Overall, it exceeded my expectations. Recent snow storm helped fill our snow craving. Signs at nearest trailhead noted that the wildlife management areas are closed during certain times of the year (winter), so look into that before you plan to hike.

Great cabin! Super comfortable to hang out in. Easy to get to. Had fun snowshoeing up the trail.

This is probably my 4th year coming here. Love it and this year it was even cleaner and better organized then in years past. There is still some chairs etc that should be tossed but it’s way better. However since the cost per night has been increased substantially I feel I can be more critical. The outhouse is a joke. It’s extremely old and we were there in January and it reeked! No lime or anything to subdue the odor. This just encourages people to defecate outside the outhouse. It’s disgusting and no one‘s gonna walk to the other one down the road so you should just put a nice one at the cabin. Either that, or don’t complain about the toilet paper that people leave here and there.

Cabin was in great shape, very clean. The wood stove is too small to adequately heat the entire cabin without the fireplace operable. Recommend up grading the wood stove.

Cabin was very clean on arrival. It has most everything you could possibly need.

A really fantastic spot that we’re lucky to have! Easy to access, and you’re near to a bunkhouse and a campground so you have company while still having privacy. A note that I looked high and low but couldn’t find the usual logbook and the refrigerator wasn’t working as best as I could tell. Just come prepared and understand that it’s a very well-maintained Forest Service cabin (that you play an important role in maintaining) and not an overpriced airbnb, and you’ll have a great time!

Stayed one night in all my 14 days and we couldn't even build a fire because the stove pipe leaked smoke so bad we had to open doors for an hour. I tried to cancel stay a few times but web site wouldn't let me and also chatted with your help line as well.

We had a hard time getting fire started in main cabin. Perhaps outlet pipe needs cleaning. Bunkhouse stove: Could not regulate the flue. otherwise, cabin is great.

Overall, the experience was excellent, despite temperatures falling below -5 deg F during the day (w/o wind chill). We had only one live mouse in the cabin ... I did not see it long enough to tell whether it was a deer mouse or a house mouse. Good amount of cobwebs on ceiling. The cabin BADLY needs a mop, to clean the floor. Why post signs about hantavirus danger, yet only provide straw brooms for cleaning? Although I understand the funding squeeze for USFS given increasing frequency and costs of firefighting, it somewhat saddens one to see the cost of a cabin rise to more than the cost of a hotel in rural MT($73./night). There were lots of fun games to play, as outside temperatures provided some danger to lungs. Someone (either a local landowner, or USFS) very kindly plowed the road after the fresh snow, which obviated our cautious approach of driving the truck out the night before the snow and skiing out the morning after the fresh snow. Cabin was VERY well stocked, with fridge, 4-burner stove + oven, electric lights, nice beds with pads, dishes and silverware, board games, puzzles, firewood, etc.

The cabin needs some repairs and expect to do some cleaning (inside and outside). The dogs “deposits” right by the front steps were a fun first site. All in all, it is a rustic experience that we enjoyed once we got it cleaned up.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
