. There is no one around to ask questions about the trails except other campers. the trail to Mt. Rushmore was good, except two of the "steps" near Rushmore being washed out and a "lead your horse down" situation. The Corral for site one is VERY Small, close quarters for 2 horses. The corrals have new rock in them but it rained and they turned to mush - the horses stood in wet muck for 4 days. - the trails we could ride had nice views.

Mt Rushmore is a must see ride from this location.

Enjoyed the seclusion of the camp, the bathrooms are very nice also. Would be nice if the trailer parking area was a little larger, and the picnic tables were movable. They are very nice and heavy.

We love this campground but we never saw a camp host the entire time we were there, and the manure removal system could be improved. First of all, the wheelbarrows are not maintained, the wheel fell off on the one as other campers were pushing it to dump, the other one was in bad shape. A sign needs to be put on the big bin where you dump so people shovel the manure to the front every time they dump. People don't shovel it to the front and it fills up such that you cannot push the wheelbarrow in to dump. Some people prior to our arrival dumped manure on the ground in front of the bin. My husband spent probably an hour shoveling manure so we could dump ours (we carry our own wheelbarrow, and we needed it at this campground!).

Very dirt out houses. Man shows once a week to clean but does not. Saw him twice and he did nothing.

The campground was well kept and with the small amount of sites felt very private! Trails out were excellent and we never ran out of places to ride.

Loved the campground. Beautiful place and convenient to Custer, Custer State Park and Mt Rushmore. Would go back. The camp sites were grassy. We had our own lawn.

The website accepted my senior pass and gave a discount. When I arrived at Iron Creek the vendor that manages the camp collected the discounted dollars and said this park does not accept discounts. Although it took the card # at time of reservation. That was a lot of money to a senior on fixed income.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
