It was so beautiful there at the Flaming Gorge. Our family loved every minute of it. We found so many things to do, visitor centers, hiking and the water was perfect. The campsites and bathrooms were so clean, and plenty of space for tenting. We will definitely be back, for sure. Thankyou for such a wonderful time.

The camp host was OUTSTANDING : available, friendly, welcoming, knowledgeable - our biggest complaint is, really, with the website recreation.gov because we feel like the individual campsite descriptions are EXTREMELY misleading and VERY OFTEN totally incorrect : we make reservations six months in advance and we SPECIFICALLY reserve shaded sites as we flee the Texas summer heat - sadly, upon arrival, sites described as shaded are almost always in full sun - OUR SUGGESTION : update the website with true and accurate descriptions and include a photograph of each site taken at 3pm on a sunny day

VERY windy for tent camping which may explain why I was the only one in the tent area! Lots of room at the site I was at, plenty of pitching options. Some trees, mostly flat and grassy. Huge bonus is the Canyon Rim Trail adjacent to the campground, with stunning views and access for hikers, bikers and equestrians. Toilets nearest to my site were in dire need of some maintenance, barely tolerable to go into, and thankfully the wind was blowing the stench away from my site.

Very close to the canyon rim with outhouse and fresh water from scattered water stations.I enjoyed being close to nature and the beautiful surroundings.

This is a beautiful campground. We stayed in site 15 and it had very good shade for our camper. There are gorgeous lookouts over the river with an easy trail right there at the campground. Swimming access at the lake was about 15 minutes away at the dam.

Great and quiet campsite. Campsite 07 is approx 75 feet from the canyon overlook and the Canyon Rim Trail. Campsite has decent shade with a few trees providing some cover throughout the day. Would recommend campsite 08 or 09 if available as they are 50 ft from the canyon. Campground is only a mile away from Red Canyon Resort that has a restaurant and general market.

I reserved & paid for site #3 for the weekend prior to July 4th. Pictures show the table to be a short ways from parking spaces for 1-3 with a nice path (essential due to joint issues). On my arrival the other campers had parked their 2 vehicles nose to nose & straddled the parking spaces so that no one else could park there (with the exception of the legally designated physically handicapped space). I parked at the camp host location to wait for their help & called the Flaming Gorge district for help. They said they would text the camp host. Several hours later the cars remained parked blocking access to #3. I gave up waiting & found a first come first serve site. The camp host later found me, explained that she had poor cell service & came as soon as she could. She very kindly said I could keep the spot I had found. The next day a guy showed up that had reserved that spot. It took me a bit to get the camp host back on the phone. She eventually confirmed the spot had been reserved & directed me to find yet another spot or return to #3. I chose a closer site that no one had shown up for, but it turns out they were just late & got there shortly after I relocated to it. I told the camp host I would go back to #3 & that she would have to make sure I could park in the associated parking spot. In going back to my reserved & paid for site #3, the new campers that day had taken up the 3 spots with their massive boat in the handicapped spot & their very large F350s in the 2 remaining spots. The camp host eventually made them move the F350 in the spot next to site #3 & said, “They are real sorry they hurt your feelings.” I had not had any conversations with anyone about any hurt feelings & not sure how this rectified the place I reserved & paid for that was rendered inaccessible for me, the payee, by other campers on both dates. Sigh. Lessons learned. I will pay for & take up a full RV spot in the future. Tent campers, beware of this site.

Beautiful Campsite! 001 is surrounded by flowers and away from the road to be quiet at night. Canyon Rim campground is a short walk to the Flaming Gorge, while not being right on the edge.
@MichaelL540355 · Camped on Jun 5, 2023 at Campsite #15
Beautiful campground with large sites and a trail that runs right past. The campground could use one more outhouse. For some reason, the water was not turned on yet and we had to go to a neighboring campground to fetch some. That said, we would definitely camp here again.

Spacious campground with large sites, beware the site my handle big rigs, the turn around to get to them is to tight causing you to fight a pine tree at top of turn .

The Canyon Rim campground has several beautiful campsites and the canyon itself is spectacular, so a visit is well in order. However, the campground seems poorly maintained in some respects and the nearby visitor center has truncated hours compared to other NPS facilities. Observation points near the center are barricaded for safety upgrades but that will change over time. The must-see activity is the canyon rim trail that affords marvelous views deep into and far across the Flaming Gorge.

nice camp site. far enough from the street but not too far, some shade during the day but not that much. we had a few herds of rams visit and a 7 foot snake. very close to canyon rim hike and red canyon overlook

The campground and location were absolutely beautiful. Easy access to the Canyon Rim Trail to get to Red Canyon Overlook.

Very basic campground with clean pit toilets, water and trash disposal area. What jazzed us the most was the group of bighorn sheep that were in the campground everyday! Once just 20 feet from us... was a terrific experience. The short walk to the rim views were outstanding, visitors center was great. Would stay again!

I travel to different destinations in the U.S. at certain times of the year to enjoy the best weather. I love to go to Canyon Rim campground at Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area usually in mid-June. The temps during the day are usually up to 80 by then and the nights around 50. Perfect! The scent of the pines and the gentle breeze coming across Red Canyon is simply heaven for this Iowa native. The views from Canyon Rim of the Flaming Gorge reservoir below are simply fantastic. Watching the Red Tail hawks soar above the canyon walls and the Whistling Marmots sunbathing on rock outcroppings or a log is very relaxing and that is why I go there. This is a great place to relax and rejuvenate the spirit and the body. Along with the spectacular views from the canyon's edge, it is a complete thrill to see herds of Rocky Mountain Sheep running through the campground or just grazing peacefully with their offspring in tow. The more active camper can enjoy hiking, mountain biking, or horseback riding the Canyon Rim Trail. Guided horseback trips and bicycle rentals can be had at the nearby Red Canyon Lodge. I love to have eat an occasional meal there and to sit out on their deck and use the Wi-Fi. I have always found the campground hosts to be extremely friendly and helpful and, although you can usually find an open "first come first-served" site, I highly recommend that you reserve a site for your stay. I come all the way from Iowa to stay here and I would hate to arrive to find the campground full.

The campground manager was very helpful & informative about the area. We saw bighorn sheep 4 of the 5 days we were there, some times right in our camp. The rim overlook is great. We would drive around the area early mornings & evenings and saw mule deer. It is a in nature feel. There are no utility hookups, but the is water access & vaulted toilets.

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
