Nice clean campground with access to good hiking trails

Extremely loud being right next to the public trail and bathrooms. Bathrooms were disgusting and had zero toilet paper. If I had known the campsite was next to a public trail I would not have booked it.

It was not possible to go into the side with an 28 ft RV, because of a ditch between the road and the parking space. We can't stay there. Very nice surroundings.

Echo lake said you could paddle board but the signs at the lake said you cant. If you plan on going up Mt Blue Sky this is. A good place to stay. Other than that its not a good campground. People around were nice and respectful.

Love Echo Lake campground. The hosts this year had it immaculate! We've been coming here for decades and the campground and facilities have never looked better!

Camp ground is small. Water is hand pumped from a well. The pit toilets are not as good as other camp grounds. It is right beside the Mt Evans gate and Echo lake.

This was my first time at a Colorado campsite and I had a great experience! It was clean, the campsite was brushed, no trash and accessible bear proof dumpsters. I think all most every spot was full, but it didnt feel crowded, there was enough space between every site and everyone was very nice and would help you if you needed something, but also left you to your self so it felt calm and peaceful. But what really made it a great experience was the caretakers! They were absolutely lovely. They drive around on a little golf cart and answered any questions you would have. They had firewood for sale if you forgot some, and a place to fill up water if you were low. I was a solo girl camper, and they kept an eye on me, made sure I get safe and comfortable, and made a note when I returned safely from my hike. Really enjoyed my time at echo lake campsite!

The campground is a bit cramped which is why I gave it only 4 stars. The location was excellent and the campground host was a rock star amongst campground hosts. He made our stay totally enjoyable.

I arrived two days earlier before this reservation began. I met Darryl and Janet, Camp Hosts. My site was available, arrangements were made to occupy this site ahead of the July, 30 reservation date. The camp site was ready and was in superb condition, clean, ready for occupancy. Darryl and Janet were friendly, helpful, accommodating of requests to make my stay memorable. They regularly patrolled the entire facility, efficiently cleaned and prepared restroom facilities, making sure that toileting supplies were plentiful. I particularly appreciated they're stopping to chat, asking if they could help in any way. I had an issue with my vehicle, Darryl looked up the vehicle's information to assist if the condition could be resolved, while it couldn't the effort was greatly appreciated. Both Darryl and Janet always asked how I was doing with my bicycling and were supportive with reporting upcoming weather conditions to help me plan my daily adventures. Although my bicycling turned out to be more limited, due to weather and health, I will remember this trip in glowing terms. I love the Echo Lake facility and will recommend it to anyone who has camping interest.The road to the top of Mount Evans is a peak experience that should not be missed. Steady traffic on any day showed the power of this site. I met many campers, hikers, cyclists during my stay. Trails are clearly marked, ample parking is usually available. Cellphone use is limited due to the remote area. Sadly, the lodge at Echo Lake is currently not in use, is under planned improvement, there is only a food truck on that site. I hope the renewing project will be sped up as the Lodge had had a restaurant, rooms plus an excellent gift shop with helpful, friendly and knowledgeable staff. The general road conditions to the top of Mount Evans need work as the pavement is too bumpy in places, making a descent on a bicycle more hazardous than necessary. Campsite signs are clearly posted and are informative.

A beautiful but busy area but thats to be expected so close to Denver metro. A great base camp for exploring Mt. Evans and the lake is beautiful. Campsites were fairly close together for #s 1-4 - we will try for #5 and up next time to be further from the road to top of Mt Evans. Camp manager is very friendly, brought us wood and overall helpful and kind. Our family had a really nice experience!

Good valu for money. Keep in mind that restrooms are just OK and campsite is close to lots of foot traffic. Glad there was firewood bundles for sale, and free water from the pump.

The campground was very clean and well maintained. The campground host were incredibly helpful and kind. The site was gorgeous. It offered a lot of privacy while still feeling safe while camping alone with two kids. Hiking trails were close and lots of options for exploring.

I would recommend Colorado locals to book outside of the busy tourist summer. We had tourists walk on the campground and also check out what was in our food locker. Many people camp in the parking lot to see who left early.

The campsites themselves were very nice with a tent pad, table, fire ring, and even an extra bench. They’re in a wooded location. They are close together. The campground road is dirt and gravel. The pit toilets were on the worse side we've seen. The only water is from a well and it was murky. Firewood is for sell by the host for $9 per bundle.

Really nice spot! Super pretty, very easy to find. It is close to the road, so there's some traffic noise during the day, but otherwise not too bad. Also, the site says there's potable water, but it's kind of a weird color so I would recommend bringing your own water to drink. Bathrooms are well kept too. I should also add that the sites are a bit smaller than expected. It says there's room for 8 people in tents at a site. but that's pretty much impossible. We had two people sleep in their car and then could only fit one tent on the designated area- the rest set up tents around the site.

Nice campground.

Assigned spaces are pretty close together. If tent camping, recommend taking a tent-only spot. Great experience!

Campsite 003 - beautiful site in woods. Adjacent campsites are not close to this site. (Not like the very close sites in RMNP). Not rated "walk-in" but it was a little farther walk than typical, so if you want to be close to your car select one of their other sites. Echo Lake Lodge (old 2 story log building) is very scenic, a nice tourist shop, there are distant lake views and hummingbirds from some dining room windows. (No hotel rooms). Log frame restaurant closes at 5 pm or 6 pm. Bison chili extremely hot/spicy. (Public restroom in the Lodge is closed to the public. Porta potty outside and if you are a diner you can wash your hands in the dining room sink). Elev 10,500'. This is part way up on the Mt. Evans Scenic Byway 28 mile road (from Idaho Springs) which you can drive to the top of Mt. Evans, 14,130'.

There is NO water at this campground, plus the restrooms are shut down at the lodge restaurant next door. There are port-a-potties, but no place to wash hands at all. The campsites are very close together (much closer than they look on the map), but the views of the lake are great.
@TamelaH8028549 · Camped on Jul 12, 2022 at Campsite #14
This is a busy campground but is has been sadly neglected. The host does very little to keep the facilities clean. Outhouses were not cleaned daily although the toilet paper was always stocked. During the week we stayed the outhouses were not mopped nor the cans and seats cleaned. Very disappointed. Not what we experienced 4 years ago. Although there is a hand pump, it is very difficult to operate. The forest service has not maintained the road or ditches. The road is being washed out and is rough. To get into one site you have to cross an ever widening and deepening ditch. It could soon be a big problem. If they fixed the ditches, the water would run through the culverts and wouldn’t be destroying the road and campsite entrance. Note: For many campsites, the parking area is only a few feet from the parking area for the next site.

@BranJen - Santa Clara, CA

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
