Remote and beautiful!

The cabin is well equipped. Bring a few little propane bottles and food. Fortunately I had a spare mantle with me for the provided light, as one needed to be replaced. (small signal size). Wood stove will turn the cabin into a sauna if you let the fire run to hot, to long. First snow of the year while we were here and it was beautiful. Seen some deer and elk but no shooters.(Elk season just started 2 days prior).

A nice hideaway with spectacular views. Surrounding buildings, barn, etc make it even more quaint. The horses that pasture there and the rancher who handles them are a joy and he was a lot of fun to talk to.

We were at Wall Creek Cabin just a few days ago (mid July 2022). All other FS cabins I've been to (about 20) have that same concrete vault outhouse. Not this one. You get an old fashioned handmade outhouse. Even the seat and lid were homemade. It wasn't horrific inside but it was getting uh....full. And my gf found a garter snake in it. Nearest outhouse alternative is 6 miles of bumpy dirt road away. You also get a clear view of HWY287 from the cabin, BUT it is 3 miles away and you can't hear anything and lights don't shine on u either. It's just weird that you are otherwise really remote. You won't be alone. There's another cabin 200' away. Occupied by a legit cowboy (hat, 6 shooter, boots, etc). He's a nice guy though. I assume he's under contract with the FS to perform various duties in the area. You better like horses cuz four mostly just roam free in the 10 acre or so enclosure that the 2 cabins are in. They are curious and pretty friendly. Just use common sense around them. The cabin was fine. No issues at all and it was in good shape. The road in was bumpy but fine with the Subaru. Really any passenger car could make it. Beautiful weird country. Deer. Antelope and a coyote. Close to the Madison River. I give it only 4 stars because the outhouse situation almost ruined it for my gf. And if you want to fish, you have to travel 6 miles of road to the river. Otherwise it's a 5 star experience. One of the most unique cabin experiences I've had. The view was worth $1000 a night and interacting with the horses was really fun.

Road going in is a little rough so probably not best for low clearance vehicles. Great views and clean, well equipped cabin.

nice location - really enjoyed exploring Wall Creek WMA and the cow trail up behind the barn is great for a quick stroll. "Cabin" worked out fine - as usual need to bring most of your own cook ware and coffee pot (pretty sad assortment in the cabinet). The 1920-era pit toilet is still there in all it's glory, too bad Forest Service won't use all the $$ they have on the books to replace it. It's also strange that the historical ranger's house/station and barn are given free to the range permittee, which the cabin renters are relegated to the bunk house and pit toilet. Oh well. Still a nice stay

A functional cabin in a beautiful setting, perhaps more remote than some would like but we loved it.

The cabin is located on the border of the Wall Creek Wildlife management and the National Forest. This is a great location for seasonal hunting, hiking and close proximity to the Upper Madison River. It should be noted that there is no lock on the gate that is supposed to be reserved for registered guests of the Wall Creek Station. It is posted that the administration site is for guests that have reserved the cabin only. However, there were many pickup trucks parked outside the cabin daily and people walking up the drive and using the outhouse. The vehicle traffic could simply be resolved by adding a combination lock to the gate to the property which is my STRONG RECOMMENDATION.

This cabin was incredible. It’s extremely remote and very off grid, but we were equipped for camping so we had pretty much everything we needed. The kitchen was well equipped including a surprising and delightful amount of spices (!) to cook with. Firewood abundant and beds comfortable. The water source is a spigot next to a horse trough so you might want to bring a filtration rig if you don’t wanna be boiling pot after pot. It’s about an hour and 15 to west Yellowstone. You really are the only one out there for miles (except for cowboy Dave, who lives in the cabin next door). Stars are unparalleled. And the cabin’s log is truly a dang novel. Worth the read. 11/10 would stay again.

This is an absolutely adorable little cabin right next to some beautiful horses (if you enjoy them) and miles of gorgeous scenery. There's pots and pans to cook with, 2 bunk beds with no bedding, a butane lantern and stove, a table and chairs, plus a wood stove for warmth at night. It was the middle of July when we visited so we didn't need the wood stove, but it was lovely playing House on the Prairie in the tiny cabin with the long sagebrush plains and looming Montana mountains in all directions. Read the visitor book, it's a hoot. The ranger lives in the cabin across the way and tends to the horses, so even though you feel completely isolated, there's always someone you can reach out to if you really need to. Overall it was an amazing experience and we're so happy that the Forest Service hosts offbeat cabins like this one way out in the boonies.

Awesome cabin. Be sure and say hello to Cowboy Dave in the neighboring cabin. Don’t mess with his horses or lifestyle but be sure to have a conversation with him. He was the highlight of our stay.

Perfect weeknight getaway! The cabin was incredibly clean and easy to find. Saw a couple of hunters on the road but otherwise wonderfully isolated :)

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
