We were pleasantly surprised with this cabin. We were expecting a much more "rough it" kind of situation but there were excellent electric heaters, lots of wood for the stove, cooking supplies (pots, pans, etc) and even a coffee pot! We loved our time at Muddy Guard.

Cabin was clean and equipped sufficient for a remote cabin rental. Range works nicely, oven does not as we were planning to use it for cinnamon rolls (didn't detract from our experience!). A moose in the willows near cabin. Pole Ck ski trails were skiable contrary to lack of snow around the cabin. Do like the looks of the Pole Ck Cabin...may try that sometime. USFS office staff person very personable.

It a nice place to have as a base, easy to get to other sights and places from the cabin.

I know there is not enough pictures of this cabin to do it justice, but this cabin is pretty big with two rooms one single room and two bunk beds. The bunk bedroom has plenty of room for the kids to play games or even set up a little tent. If you use GPS it will tell you to turn into the hill but there is a road that has a sign for muddy creek and also says parking. Then take a right at the fork. If there is any kind of snow you will get stuck so just use left side of to drive on. Cabin is clean with a fireplace frig and a sink (but now water make sure u bring water) and out house and little shed that has firewood cut up. I will definitely come back to this cabin soon :)

Just like Little House in the Prairie, but up on the mountain. Rustic, nice wood stove with electric heat back up. Newer pit toilets take away the ambiance of the old two holer but nice addition. Close to highway but off grid feeling

Been staying at Muddy Guard cabin since 2015 and have always had a great experience. The location is convenient and the cabin itself has everything you need unless you cannot live without indoor plumbing. Has a big deep sink with a drain, so just bring some large water containers with a spigot and you have a sink with water! The vault toilet is about as nice as it can be. 5 beds, stove/oven, microwave, coffee maker, fridge and now, hard wired room heaters! The fire pit is great and can easily be cooked upon. We will continue to stay here as long as are able.

everything was clean, the firewood was stocked and we all had a great time. This camping trip was very special as my dad (86) had not stayed in this cabin since he was 9yr old and to have hi children, grandchildren and great grandchildren there with him was such a blessing.

The road to access the cabin was buried under 6 inches of snow so it was inaccessible and i was out the money for the cabin and had to pay for accommodations elsewhere

This is such an amazing offer to the public - the cabin is well cared for and the amenities are outstanding. What a wonderful experience. This is the third time we have rented this cabin and each time I am impressed with the way the previous user has left the cabin, it is always clean, the site is clean, the bathroom is in top shape, overall this is one of the highlights of visitors for us. Thank You so much

This is a very special place and we felt fortunate to have experienced an absolutely wonderful five nights at the Muddy Guard. We spent a lot of time exploring nearby forest service roads and saw moose, elk and deer. We also spent a lot of time just enjoying the cabin and "yard." We very much appreciate the Forest Service keeping the cabin in such good shape for many to enjoy. It's a true gem. If only there weren't so many ATV's out there having fun.

This cabin is more of a home than rustic cabin! We stopped for one night on the way through Wyoming but loved it enough we will make a trip back. We were there over Memorial Day so there was a lot of campers in the surrounding area. There was some UTV traffic during the day but perfect in the evening and morning.

Wonderful place! Nice to have a cabin with electric heat, lights, a fridge, stove/oven and microwave. Also has a huge sink for cleaning but does not have running water. You have to call to get the combination but they will not give it to you if you are more than 72 hours out from your stay. I have Verizon & was able to get & send texts although delayed at times. Forest Service wants the fridge unplugged and doors open when leaving so close the doors and plug in as soon as you get there. People take very good care of this place. Nice supplies although I am glad I had brought paper towels. The mattress in the master was comfy. The room with the bunks was huge. That used to be a garage which is why it looks added on. I laughed when I saw the size of the dresser. Was this for the Brady Bunch? Nice pit toilet. Fairly new and clean. Good supply of wood but I prefer the electric heat. Less work although noisy. Chair by fireplace is pretty nasty. I would not even put stuff on it temporarily. Needs cushions replaced or reupholstered. It probably should be put in the bunk room as it blocks the wall heater and is in the way but I didn't want to rock the cabin. Nice views with a creek nearby and all kinds of different birds. If only I had 3 more seconds to take a photo of that bluebird! Downside are the roads nearby especially the one right by the cabin. I didn't have an issue with ATVs going by as others mentioned but I can see that is a big issue during warmer months. It would be a big downside if you are easily annoyed. Crazy Woman Canyon is closed right now which I was hoping to go down. Forest Service needs to update the photos to show what a wonderful cabin this is. The current grainy small photos do not do it justice! If you are trying to decide between this and Pole Creek cabin this is better for all the amenities at only $5 more. So surprising to get all these amenities for the price compared to other locations. Thanks Powder River Ranger District!

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
