First your website is wrong re the name of the surrounding peak. Squaw Peak was renamed Hirschey Peak in 2008. There are many things to love about this place. The setting and views are gorgeous. Since we last visited in 2017, a new outhouse has been built closer to the cabin. At our visit this year the ax was missing, the battery powered lamps were dead, the big cupboard that used to contain dishes and pots and pans was impossible to open. There was no sauce pan. The bin containing eating utensils had no lid and was covered with a plastic garbage sack! Unsanitary! The pads on the 2 beds were satisfactory but people should bring extra padding for more comfort, especially for the cots which have no padding. The last 6 miles of the road is extremely rocky, which takes your attention away from the occasional glimpses of wildlife. Finally, the weather can be unpredictable so bring appropriate clothing.

Weather was rainy but family had fun anyway. The cabin was well stocked and great for drying out wet clothes and kids,

Cabin was clean and well stocked, we go there every winter and it never disappoints.

Such a great cabin!! We did have to snowmobile in the full 12’ish miles but easy to find. There is one bunk and 2 cots. The mattress on the bunks is quite hard so a sleep pad is a good idea! There was a propane lantern that we didn’t use but someone had left behind a battery lantern that was awesome!! It takes double D batteries! The fireplace is small and the logs in the wood shed are quite long. We had to pick through the pile for the shorter pieces. We would definitely go back!!!

Would have loved to make it there. Snow last 2 miles is deep and hollow. Was really close but turned around for the well being of my kids and wife.

The good: Easy drive in good weather. One room cabin with bunk beds with ladder & a cot that can be pulled out. Wood stove. Propane light but you need to supply propane. Dining table with 2 backed wood chairs & one backed metal chair. A TV tray was also there. It has a skylight which was a first for us at a cabin. Recent maintenance work has been done on porch. Windows on sides are very low in height but have nice curtains. Lots of wood with fire pit. Somebody has supplied two wood log seats at fire pit with backs and curved cut outs for your butt. One had a foot stool attached and the other a beverage holder. What fun! Nice size porch. Metal picnic bench. AMAZING view of the lakes & mountains and you are right there! Perhaps the best out of 30 cabins we have rented. Bring your canoe, kayak of inflatable to go on the lake. As usual the Wisdom Ranger District has supplied emergency supplies and tools to use unlike other ranger districts. The bad: The cabin is in a campground & right between camping spots. We got lucky & nobody else was there except a couple of guys at the far end of the campground who we could not see or hear. Do not expect a quiet private cabin all the time. Many complaints about noise & smoke from the other campers, generators & such during the summer. The metal water hand pump had already been closed for winter. For some this is great but for emergencies or if you kind of work all the time there is limited cell service. About 7 miles before you get to the campground was the last 4 LTE service we had with Verizon. If you have a boat or if the lake is frozen you can get a couple of bars of 3G service on the big lake. If you take the trail behind the ranger cabin you can get it also at the far end at the edge of the large lake too. Sadly the price is being raised from $25 to $55 for 2023 so this is one of the last few affordable cheap getaways. BOOK NOW!

One of the best places to stay as i have stayed here before several times. We bring a canoe, easy to the water and 2 lakes to canoe around in. No motor boats for noise is nice.

Got to the cabin at about 2:45pm, unlocked it and checked out the inside. 1 set of bunks with pads and 2 cots just as described, wood stove, several pots and pans and utensils. Table, 2 chair and a folding chair, lantern, 2 cook stoves. There was actually 1 propane bottle and matches there as well. We only slept in the cabin as we were only there 1 night so planed food that did not need to be cooked. Took my Airedale as well, needless to say she was on high alert the entire time. She ever tried to climb a couple trees to get those "pesky" squirrels. There were only about 50 of them around the cabin site (hahahahaaa) but she kept them all at bay and chattering in the trees. View of the lake and mountain was of course stunning, fish rising in the lake, echo of Trixie's occasional yips at the squirrels across the lake. Very tranquil and quiet. Only thing we missed was the camp fire, with the fire danger so high I didn't dare have a fire this trip. We plan to go back next year for al least 3 day and I will take my pontoon boat to fish. I have added a few photos of the trip as well.

Stayed here 9/15-9/18. The cabin was nice enough. I would stay here again, but probably not if they raise the price from $25 to $55 per night. That’s a pretty steep increase. A hand pump well and put toilet are located about 50 yards from the cabin. Firewood and lantern were not provided as advertised. There was no Verizon service here, but we could get several LTE bars about 5 miles East and a mile or two south of Twin Lakes Rd on FR 945. The online listing doesn’t describe the parking situation. There is parking for one truck. Definitely not room nearby for a second vehicle or an ATV trailer if the other campsites are occupied. There’s ton of room for parking, but the entire campground has these concrete pillars everywhere limiting parking capacity. The people camping in trailers had to unhook their trailers because the parking stalls were not deep enough. The lake and campground are beautiful. Got some strong west wind gusts at times through the mountain pass. Campfire 3 - Camp chairs 0. Caught some nice little rainbows on the upper lake.

Cabin is a great little getaway, but assuming there is a lantern since one is listed was a mistake. Good thing we had head lamps, but didn’t allow for much indoor enjoyment. And whoever stayed before us didn’t clean up after themselves. But all in all it was a great trip

This cabin is amazing! The views alone are incredible and add a cute little cabin, paradise! The cabin is cozy and comfortable. The lake is so beautiful with the mountains in the background. Plenty to do in the area between hiking, water activities(non motorized), mountain biking and just relaxing. Cabin is in the campground area. The campground is amazing too! Quiet area and clean. (Please keep it that way, be respectful, pack-in and pack-out. Preserve our public lands.)

The Twin Lakes Cabin has an amazing view, and is 20’ from the water’s edge but is also very close to the other campsites. The fishing was mediocre, small cutties, the larger fish were clearly numerous but not rising for flies or interested in nymphs. The road to the lake is long and rough but you’re not going to get lost. I liked that the cabin had a skylight and big windows. There’s a bunk bed for two and modern cots for another two to sleep on. Rodents not a problem for us. Overall it’s a good cabin that needs a bit of work to be great.

This place is not for the faint hearted. It had mice, the weather was often foul, no cell signal, no water, dark interior, bring propane and water!

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
